Considering the bad rep that GameDude has on this site, how effective do you think this advertising campaign will be?
smadge1
Nov 3 2008, 07:37 PM
it's advertising money for Atomic, who are we to complain?
to tell you the truth, I've never had an issue with Gamedude, but then again, I haven't had to return anything there either.

Gamedude dont have a bad rep. Their SERVICE department (refunds especially) have the bad rep. they're still known as the top 3 stores in Brisbane area. MSY, UMART, GAMEDUDE.
I personally dislike them because of their service, but people dont pay for service. MSY proves that. lol

well ones a store, and ones a department within a store.
Its like saying a member of a family has a bad name, so the whole family does. its not ALWAYS the case.

So hang on - What was the legal threat brought against Atomic back then?
I remember legal action being threatened - Was it due to the defamatory remarks against Gamedude? Wasnt just us - Massive changes happened over PCPP as well iirc

I thought the issue was the other way around, Gamedude used a user to promote the business against the terms and conditions of the site (whether it was intentional or not)

Negative. People were complaining about how shithouse Gamedude was with customer service in general, and she came in and threatened all and sundry with legal action.
Websites without any understanding or testicles about how such things could (and couldn't) be dealt with proceeded to censor their users from discussing the bad service they've received from that (or any other) company.
Things have obviously relaxed a lot since then, but it was absolutely disgraceful that users were unable to share their tales of woe with other users who were in the exact same market, potentially allowing further customers to be subjected to the shoddy service on offer.

smadge1: That came first I believe (The original reason Kath signed up) and Atomic handled that in its usually cool and calm manner and asked her to stop, which she did then hung around
iirc, I believe Kathleen took it upon herself to represent Gamedude and caused all the shit - What bugged me was I never heard an offical statement from Gamedude about their opinions on what went down - We just saw massive changes happening everywhere
They seemed to inclined to just sit back and let shit happen and fall around the place in their name and do nothing about it - Unless I am greatly mistaken, this is my problem with Gamedude and how they conduct and present themselves

It was less the chip on her shoulder about dealing/abusing customers - hell, the shit she carried on with paled in comparison to the shit i'd dish out to customers.
But the key difference was i ensured that the customer was well looked after if they were in the right. I distinctly recall her abusing people who were upset that they were unable to get anyone on the phone or replies to their emails over late orders or items that were supposedly in stock on the site that went to back ordered once the order was placed, and she'd essentially tell them stiff shit. iirc, i think she made comments to the effect that they were too busy with customers in store to bother dealing with people who are calling/emailing.
It was shit like that, a general disregard for all customers - not just the dickheads - that pissed a lot of people off. The fact that gamedude did nothing to distance themselves from her actions did nothing to help them with their shoddy rep.

With all due respect to Kathleen that's why she quit Gamedude, she got sick of the rep they had and she was constantly fielding shit for them and always ended up being the one in the firing line. Sometimes she brought it upon herself, but a lot of the time it was completely unwarranted.

I buy stuff from Gamedude.
Yes, their customer service isn't optimal, but they're cheap, so I see it as a balance.
Lots of other companies make similar tradeoffs.

bullshit dude - 90% of it was warranted by her dickhead behaviour.
After that episode people still gave her shit for the way she'd carry on and abuse people over any disagreement.

Well that's true but Kathleen was nothing special espcially since she didn't realy look like that anymore and it's not like I've never seen a naked chick.
But her arguments were far more rofl worthy than HH's.
Even though I'm relatively close to them these days (as opposed to when I lived in Melb) I still won't deal with Gamedude because of what happened back then.

i'm interested to find out exactly what you think the topic is in reference to? So far it looks like everything is pretty much on topic, wrt the bad blood between the atomic community and gamedude (which revolved almost entirely around Kathleen).

It's not in reference to 'trading' forum members for her, nor about her clothing promiscuity.

This is true. It was Kathleen's very attempts to justify the crap that Gamedude was pulling, which served to worsen the situation. This was not unique to the Atomic forums however - with Kathleen popping up and posting similar tripe in other forums and causing wailing and gnashing of teeth across multiple communities. Since it was here in Atomic however, which she posted her now infamous nekkid pics - the attention became even more intense. Some of those who hated her - hated her even more. Some who didn't took to admonishing those who spoke against her. And some blokes just got lumps in their trousers and got all weird and giggly.
The negativity and hostility that followed Kathleen (and predominantly the result of her own actions) also reflected on the business she purported to represent. Hence it is valid to discuss the actions of Kathleen in the context of the history of Gamedude.
