    AMD Drivers

OK... I have tried uninstalling the drivers fully (but not using a 3rd party app, but windows didn't know what the card was so as far as I can tell they were all out) and reinstalled, still crashing.. so today I disabled my asus Xonar DSX and that seems to of fixed it... so now to find out whats going on with that!

    AMD Drivers

windows 7 I can't even tell at this stage if its the AMD drivers... but so far its always been them... when I sent the card back I used my old nvidia 7800GT and the system ran sweet.. not a problem
  4. In Feb. I built a new PC and thought I would try an AMD graphics card for a change (long time user of nvidia), the price was good and specs better than nvidia at that price so I bought a HD7870, about a month ago it started playing up, games crashing and BSOD about once a day... so I sent the card back for repair, the shop tested it and said its fine (I believe them too) so I have been messing around with the drivers and it stopped crashing in games and no BSOD anymore, but now when its idle (always after I have gone to bed or work) the PC just fully crashes, screen wont turn on and system wont respond, I've tried catalyst 13.4, 13.6 and I'm just now installing 13.8 so my question is has anyone else had really bad problems with the catalyst drivers? any help on things to try to fix this? Cheers

    XBOX ONE

Now why is that relevant, well from what I've read it sounds like the Kinect has to be connected for the Xbox One to work. Now also take into consideration if there is a backdoor for the authorities what's to stop black hat hackers from finding those backdoors? Personally I'm not interested in either console, I'm just surprised no one on here is bothered by the fact the Kinect maybe recording what you do and say. Then there is also the claim going around that you can't share games with friends any more as you will be charge the full price to play the game you already own on another persons Xbox One. Which that seems to be bothering people also. I think that is people being paranoid... first off I couldn't find a Kinect terms of use document (or anything similar) and the closest i could find was their privacy policy here.. Kinect Privacy policy which states that they wont collect any identifiable data using kinect (except locally stored data that isn't shared with MS) also Kinect doesn't work when the 360 is off... now for the ultra paranoid the XBOne kinect runs in a low power state so you can use voice to turn the xbox on... but again.. I'm sure MS wont be listening in.. also MajorNelson said that kinect wont collect any data or be watching you sleep and really if you're that paranoid.. unplug it when you aren't using it and make a tin foil hat :P

it bugs me that people are focusing on "problems" that are small (in my mind)... I can understand that for some people that having to be online is a problem (like people in the US armed forces who don't have internet when deployed) but for the vast majority of people who live in countries where the xbox is sold and there is live there is internet and it is reasonably reliable, enough so that the xbox can check in once in a while... and also MS are still sorting this out... they have heard the upcry and are looking at ways to fix it.. hence all the we haven't set a policy yet comments from them... same goes for the resell of games.. and also people have not been able to resell steam or other similar online store games so why is this suddenly a problem?

Thats why most racing games on xbox use the triggers... you have a variable amount of throttle by how much you pull the trigger in, much more precise than the buttons </offtopic>

    XBOX ONE

there's the other thing I haven't seen talked about in here... launch date... MS said "around the world later this year" so that would be US, Japan, UK? and the rest of us get it next year like the 360?

I have a 60gig 360... most of that is taken up by game installs and that changes month to month as I play new games delete the old ones... I can't see a problem with 500gig if you don't try to keep everything on there indefinitely

wired had a set of photos of the unit during design and some of the inside, under the grill on top is a big heatsink with what looks like a 120mm fan on top... so judging by that the fan draws from the top..

    XBOX ONE

it will fit perfectly with most AV gear.. but for being stack-able... I would be worried about heat issues, the main fan draws from the top of the unit, it may be quieter and make less heat.. but would you put your gaming PC in a home entertainment unit, stacked under other things?

nice post not much bitching about how its ruining gaming! (if you don't like the features no ones forcing you to use them) a lot of misinformation out on the net.. also a lot of people going they didn't give info for games etc., that's for E3, E3 is for game info this thing is to show off the hardware and live etc the stuff that isn't gaming sounds awesome can't wait for more details...

    PC digital audio

I've been playing around with digital audio (through optical) with the built in realtek audio on my motherboard and found that windows doesn't know what the speaker setup is when using digital and so games default to stereo. Is this standard for all sound cards or do cards from companies like creative have a way round this? seems to me with this limited experience that PCs are better off using analog because software can better cope with it (like AAC 5.1 stays 5.1 but through digital you need software to convert it to DD or something else)
