Hi all,
Im thinking of getting an OCZ Agility 3 60gb as a cache drive for my 500GB Seagate HDD for a budget ssd upgrade. Since Ive got an ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 board, I can use Intel SRT Technology onboard. What do you guys think? This post has been edited by cohmoddersolo: May 25 2012, 07:48 PM |

i was going to say i would probably go with this instead Crucial 50GB Adrenaline SSD Cache - $129
http://www.scorptec.com.au/computer/45219-ct050m4ssc2bda but now that the agility 3 has dropped to $63 its hard to argue with that price you will probably need to reinstall windows to the 500g hdd with raid enabled on the controller if you havent already for srt to work where as a cache drive comes with dataplex software and just installs This post has been edited by Dasa: May 25 2012, 10:39 PM -------------------- 2600k@4.8GHz 1.38v - Z77-GENE - 2x4g 1600 8-9-8 - 7970 1150\7000MHz 1.15v - OCZ Synapse 120g Seagate 2tb - Seasonic XP1000 - Dell U2711 - Pioneer Todoroki 5.1

Though Id like to know more about the reliability of these drives as a cache drive. Are ssd's made for caching more reliable than non-caching drives? My HDD in device manager states that its 'Basic'. Does that means that RAID isnt enabled yet? This post has been edited by cohmoddersolo: May 25 2012, 10:50 PM |

the ocz synapse drives are specked as 64g and 128g ssd but you only get 30g and 60g of usable space due to over provisioning which improves performance a tad but mostly it is there for protection against ware and tare
so its possible it will ware out quicker but how quick? no idea dataplex software may or may not help to reduce the ware aswell im not sure but intel originally intended srt for use with slc nand flash which is far more write durable but far more expensive so we look to drives like the agility as a value option but possibly at the expense of long term reliability This post has been edited by Dasa: May 25 2012, 10:48 PM -------------------- 2600k@4.8GHz 1.38v - Z77-GENE - 2x4g 1600 8-9-8 - 7970 1150\7000MHz 1.15v - OCZ Synapse 120g Seagate 2tb - Seasonic XP1000 - Dell U2711 - Pioneer Todoroki 5.1

Cant seem to find any SLC SSD's, only MLC's except for Intel X25-E and OCZ Agility EX series. What does this means?

this is the kinda ssd intel has for caching its only 20g and it is ~$110+
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Intel-313...hing,14762.html it means there overly expensive so consumers dont bother with them This post has been edited by Dasa: May 25 2012, 11:38 PM -------------------- 2600k@4.8GHz 1.38v - Z77-GENE - 2x4g 1600 8-9-8 - 7970 1150\7000MHz 1.15v - OCZ Synapse 120g Seagate 2tb - Seasonic XP1000 - Dell U2711 - Pioneer Todoroki 5.1
