Not sure why you think that. You're wrong but entitled to your opinion of course. As for there being nothing in the movie, while I take reviews with a grain of salt there are many that disagree with you. While I believe enjoyment of a movie is very much a taste thing where everybody is equally entitled to enjoy a movie, or not, I think there is enough evidence to support my PoV on the substance.

how crap is this government ?

Given that the term 'dual citizen' is not mentioned in the law he could be right ;)

Because when the law was written we were in no way as multi-cultural as we are now and Australian citizenship didn't exist. Most of the 'imported' population would have been British citizens at the time the law was written. Anyway, as Antony Green said, the constitutional issues involved are not entirely clear. I also think that in the none of the pollies in question are 'working for a foreign power', which is what the law was trying to prevent. Would their dual citizenship have had an impact on their election if it were public knowledge prior to the election? I doubt it. Anyway, we will soon get to see what the High Court decides and why...

I don't think it is that simple. For a start, only one of the politicians(Roberts) in doubt signed anything stating that they were a citizen of another country so the 'if you sign a contract' argument doesn't stack up. 'Ignorance is no excuse', is a legal principle that is relevant and will be taken into consideration by the High Court. I think it's important to look at the intent of the law. When this law was written it was in a very different time. In fact at the time Australian citizenship didn't exist. Some of the politicians in question, if they had been challenged at the time the law was written, would have been ok because being a British citizen would not have breached the law. This is a case where a change in one aspect of the law, the creation of Australian citizenship, has an unforseen knock on effect. So we need to ask the question, in today's multicultural Australia does it make sense to disqualify people from being politicians not because they deliberately signed up to become citizens of another country, but because that other country changed their laws to include them as citizens? We shall see.

More than you think is there, that is :). Both Blade Runner movies are about what people we accept and those we think of as 'beneath us'. That attitude is as old as time, with my tribe being better than your tribe, white better than black or asylum seeker worth less than everybody else. The story isn't new, but the time and place are. Even though the story isn't original, I don't think that means there is nothing to it.

Post your thoughts when you’ve seen it :) In folks I know there seem to be 2 camps emerging - those who yawned at the first and think the same of the second and those who loved the first and thin the second is great. Not surprising really :)

With Hans Zimmer as one of two composers used for the new movie the chances of it being how hum were pretty low. He does manage to keep some Vangelis-like aspects but is much more aggressive IMO. I found the line between sound effects and music to be blurred with much of Zimmer's stuff which I don't think is a bad thing. Oh, and if you have Spotify you can stream the score from the new movie right now.

The 'Final Cut' is probably my favourite, anything but the US cut :). When they remastered it for all the remakes they cleaned it up a lot so as long as it's not the original and it's on blu ray you'll be fine. I have the 5-disc blu ray set if you want to choose a specific version :)

Yeah, nah. :) There are snippets of music from the first movie inserted where appropriate(especially at one VERY appropriate moment!) and the new soundtrack builds on the original.

*** No spoilers *** Blade Runner 2049 opened yesterday (well here in Melbourne at least). Being a big fan of the original I was somewhat nervous about the sequel. Let's face it, sequels are more often than not a pale imitation of the original, and when the original is such an iconic movie, the risk is greater. Well thanks to Telstra cheap tickets, I went last night with the missus and I'm pleased to report that this sequel nails it. The balance between the old movie and the new is right, the cinematography is stunning and the sound is awesome. I enjoyed the story and thought the performances were strong and I'm especially glad they didn't lean too heavily on Harrison Ford. It's worthwhile seeing this on the biggest screen in your hemisphere, I saw it at Vmax which was great. For a taste you can view the trailers, official trailer 1, official trailer 2. Also, they released 3 shorts that cover some of what happened between the 1st Blade Runner and the second. Do you need to watch them before you see the movie? Not really, but they do add a little insight into some of the dialog in the movie and they don't in any way spoil the movie itself so I'd recommend viewing them before you see the movie. It's a little annoying that all 3 have the same intro and clips from the trailer, but you can skip past those. Short 1, Black Out 2022 (anime) Short 2, Nexus Dawn 2036 Short 3, Nowhere to Run 2048 Anyway, just go and see the movie :) Oh, and it is a long movie, something that took me by surprise. The running time is 163 minutes!

    What's on your mind?

Tigers v Crows. Though Tigers will be without their captain if the MRP holds its nerve. A couple of high hits during that game but the Tigers looked the hungrier for the entire match.

I guess we could all thank Hitler for reducing the population of the planet as well... :P More importantly, Roberts is on the way out it seems. https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2017/sep/22/malcolm-roberts-was-dual-british-and-australian-citizen-when-nominated-judge-rules
