STOP things opening in the foreground (Win7 x64)

Yeah, pisses me off. Especially on the off occasion that the letter I'm typing at the time of focus theft matches a command in the new window. Like, hitting space bar for "ok" when an error occurs and never getting a chance to read what the error was. I've found no known solution. Only a lot of people passing the buck onto apps, which doesn't quite make sense given apps run on Windows. No reason why Windows can't be programmed to say "no".

    Dry Aged Beef at home

I've done 24 hours uncovered on a cake rack, flipping once at 12 hours. The recommendation was 48 hours (Heston) but that took too much planning. You want it to suck the moisture out. You get more concentrated flavour and bacteria/mould don't like dry goods.

    No more Pron on Google

Yeah, my safe search settings had been changed yesterday (no option for off/moderate/strict) and subsequently I had to specifically search for porn terms even on the relaxed mode. Today they're back and safesearch 'off' brings up porn again.

    No more Pron on Google

The 'filtering' applies to ambiguous terms. 'fuck' for example. Specific terms like 'cumshot' still yield results. And for the ambiguous terms, adult content is still being indexed, just that users have to specifically ask for them. Add 'xxx' or 'porn' to a 'fuck' query for example and you'll get your fix. http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-57558795-...harder-to-find/ "We are not censoring any adult content, and want to show users exactly what they are looking for -- but we aim not to show sexually-explicit results unless a user is specifically searching for them. We use algorithms to select the most relevant results for a given query. If you're looking for adult content, you can find it without having to change the default setting -- you just may need to be more explicit in your query if your search terms are potentially ambiguous. The image search settings now work the same way as in Web search."

If only the cop has been a better shot.

Hand to hand should be a last resort. Police officers (innocent mothers/fathers/sons/daughters) already put themselves at elevated risk of death and injury to feed their family and protect their community. Dramatically increasing that risk for the safety of an offender is not an acceptable trade.

I'm sure there will be appropriate communication to all subscribers in due time, but what of subscriptions that don't require renewing? The current sub system is automatic credit card payments every 6 months. How long will that last?

    1. Further down lake lousise, sunset. 2. The Lake Louise chateau in the distance. 1. Waterfall in bad weather. Drisle and heavy cloud. Would have liked to come back in better weather. 2. Mountain goat shot with my 70-300 at 300mm - happy with the sharpness when I get the focus right. 1. Lake Maligne in Jasper National Park. Weather still shit, but HDR came out ok. 2. Magic Lake - drains via caves in winter, fills in summer. Would have likes this shot when it was higher level. 3. Pyramid island, lake and mountain. No HDR. I tried to cut back on it, but the sky is just to bright and uneven for a grad filter. This one was done post, as the filter i took was only 0.6? barely made a dent in the Canadian winter sky, and darkens the top of the trees. Things I've learnt: 1. Linear polariser is brilliant, and I should go into business making them. 2. Grad filters can be problematic with uneven horizons. 3. Need to do more single shot HDRing 4. 11-16 is brilliant, but gets cut off by filters at 11mm 5. My placement is much better. My full collection can be seen here in higher res: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1...mp;l=203e919adc I did this whole trip on one standard battery (800-900 shots), and about 1 32GB memory card (raw). Pretty happy with that, too.

Thanks to work, I'm blessed with an international trip or two each year where I can take time off. A couple of weeks back I got to goto Rochester, NY for a conference. I didn't have much time to take off, about 5 days, but I made the most of it by taking a hefty detour to Banff and Jasper National Parks nestled in the Canadian Rockies between Vancouver and Calgary. I also purchased a couple of lens for the trip, a Tokina 11-16 and Nikon 70-300 f4.? to go on my D7000. I took a pol. filter along with a grad filter too, for the first time. Below are a few of the shots I took. 1. Town of Canmore in the morning. Most of the town is behind me. Software grad filter added. 2. Trans Canada Highway heading under a wildlife overpass. The second shot is HDR of Moraine Lake (thanks to the sun), which is giving a nice 22 degree halo. Lens flare of the 11-16 is apparent. 1. Different view of Moraine Lake and 2. Looking away from the sun at Moraine Lake HDR shot of Lake Louise. All water shots taken with linear polariser, I should say. Some failure to clean filters comes back to haunt me.
