Who's up for some old school racing?

Ok... I'll have a yak to Sambo this week and see how we used to set up... will report back here in a few days with what I find. Alternatively we could jump onto the moreongames.com server and cut a few laps around Eastern Creek

I've set one up called 'Hairy'. Password is 'pass123' Might have to go back to the drawing board if that doesn't work... it's been a few years now.

Were you running dedicated servers or using the in game menu to create a new game? From memory 1shot and I just used the in game 'create' and 'join' options...

Shit mate, so that would be 1974 then? :-p Rebirth, you just need to make sure you have the latest version of rFactor (check the main site) and dl the 1972 mod I linked to in the op. The track is the 1960's version of Bathurst, but if you can't get that installed, we can race any of the bundled tracks as well. Sooo... are we on or not?
  5. Yes, a media report I read last night showed that the margin between sourcing of funds and the rates charged by the banks had actually widened over the last year. Ie. the argument the Banks are using about "increased costs of funds" is BS. It's kind of tangential to the thrust of this thread though. Right you are mate. My mind wanders often and far :-) I see no reason why Mr Norris couldn't have shelled out for the campaign himself given he's reportedly earning in the vicinity of $16M. A man who put that much money where his mouth his would earn my respect more than knowing it was a campaign paid for by the bank.

Thanks very much for the kind words Hawkeye. I'll take that as a big compliment from someone turning out such great minis (let the mutual love-in commence... *gags*). I painted up this Commissar for my best mate's birthday last year. He's just started to collect Imperial Guard and is keen on the mighty Catachans. I thought he'd have nothing like this in his army, but I tried to give him a heavily tanned look to suit his jungle doods!

Are there any other mods folks would be interested in racing? The F1-1991 and F1-1988 mods are crackers. Ahhh the dulcet tones of a Ferrari V12 roaring around the circuits of yore! The Renault Super-Clio mod is another ripper which is easy to drive, not too many set-up variables... a great category for close racing. The Renault Megane mod is also very polished. There is also mod called 'Historic Rally Cars' which is brilliant fun. Maybe we could download the 'Pikes Peak' mod and do a hotlap comp?
  8. I was listening to an ABC news radio finance report this morning which stated the Bank's margins had been increasing recently.

Don't worry about a spraygun slimdog. The only time I use spray is for the undercoat. I tend to use the Chaos Black or Skull White cans from the GW range, but as Hawkeye says, the Army Painter range is good as well. Don't forget the GW website as well. They have a lot of info tucked away on the site. This is a good place to start. More painting then... here's a Space Marine Scout Bike for another work colleague's desk ornament.

Glad to see you got the ffb dramas fixed. I was going to suggest you might need a reinstall to get things back to normal... but that is such an arse of a job I don't think anyone has the right to ask you to do it :-) I've played iRacing as well, and I agree with you that it's very good. Unfortunately the pricing is insane for anyone who can't spare a few nights a week playing. I disagree that every racing game feels disappointing after iRacing. That's just your inner fanboi coming to the surface :-p Even after playing iRacing I still thoroughly enjoy games like rfactor, LFS and GT-Legends. You also have to remember that rFactor is over 5yrs old now. rFactor2 should be one to watch, particularly if the modding community stays as active as the current lot. Sooo... will you be joining us for a game or not? You know you want to don't you? I'll see your iRacing bleating and raise you an XY GT-HO Falcon, a Charger and an XU1 Torana ;-)

Mate, I have some things to take care of before I go to bed, but if you're about tomorrow night we should have a crack.

Man! That XU1 gives away sooo much in the top end to the GTHO! In contrast, the Torana feels a lot more stable over the top of the mountain where the Falcon can swap ends easily through the corners with big elevation changes. The Charger is a good mix. Slightly less top end than the Falcon, but you can attack the top of the mountain more aggressively. If you are using the default setup, the gear ratios should be right (you can only adjust the final drive in any case). Try bumping the front springs up by 5 N/mm. Also try dropping the rear spring rate by 5 N/mm and lowering the rear tyre pressures by 5kpa. This should give you more neutral handling and better drive out of the corners. I can just sneak into the 2:37 bracket in the Charger but I'll be damned if I can get that XU1 down under 2:42!!!

Mate, I think it would be difficult to push these old clunkers much quicker. I just jumped on with the GTHO Falcon and did two 2:39.xx laps. I'm not the world's quickest driver, but I'd say that's a respectable time. I have all assists off but I don't think I'd go any quicker with them on. Best jump back in and have a crack in the Charger and the XU1. Ok... just fiddled with the tyre pressures and spring settings a bit and immediately felt more stable and my first flying lap was a mid 2:37.

Are you using the modern or old version of Bathurst?

That's a very good point Hawkeye. My daughter has taken to painting her Sisters of Battle by undercoating them white. This gives her a nice 'pure' looking pale blue when she paints them up. In fact, she uses a blue wash on a white undercoat to get the look she wants instead of a blue coat of paint. I have been toying with the idea of undercoating my Spectres Space Marines in orange, building hilights and then washing the bejeezus out of them to get the shadows and depth.
