Full Version: Major update to Mechwarrior Living Legends is out!
Atomic 3.0 > The Bits > Gaming
Virtuoso
The eagerly anticipated Beat 0.4 of the Mechwarrior Living Legends mod is finally available for download.

For those unfamiliar with it, MWLL is a total mod of Crysis. Winner of the Mod of the Year last year, it is far and away the best multiplayer Mechwarrior game you'll ever play, featuring not only Mechs but also powerful tracked, hover, aerospace and VTOL units. In fact, calling it a 'mod' is significantly understates what the devs have achieved with this game - this mod has more depth than most commercial titles.

Key updates in v0.4:

  • now runs on Crysis Wars, which is on special today from Steam for <$4.
  • introduces "Terrain Control" game mode, in which the two teams captures hangers and other battlefield assets.
  • many new Mechs and other vehicles
  • lots of balances, bug fixes and tweaks

If you are going to get into the game, I suggest you buy Crysis Wars today, as most of the community will move to that platform for its superior netcode. The mod itself is a 2.2Gb download.

You might find the Mech controls a little complicated at first, and you'll likely get your metal arse handed to you in your first few matches, but hang in there. The community is helpful and the payoff in terms of huge tactical combined arms gameplay is worth it.

My top tips for new players:

  • go out as a member of a pack, not solo
  • turn your radar off (as it will give you away) and just use your eyes to start with, until you get used to tactical use
  • avoid Mechs with ACs and UAC weapons at first, as they require experience to be successful with
  • flank the enemy, rather than charge in head on
  • ask lots of questions

i cant find crysis wars on steam.

It's included as part of Crysis Warhead
Virtuoso
Right you are.

The price has just gone up to $11 apparently. Still worth it just to be able to play MWLL.

Crysis Maximum Edition (which includes the original Crysis, which was a better game) is $22 now.

Kommando
i'll grant you that, very well.
bushi
Remind me when Crysis Warhead is even cheaper on sale.

This looks really good. Jumping on it after the new year!

yeah it couldnt detect my crysis.exe when trying to install before :(
Kommando
fuck me drunk its taken 2 days to download crysis wars.

i could have pirated it and been playing already.
Kommando
oh fuck this torrent is bullshit. 2k/s down 30k/s up.

who has a full link to the crysis wars installer.

Edit: FYI the MWLL is a shitty torrent client, in your Steam\steamapps\common\crysis wars\Mods\mwll\Updates\MWLL.0.0.0-to-0.4.0\ folder there will be the torrent file.
whack that into your torrent app of choice for better control over leeching seeding peering.
2k/s with MWLL updater. 280k/s with utorrent.
Kommando
fuck this, now i have cdkey issues.

this is bullshit.
Virtuoso
The CD Key issue was EA's fault ... their installer put an incorrectly formated CD key into your registry.

You can fix it via the instructions here: http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/2011-01/s...-cd-key-issues/

I agree it was frustrating to fix. I got a new key from EA before I found out how I could have fixed it easier.

anyone keen to play some of this tonight? i recently bought Crysis wars and really want to give this ago, but servers are empty all the time feel free to hit me up if you wanna play tonight or anytime :D

Opy
I bought Crysis last year purely for this mod.
I was not disappointed. Well except for the lagging moments I get at home base.

MWLL is a fantastic game. Just don't hit that F key accidentally. Can be very annoying in a fire fight when you accidentally eject and lose all the head armor on your mech :)

Some maps are low gravity, so Jump Jets will get you a long long way. It's awesome.

A few of the guys at the lan the other night mentioned they wanted to play mechwarrior at the next lan
they hadnt heard of this mod for crysis before so ive pointed them in this direction
ive never played mechwarrior but would be keen for a bash at it so im thinking an all day lan kicking off early morning
just wondering a couple of things
how much setup time and if practice sesions are required
and if using a joystick is fine for this game(the guys said they preferred joysticks for the mech games)

How popular is this now? When I first played it back in Jan there weren't many aus servers or people playing. Is it different now?
