Hi guy's. I have just decided that it is about time i learn to code like a man. I am pretty good at coding in HTML and can build a website pretty easily but with HTML there is only so much you can do. So pretty much in the real world i am merely a scriptkiddy. Anyway i really would like to learn a new programming language fully and be able to write complicated scripts and codes. Initially i thought that java would be perfect but then i realised this probably isnt the best for beginners... So any suggestion, links or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Java is perfectly fine for beginners, as long as you're serious about learning it.

I think the main question is, what exactly do you plan on programming? HTML is a markup language, and that's a lot different to what you'll see in a programming language.

Why not learn languages that go along with HTML?

Something like CSS and Some Javascript would be perfect and very simple to learn imo.

There's a hundred different ways you can approach this. I'd recommend sites like http://www.codecademy.com and picking up JavaScript. It's not a great language, but it's really useful (especially as park of building apps on smart devices). Codecademy and the like help keep you on track and motivated. I have a semi-development background, but I smashed through the JavaScript course in less than a week (doesn't mean I'm any good at it, but I know enough to start learning more!).
