    Burka Behind Glass

Is it yours to convert everyone else, or am I only allowed into the conversation if I agree with you? I'll tell you why Xen. I really like reason. I like things to have reason. That's why I'm wondering what is the reason for the burqa ban. Nobody has given me one yet. I've not tried to convert anyone, I've simply put my case forward and asked a few questions. If those quesions upset you, or you're unable to answer them, then perhaps it should be you examining why you're getting so angry, and why you need to go about insulting me for disagreeing with you.

Fine, you want to talk in a more broad context than parliament. So remind me of the reasons that the burqa is a security threat again?

So if your workplace is not run by Muslims, then how can you possibly argue that Muslims have stopped you from eating pork? There are plenty of companies that have decided not to have grog at Christmas parties, and it has nothing to do with Muslims, and everything to do with avoiding litigation on the basis of people's drunkenness. Have you asked why there will be no booze? Will you be attending the "alternate" Christmas party? Do you have any other examples of things that Muslims have stopped you doing, or made you do that you wouldn't otherwise?

OK, fair enough. But what is the actual REASON? Because that's what each and every one of you objecting to the burqa has failed to do - give an actually reason beyond "IT'S NOT FAIR!!!!" and "I DON'T LIKE IT!". You know, actual reason, with reasons. Are you fucking mentally incapable or just completely dense? Go back and read my post again and then perhaps a few more times i know its two whole sentences but i'm sure your capable of doing it. TL;DR Full face coverings are a security risk irregardless of who wears them and the reasons they wear them. I'm neither, but thanks for asking. Read the quote above. I said that if your objections to the burqa is on security grounds then that was fair enough. I then further asked you what the actual security reason is. So far you still haven't answered. If I say that marshmallows are a security risk, that doesn't make marshmallows a security risk. I'm asking you for actual reasons here. Nor have you answered whether your workplace is run by Muslims. Why is it a security risk? the same reason any face covering is a security risk, the inability to be able to ID the person behind the face covering. Please next time you go to the bank, head in with a ski mask and when they take issue with it ask why its an issue... I'm sure they can elaborate. No my work place as far as i know is not run by Muslims, we have i would say one of the most diverse range of ethnicity in clients though. How many armed robberies have been carried out by people in burqas? I'll give you the answer - zero. Zero at banks, zero at petrol stations, zero anywhere else in this country. If photo ID is required for a transaction then someone wearing a burqa is required to show their face. But this conversation isn't about banks. This conversation is in the context of the parliament burqa ban. That's what the OP is about. Nobody has sought entry into parliament wearing a burqa. But if they did, they would be subject to the same security screen as everyone else. The proposed "burqa ban" doesn't restrict people wearing burqas from entering parliament, it just puts them behind a glass screen with the children. So, remind me, how does that improve security? Their bombs won't penetrate glass or children? I'll ask again; how does the burqa itself, or the wearing thereof, represent an increased security threat?

I said that if your objection to the burqa is on security grounds then that's fair enough, I'm just curious as to what the actual security reason is. So far you still haven't answered. If I say that marshmallows are a security risk, that doesn't make marshmallows a security risk just because I said it. I'm asking you for actual reasons why the burqa is a security risk.

How many times have you had a Muslim ask you to stop eating pork? Tell us what you have to do now, or have had to stop doing because of Muslims. You too - you keep saying this. So tell us what you have to do now, or have had to stop doing because of Muslims? I have been advised to not eat pork products at a work place so i don't end up offending anyone. No one was specifically mentioned but we sure didn't have any people of jewish faith there. We were also told that there would not be any alcohol allowed there for the xmas party. Is your workplace run by Muslims? And if we're getting all outraged at religion "forcing" itself onto you, I take it that you boycotted the Christmas Party?

Who does? Which Muslims? What have you had to stop doing for Muslims? This is all a load of complete and utter bullshit. If I go to Auburn in Syndey, I can still go to the pub. Nobody tries to stop me entering. It's right there on the main street of Auburn. There are many more examples of this right across southwest Sydney. Please give some examples of the things you've had to stop doing, are no longer able to do, or have had to start doing because of Muslims. Better yet, why don't you guys get together and write up a list?

Apartheid is relevant, because segregating people is...... apartheid. a·part·heid (-pärtht, -ht) n. 1. An official policy of racial segregation formerly practiced in the Republic of South Africa, involving political, legal, and economic discrimination against nonwhites. 2. A policy or practice of separating or segregating groups. 3. The condition of being separated from others; segregation.

You should probably take your own advice.... .... nobody besides you has mentioned the Holocaust. OK, fair enough. But what is the actual REASON? Because that's what each and every one of you objecting to the burqa has failed to do - give an actually reason beyond "IT'S NOT FAIR!!!!" and "I DON'T LIKE IT!". You know, actual reason, with reasons. Is that seriosuly the best you can come up with? Muslims are taking over I tells ya! They have removed all of our rights like..... like..... like..... I have to take my helmet off at the servo! That's the best you can do? Let me tell you why you have to take your helmet off - because there have been countless robberies at service stations by people wearing...... wait for it...... MOTORBIKE HELMETS! Guess how many robberies there have been at servos by burqa clad women - ZERO. Stop trivialising hate.

Irony. Since we can and should discuss anything, why don't you and NightOwl tell us why Apartheid is OK. I have read your posts, and I have answered your questions, remember when you asked about whether I would want to wear the burqa? I asked you about Apartheid, which you still haven't answered. I'll ask you another question which I'm sure you won't answer either..... How does a glass wall protect someone's modesty? Anuway, it's goodbye from me.

Showing your slip there Captain Awesome. Debate is healthy and should never be nixed. Doesn't matter the subject. Really? Oh good! Let's debate the relative merits of female circumcision shall we? Or people's right to be paedophiles? Or how about the right to beat the fuck out of my dog, after all, it is MY dog, right? How about the right to have and keep slaves? Or, indeed, lets debate the historical claim to Sunni Arabs over the whole of the Middle East? And while we're at that, given that we can "debate anything" lets debate the historical accuracy of the Holocaust, after all, some people say that it didn't happen, surely they have a right to be heard? Why don't we debate whether science is real, or whether one plus really equals two, because, mathematics is subjective isn't it? Why don't we have a serious debate about Eugenics, and how black people are genetically, well, inferior? Shall I keep going? No. Not everything is up for debate. Best of all, why don't we debate apartheid?

That there is a debate on this at all just shows up some people's small mindedness and, frankly, their two plank stupidity.

Here's the thing with this whole "biurqa ban". It has done nothing for security excpet, arguably, make matters worse. ASIO and the AFP were not consulted before the ban. Now I would have thought that if burqas were such a security risk, you'd consult the two agencies responsible for security. But they didn't do that. As a matter of fact, during a press conference to introduce Andrew Colvin as the new AFP Commissioner, Tony Abbott was asked by the media about the ban. He said that people "shouldn't make mountains out of molehills", and then threw to Commissioner Colvin who stated tho the effect that police deal with these sorts of situations every day and that the burqa does not represent a security risk, but is simply a question of procedure. So we can drop pretence to this being a security issue, because neither ASIO nor the AFP thinks it is a security issue and, as already mentioned, the members of the Liberal Party responsible for this ban didn't bother to seek advice from those agencies. So they either think they know more than the security agencies, are so incompetent on security that they didn't think to consult the security agencies, or were dog whistling to xenophobic elements of the tabloid reading Australian electorate without having to make it official party policy. The net result of this has been to further alienate Australia's Muslim community. How is that a good security outcome? Oh, and if burqas are such a security risk that there is a need to segregate people on that basis.... why allow them into the parliament at all, and why put these security risks (terrorists!!!) with children?
