'Call of Duty' Sets Sights on a Fee - The Wall Street Journal

QUOTE
For players with a Microsoft Corp. Xbox 360 console, a Call of Duty Elite subscription will come on top of the $9.99 monthly fee they typically pay for Xbox Live

QUOTE
players will still be able to compete against each other online without subscribing to the service

"hyper-realistic combat-simulation game" - a good joke. They will have to step their act up imo if they think this will be viable.
Unlike others, i still have not played MW2 or Black Ops because of the whole 'no dedi servers' thing, i don't think i'll play this title either. I wonder what kind of limitations MW4 will have or now that ActiBlizzard have stepped in the deep end, how many other developers will follow suit?
I don't own an Xbox, but doesn't this breach TOS? Because you're already paying for 'live' and now there is an excess fee on top of that :S
Brock
Wouldn't breach TOS, they can do what they want!

But it is stupid.

I just don't understand this - As if Actiblizzard don't make enough money from game sales as it is, ffs.

Greedy cunt(s).
krispy89
At least it doesn't affect online multiplayer.

I just noticed the other MW3 thread, sorry about this.
Feel free to lock =]

Saw this coming a long time ago, the industry pretty much recognises that some titles for a once off payment are getting hundreds of hours played per (cd key/licence) making games like MWF games by far the cheapest or best value 'Dollar per Hour' game in the world to play. You can't expect a publisher to see that and not think they should be generating more income from this.
If anything I think it is a good thing as it probably wont be received well and this may lead to less people getting the game and MWF represents a billion dollar black hole in the gaming market every year that other companies can not compete with.

IF Black Ops has become the most pirated video game just about a month of release, MW3 will surely surpass it. Just 5 months before its official release and it's making a lot of buzz already.

hmm if they charge a fee it might become an alright game since only the serious players will keep playing it.

Serious players? Nothing wrong with a casual picking up the game every now and then. Or do you mean immature, foul mouthed assholes? because theres all manner of fuck heads on wow.

In any event I just see a lot more players migrating to Battlefield
