Raspberry Pi, bit of hype going on around this.
Wouldn't mind seeing an atomic review on this piece of kit if at all possible. The things you could do with that pint sized thing are endless. -------------------- Desktop: i7 950 @ 4.2GHz | HD6990 @ 1GHz | 6GB RAM | 120GB + 250GB SSDs | 2x 2TB HDD in RAID1

What would the scope be, considering the options are "endless"?

Interesting idea, but as asked, what would the angle be? Run it as a fileserver for a few external HDDs, or a lightweight webserver, or what? Just a network media player? And, personally, I don't really know much about Linux on ARM, and I'm not sure who we'd get to write such a piece.
I am looking at it and, forgive the newb question, how do you plug a monitor into it? From the FAQ (which took forever to load due to an incredibly large comments section):

'10 real world uses for Raspberry Pi' could be a good sort of article, its huge tech news, just because you don't have anyone that knows much about ARM and Linux doesn't mean you should miss such an opportunity! :P

I think at this point the hardest part is getting your hands on one.

I think at this point the hardest part is getting your hands on one. Yep, I've ordered 2 and I did it on the night of launch. Still going to be waiting another month or 2. Some people in the UK have received theirs though. QUOTE I am looking at it and, forgive the newb question, how do you plug a monitor into it? '10 real world uses for Raspberry Pi' could be a good sort of article, its huge tech news, just because you don't have anyone that knows much about ARM and Linux doesn't mean you should miss such an opportunity! :P Nice idea. I was thinking more along the lines of just what it's capable of. ie treat it like a system review. So how well does it play videos, does it do 3D at all. Just sort of benchmarky stuff. But having real world usage scenario analysis as Nuke suggests would be just as good too. The fact that you rattled off 3 things it could be used for shows what it's potential is. Small ROM emulator build PC in a keyboard or monitor mod All sorts of things. This is something Atomic should be all over imo. I think at this point the hardest part is getting your hands on one. heh, true. Should be ramping up soonish though Yep, I've ordered 2 and I did it on the night of launch. How are your going to use them when you get 'em? -------------------- Desktop: i7 950 @ 4.2GHz | HD6990 @ 1GHz | 6GB RAM | 120GB + 250GB SSDs | 2x 2TB HDD in RAID1

I've ordered 3 personally too.
Linux on ARM isn't that different to on x86/x64, just have to generally compile some things for yourself rather than rely on binaries. I'll be making one of mine into a set top box for IPTV streams, but also include USB/SMB connectivity options for streaming attached/network storage as well. Another will be given to a friend, he'll be doing some security penetration testing style things with his... not sure about my 3rd yet... maybe as a control system for some relays to monitor temperatures, humidity etc, and turn on/off devices such as irrigation systems etc. -------------------- afk

I've ordered 3 personally too. Going to be waiting a while with that whole 1-per-person thing for the initial batches. Yep, I've ordered 2 and I did it on the night of launch. From what I can tell, you'll get one by the end of June, and the other....er.....later-er. RS and Farnell/ele14 are being pretty vigilant about enforcing the 1-per-person rule. I heard of some sneaky buggers that ordered one for themselves, one for their wife, one for their dog, etc etc.
*shakes head* I accidentally ordered the wrong item on the element14 site at 4:02pm on launch day, so I had to ring them the next morning, cancel, and place a new order, so I doubt I'll see anything till June. :( This post has been edited by SquallStrife: Apr 24 2012, 04:23 PM -------------------- KEN SENT ME

I'd consider buying an issue if said review came to fruition.
