  2. Last time I voted Greens in the House of Reps, but I feel they've lost their way. I am voting for Flux first in the Senate followed by a few parties like the Australian Democrats and the Science party before listing Labor as number six. Why? Because I'm a moderate lefty with socialist views and a tendency towards Keynesian economics. As an aside, before the reforms to the senate ballot paper, I used to number every box below the line just so I could put Fred Nile's party last. If the changes had not been made, it would be One Nation in the penultimate position and Anning last.

    Had a spare few minutes

With laughter and tears and firmly felt rage We watched all the script kiddies coming of age. There might be less juvies coming to meet 'Cos now they're all old school, but still so damned leet I'm cringing at the term 'leet' in my old age

    Clive Palmer

I was listening to ABC radio this afternoon, and I heard a discussion regarding the views of people from the Parramatta area regarding Clive Palmer. The gist was that many people have seen his political ads, like the concepts depicted, but have no idea about Clive Palmer's history or the fact that he hasn't paid workers after his nickel mine collapse. They're also vague enough that they can't see past the promises he's making to realise what the consequences of delivering those promises would be. I find it horrifying that the slimy weasel might gain seats on the backs of the naive, uneducated and ill-informed. Anyone want to add to or detract from my concerns?

In theory yes, but I admit it would be hard to police and might not be feasible considering there are reasons a vendor might sell stock under price (eg. unsaleable or near expiry stock) other than to put someone else out of business. I would suggest that deeming whether a business is being truly anti-competitive is a job for bureaucracy and bureaucracy is rarely efficient.

I'll admit, I have no qualifications in business, and I am happy to be educated. Fair enough I understand the reasoning for an overdraft and I actually worked in accounts receivable for a small company once so I'm all too aware of what it's like to have a lot of money outstanding whilst owing similar amounts to others. It still stands that if the company is not making enough profit to pay their bills, then they can't afford an overdraft - which in effect is a perpetual loan. For the bank to be sure, then I would think they would need to see and scrutinise your accounts over time. As I said, if you got the overdraft because you could afford it, then all's OK in the end.

Not at all. Get the big businesses to share their tax responsibilities fairly and keep on top of anti-competitive laws which could enforce companies to not sell their products at cost or less in close proximity to smaller businesses. I know that goes completely against your laissez-faire beliefs. To be fair, I've never applied for an overdraft so I don't know everything involved. However, if you were able to get one then it was merely a PITA for you and just a first wold problem.

There needs to be a protocol, and if you're subject to the paperwork and red tape like everyone else, then that's just life.

Maybe you can, but how many can't? Yes - and there are a lot of small businesses who sell goods and food. Why do people do this? Generally because they can't afford not to save money where they can. They're not paid enough not to. Where do small businesses do better? In the rich end of town where people pay for convenience, quality, or something different. Pity about the rent that excludes most people from doing business is such areas. I note that a Woolies Metro has opened in Kirribilli. I wonder how long it will take for the mini supermarket and deli with expensive prices a few shops down to go under?

Considering how many people were given loans they could not afford, I'm not so shocked or upset that you can't get an overdraft without absolute proof you can pay it back if you used it. What is the biggest threat to small businesses? Big businesses. Big businesses who can get their goods at a fraction of the price and their taxes seriously subsidised so they can open more stores and bankrupt their smaller neighbours by selling their already cheaper stock underprice until the competition is crippled. Oh the joys of capitalism.

Well, how are we going to stop China investing in our land or build a bullet train? The other parties may do a crap job at delivering on their promises, but Clive's are just unfeasible.

    questions

I ignore questions when I feel my answers will just lead to more questions or it requires too much research for either my time or patience. Unless it's an educational assignment, of useful purpose, or I can answer off the top of my head, I tend to just let it go. I'm too burnt out to argue.

I only ever saw it on Rage, so I always knew it was Andy Prieboy. I didn't know he was from Wall of Voodoo until I posted this song though. Your turn Flip.
