    Cheap Replacement Card

7 weeks of only being able to play flash games has made me fairly desperate, so I've gone for the 7870. Hopefully it'll arrive tomorrow.

    Cheap Replacement Card

Yeah I see these are out now and not much more expensive that the 6970. Could be the way to go

    Cheap Replacement Card

Update! After 7 weeks I've just been told the distributor is not able to repair or replace the card so I have been issued a refund. Now I need to find a replacement card with my $399. Any suggestions for a similarly priced, similar performance card? I'm considering steering away from the 6970s now that I've been burnt, I might look at the GTX 570s.

    Cheap Replacement Card

Thanks for the heads up! Mine was a Gigabyte too. I never tested it for heat problems before it died because never had any issues. But one day while watching a YouTube video of all things it crashed hard and never came back, couldn't even boot with it.

lol, that would be nice! But no, thanks everyone I've just bought a $39 HD6450 to get me back up and running.

    Cheap Replacement Card

Unfortunately I don't have an on-board GPU, but this is feature I might take more seriously next time! I seem to have a talent for killing graphics cards. I agree, the cheapest ATI I can find seems to be the way to go.

    Cheap Replacement Card

I can live without playing games for a few weeks so this card is really only to get my PC running again. I guess I was more wondering if of the cheap cards (GT430, HD6450) there were any brands that are better or more reliable than the others or if they're all pretty much identical.
  8. My 6970 recently died and I've been quoted a few weeks for the warranty process to run its course (on top of the 2 weeks I've already waited). So now I'm looking at getting a bottom end graphics card to fill the void and I'm wondering if they're all the same? Any recommendations? I'm after anything around the $50 mark. It will probably only get used for a few weeks then just sit in a box as a spare.

    Dead Motherboards and RAID 0

No, it picks all that up automatically. Well at least the Intel RAID controller does, I can't speak for others but mine just plugged in and worked.

    Blue Screen Help

http://www.anandtech.com/show/4341/ocz-ver...e-ssds-reviewed I couldn't find any clues in the event log so I went ahead and updated the firmware to 2.09 on the Vertex 3 Max IOPS and reinstalled win 7. So far I haven't had another issue since. The issues reported on the OCZ forums sounded very similar to my own so I'm hopeful this update has solved the problem once and for all. Thanks to all for your input, especially Director, I reckon you saved me countless hours of pain with that link.

Another blue screen! STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x00000000000000003, 0xFFFFFA8012139840,0xFFFFFA8012139B20.0xFFFFF80002FCDF40) No mention of any files and pretty meaningless to me =/

    Blue Screen Help

Thanks all, I've now connected the SSD to the other SATA controller (Marvel?) and plugged a Samsung F3 into the old Intel port with the old SATA cable. If the F3 drops it shouldn't cause a BSOD and I'll have narrowed it down to the cable or the controller. If it happens again I'll take a snap of the blue screen but that link to the new Firmware sounds promising. If it happens again I might try the update but it's a shame I'll need to wipe and start again. Or maybe I should wait for a non stopgap solution so I don't have wipe twice!

    Here's the new machine's specs: Intel Core i7 2600K Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD4-B3 Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SSD Max IOPS (System Drive) Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB x 2 (RAID 1) Gigabyte Radeon HD6970 2GB Overclocked V2
  14. Hi all, Since building my new PC I've been getting occasional blue screen crashes and I'm trying to work out what causes it. I believe I've narrowed it down to either the motherboard or the SSD. The reason I think one of these is the culprit is that after the blue screen and on reboot the raid controller will not detect the SSD drive (which is the system drive) and fail to start. When I turn it off completely and restart all is normal again. Once, seconds before a blue screen I noticed the "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" console flash up a message saying Drive 0 has been removed which is the SSD. So I guess I need to work out if the SSD is being dropped because its fault or because the intel raid controller is faulty. The 2 other drives that are actually raided don't seem to have a problem, they are always detected even after a crash. Does anyone know any diagnostic tests I could run to help identify the problem? The only thing I've run is MemTest and that passed ok. And yeah I've tried jiggling the cables. I guess I could try plugging it into the other SATA controller?

    A reliable aussie site

I just bought all the parts for my newest PC from PC Case Gear, they were by far the cheapest and shipping cost was more than reasonable to NSW (Newcastle). The credit card surcharge sucks, but if you add it on then they're basically the same price as other stores so it's nice to have the option of paying by bank transfer and saving 2%. Haven't had to return anything to PCG so can't comment on that yet, but my SSD is acting funny so if I have to return it I'll post my experience. My last computer I bought through Umart Milton and IJK (3 years ago), both seemed good. I had faulty RAM from Umart and they replaced it quickly. I would have used them again if PCG weren't cheaper.
