Advertising in video games - THOUGHTS?

I tried - I like helping people out - but your quiz is broken. The part that's supposed to give you green shapes around adverts did not display for me, and attempting to reload the page for another go just crashed the whole thing. You also have a non-fatal error with question formatting prior to the racing game clip. Not errors, as such, but... Two things: - It's clear by the second page that you're focussing (at least upto the point of the quiz where it crashed) on ad placement - ie: ads within the game world. However, there is also "in game" advertising, usually on mobile platforms, that very annoyingly pops up big and intrusive real-world ads over the top of your game, while you're playing it. It might be useful for you to clarify that somehow. - "2" as a viewpoint between "Agree" and "Disagree" is strange. It's not really confusing, but it's also not appropriate - or necessary. That should either be "Don't Care" or "Ambivalent", or you could happily leave off the label altogether. Feel free to PM with direct questions if you like, or let me know if you'd like me to take another shot at your test. Thank you for your time and effort, and feedback! I think the question you've had issues with does not work very well on mobile phones - this is the feedback I had when running my pilot test study. Best to do the survey on a tablet, laptop or desktop computer. The other 2 issues you've mentioned have been thought of when designing the survey, but thank you for addressing them. Appreciate your time! I tried - I like helping people out - but your quiz is broken. Yeah this is "real life" non intrusive advertising, it adds to the realism of the game. A sign on the bus as you play GTA, a bill board in Mirrors edge = ehh A giant popup in farmville that say's "What does Brawndo have that plants crave!?" makes me want to punch the dev in the throat. The survey really needs to cover more to get an actual though on advertising in games. Thank you for your time and effort. Unfortunately, there are lots of constraints when designing a survey as well as when conducting a piece of research. Therefore, only a limited area can be looked at one time as a narrower research focus produces clearer results. But you are right, there are definitely a lot more areas to explore in terms of advertising in games! I intend to explore as many as possible in future.
  2. Hello, I am a PhD student from RMIT University. As part of my PhD research, I am carrying out research that investigates consumer perceptions and attitudes towards advertising and the use of brands in video games. My supervisor is Prof Linda Brennan. Her contact details are on the front page of my survey (link below). This study is paid for by the Australian government and is intended to provide useful information and to contribute to a greater understanding of the relationships between the consumer (video game players in particular), brands and advertising. The research was approved by the Design and Social Context College Human Ethics Advisory Network as a sub-committee of the RMIT Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC): DSC CHEAN B Project 0000019688-10/15. Your participation is completely voluntary and any data you give will be anonymous. If you are 18 years old and above, I would very much appreciate your participation in this project which will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete online. To participate in this survey, please follow the link below: https://rmit.asia.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_8tPQSDzSo2de2Wx I would appreciate it if you could send this link to anyone who you know would be eligible to take part in this study. I truly appreciate your time and effort! Thanks! [This is NOT a commercially affiliated post, nor is it advertising. If you would like to know more about my research, please do not hesitate to contact me.]
