Saving window layouts...

Right, so odd question.

I LOVE workspaces. Seriously, I barely touch the mouse these days on my laptop, workspaces make life a breeze. What I want to be able to do however, is set up a few applications on a workspace, and save that layout.

For example: Have Polly (a twitter client) and Empathy messenger open on a workspace, sized appropriately so they are side-by-side. I want to save that layout and launch those two apps in that layout on a workspace at any point.

Is that possible?

FWIW: Running Ubuntu 12.04

Perhaps you should investigate a tiling window manager.
Tiling WM's like awsome or i3 might be just what floats your boat.

I do LOVE titling WM's, but I also LOVE Unity... can they play nice together?

I seriously doubt it. Though I simply don't know enough about Unity to give an informed opinion.
