The same could be said of those who bought 680's :)

I got 7970's, as when both are run at around 1150MHz the 7970 is faster.

Not to mention that the 7970's are cheaper. I know I'd rather spend my money on more than just GPU upgrades.

think yourselves lucky mine was over 800 inc post
but then i have had it a while now :)
plan was to find another secondhand when they got cheaper and crossfire drivers were working better with 7970 but its such a boring card to oc ~1150mhz with stock cooling and v and 1200 fairly stable with a little extra v then watercooling made no difference at all
so its a nice card for a low v air oc but its just boring on water im tempted to ditch it at the first opportunity

925 -1200 is boring? I'd say it's a pretty good overclock personally :P What else would you buy? The GTX 680 is even less fun to OC, and there isn't really any other option around.

I imagine its just because he is comparing it to his GTX480s, which went heaps further on water than air.

true i was spoiled by the gtx480 but then one of the reasons they did well on water was one of the reasons i wanted to get rid of them to they sucked a lot of juice especially when overclocked

they already have been dropping steadly every few weeks ($5-$19), dont hold your breath, if you want one, may as well get one now, they will only start to get significantly cheaper when the 8k series is closer to launch.

prices havent dropped at all in au since the official price drop was announced but they have dropped a bit in the us
when prices drop depends on our distributors and when our stores get new stock
as there isnt much competition amongst the few importing to au prices will probably drop slowly

yeah they have, PCCG first started selling them at 699-799, now the cheapest from them is $579 upto $669. MSY started at $689 and are all now under $595.
Small as the price drops are, they are still price drops.

there has been stores in au selling the 7970 for $569 before any official price drop was announced
the price drop we have seen is simply due to supply and demand with middle men makeing extra
if we were getting 7970 in au at rrp they would have been ~$550 at launch and they would be ~$480 now

You do get a nice drop in temps from water :) I admit I didn't get much higher clocks than stock cooling either, even at max voltage, I'd love another 200mv to play with... then I could have some fun. I see my gpu sitting at like 40c @ 30% OC and you just know it could do a lot more with more powah!
Price cuts have me considering a second, even though i barely need one. All I've been playing is LoL and WoW recently.

Yeah the price has stayed the same at MSY for quite abit now, Its been $569 for a few weeks from what I know, but when it does drop i wouldnt be surprised if it does go to about $480. Look at this present moment the 7970 is cheaper than the gtx 680 and soon (hopefully) to be alot more cheaper even though they are similiar cards so either way you are looking are two really nice gfx cards.

gtx 680 are for people who just want a fast STOCK graphics card.

7970 are for people who either want a fast card (that is not as fast as the gtx 680, in most cases, stock) or who want to OC which imo and well everyone who has tested it, is much much better than the gtx 680.

That's the major differences and if we see more of a price drop and nvidia dont follow suit, well again imo thats really a no brainer, like for me personally, paying $100+ for abit better stock performance isnt worth it. But again, this all comes down to personal preference, doesn't really matter as both are just unreal. =)

@p0is0n play HoN its much better than LoL haha ;P

if all mine needed was more power i would have installed all 3 vmods instead of just one then removing it
i was playing games with it at 1150mhz 1.1v but then it toped out at 1200mhz ~1.15-1.2v and goes no further
but yes it does run nice and cool peaking at 34c during stalker benchmark 1125mhz with 25c water temp

listed as order in at ijk
HIS 7970 3g $508
HIS 7970 ICEQ X2 TURBO 3GB 1050/5600 MHZ $567 at these clock speeds you get a stock card that will perform much the same as gtx680 when at 1080p

Just plumped for a HD 7970 Sapphire dual-fan. Pretty quiet, but I'm a tad disappointed in the overclocking, guess I had excessive expectations of ~1.25GHz but it doesn't seem to want to move past ~1.16GHz core, no matter how much voltage I apply. Seems happy with that 1.16GHz at 1.23v, but even 1.38v won't get the thing stable @ 1.2GHz.

Thanks man, that makes it better ;) I'm pretty sure if I play round with the voltage ~1.15 would be ok close to stock volts, but it just hits a wall after that. Have you tried pushing yours any further with extra voltage?

Interesting - seem my O/C may have been at stock volts anyway, Trixx seems to be ignoring my vcore (VDDC) settings. Will try Afterburner.

Price cuts have hit PCCG. Cheapest 7970 is a HIS @ $529 and it will only cost $10 extra for a Gigabyte or MSI with a 3 year warranty!

Staticice informs me that the cheapest one in the country is this HIS

7950s don't appear to have been cut yet at PCCG and are around $500 still. $454 is as cheap as I can find one on StaticIce this still seems slightly expensive to me.

Nah, unfortunately Afterburner doesn't seem to have voltage control on the Sapphire Dual-X 7970 yet, so I'm stuck at stock volts for now and that's as far as she'll go. 25% O/C isn't exactly bad, but I'd like to have a play with what the card is capable of.

prices are starting to look a bit more attractive for the 7970 now, still a fair hit to the wallet though.

I've read elsewhere that some 7970's hit an overclock ceiling that they just won't push through - i think Dasa might have had this problem after putting his under water. Hopefully some working voltage control comes out soon and w can see what these puppies can do.
