    The coronavirus conspiracy

I pulled over to make a phone call this morning. As it happened on a local hospital campus as it was the most convenient. A high roof van was parked in front of me. Pretty much full of dunny paper, pink sanitizer bottles and assorted other associated products. The guy had gone into the building and just left the barn doors wide open on the van. So tempting. That aside last time I saw TP in the wild was around lunchtime about a week ago over the border. And looked in 2 or 3 of the majors in the vicinity and saw nothing on the shelves. Last personal purchase was a 3 pack of the absorbent kitchen paper about a week ago. Supposedly it's getting better and you just have to get in early to buy it. Might give that a shot on Monday. I think I'm under 15 rolls but alarm bells not ringing yet. In other news, I bought some own brand Coles Ibuprofen from a different outlet today... at the normal $1.55 price, not the $5.90 the local was asking for the other day.
  2. Cybersex might become a thing again. Or VR sex. It seems some industries will be crashing but others will be soaring.

The trend now though does seem that the junk food is becoming short and perishable proper meat and veg fairing a bit better. And price gouge again - 5 bucks at Coles for Cadbury ~ 190 gram bars that normally go for little more than 3 bucks. FB - if the isolation thing becomes real and prolonged then I've got that connection method.

Not seeing the point. In my recent visits the shops are barely worth entering by dinnertime. Chemist - well, I tried to get another repeat of my regular medicines but not allowed unless signed off by a doctor before about 8/4. The logic there being that I'd rather stock up a bit than go in a month later when the joint's full of sick people. In other WTF News, I've officially succumbed and joined FB. *groan The spooky bit though... me thinking they have/had seemingly no information at all about me - used my ISP email account which is fairly private and just gave my name but not phone number. Suggested friends list had probably 10+ family/people I know and another 10+ loosely associated people.

    Problems with the 737MAX ?

Domestic demand might take most of them seeing as Trump thinks the worst is over there and wants everything back to normal within a week.

That might not fall under the category, or might be in the top tier of urgent procedures.

Forgot to mention. Driving home earlier saw a sign outside a house "Honk to wish a 9 year old a Happy Birthday". I was a bit slow to act but did so.

That's the worry. As an example I've been filling up with petrol every couple of days and usually there's no paper and maybe 1 place had some hand cleaner. Then there's the thousand incidentals a day you just don't notice like door handles, grab rails etc etc.

Not a build video but, what they do outside the shed - which is the reason they're inside the shed so much. AKA a bit of motorsport.

    Project Binky

Rather than let it get lost in the 'What did you watch lately?' thread, this is deserving of it's own topic. Project Binky - ongoing project by Bad Obsession Motorsport to transfer the running gear from a Celica GT-Four into a classic Mini. Huge thanks to Outcast Aussie for bringing this series to our attention to begin with. Episode 13 is out now! And while you're at it, if you like cars, building cars, modding cars, whatever - just add their channel to your account: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHvBHWBzzB7NyU5tIiEZHBg I've got the latest ep downloading now in 720p to go with the remainder of the collection. At 20+ minutes apiece, definately worth playing on the big TV. To download YouTube videos can be a hit/miss affair at times. Currently my best solution is a Firefox extension called "Download YouTube Videos as MP4", it puts a download button on each video's page which gives drop down options to save in whatever resolutions are available. Another method is to visit a site that does the work for you, in my bookmarks are two which work sometimes but more often just don't: VideoGrabby: Youtube Downloader YouTube Downloader Today's plan for me - watch ep 12 to get back up to speed then watch the new one (I've watched the entire series twice already). Then come back later with comments. Also, the guys were at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed. There's numerous videos around for each year's event, though I don't know if they get any mentions.

Price gouging cunts at Coles. Grabbed 2 packs of their generic Ibuprofen to get my stocks up as my teeth are shit (had one pulled today) and not the regular $1.70 or so but $5.90 for a pack. Almost as much as the Nurofen which in itself is an ongoing joke. I was at self-serve so called her over and said to take them back. Woolworths still at the normal price so grabbed 2 there. Overheard at the dentist - they might have to close down within a month as supplies are getting low. And I was told if I have complications that need services of an oral surgeon, they're off. In fact it was announced all elective surgery at hospitals except top priority ones are suspended.

I've not looked at the site that has the graphical representation of the world for a while but India seems to be either handling it really well or just plain underreporting. Locally I've noticed the beggar population at a few of the local shopping centres has jumped. Though for a while here we've had the problem of professional beggars - sit there all day panhandling then jump into their $15,000 car (and confirmed by a local shop's FB page). I find it hard to find pity for most of them. How can you be poor yet sit there smoking all day? Part of the reason I gave it up... it was costing almost as much as the rent!

2 weeks I assume means the curve and the isolation measures. We have the theoreticall advantage of lowest population density in the world. But the reality is we're practically the most urbanised place in the world too so it makes SFA difference for the 83% or whatever it is who live in cities > 15,000 people. Slightly OT, have people seen the pathetic bad taste "April Sun in Cuba" ads that CommBank have on TV spruiking the scheme for a year interest free on mortgages when a family member dies?

The next level of restrictions come in midnight tomorrow. I won't bother posting them, people should be able to watch TV or browse their local news website to get the report.

They say we're about 2 weeks behind the UK. May as well say here that Sydney is ahead of the rest, then followed by big country towns then little ones. And the stats are probably 8-10 days at least behind reality anywhere. Supposedly a state+fed cabinet meeting tonight, I suspect a whole bunch more shutdowns by the end of the week. In anticipation I grabbed a few things from Woolworths. Was hoping for 2 30 packs of Pepsi Max but it seems I got the last one. The only meat in the open freezer section was a couple of trays of chicken offal cuts. But the closed freezer section not so bad, got a bag of chips and frozen NZ Hoki pack. Probably a good idea they're closing at 8pm now, sort of a waste of time even 20 minutes ago.

Forgot to mention - a grog shop had a security guard hovering just outside (inside a suburban mall). Maybe to stop the kiddies... or maybe to cater for the ones who've decided to go 24/7 pissed and get stroppy when refused service.

Yeah... I was offered a 1 & 2 but took the usual 2 & 3 side/top. For some reason makes SFA difference, I need another one 4 weeks after regardless of initial length. If it comes to the worst I've got clippers here. Bad hair days don't matter much anyway if you're not going anywhere.

I'd like to do remote but for the variety of stuff I deal with it'd not cover much. I got a laptop working for someone the other day and there's the possibility her hubbie's business might want a couple of excess Macbook Pros I have. Then she asks about monitors, I reply the only real "spare" I've got is this crappy old big 4:3 thing and just suggest OfficeWorks. She replies they're just about sold out, so it would seem the work from home craze will likely cause an IT product shortage.

Still plenty of wankers like that. Half the problem is plenrt of people just think it's another variant of the flu. I knocked back a work opportunity today. IMO would have involved too much interaction. Then realise as well - if I take someone else's computer into my posession then that's a potential for infection inside my own living space. So for now I think I'll stick to the quick and fast ones.

MyGov worked for me earlier albeit a bit sluggish. I had a little work then some spare time so drove to Goulburn for a quick look around and cheaper petrol ~ $1.22. The queue to C'Link was out the door and 50+ metres down the main street strip-mall. They had traffic cones+tape to keep normal pedestrians away and amusingly a gap every 10m or so where a shop door was. And that's a town of ~ 25,000 people where a fair proportion are probably in industries that wouldn't be shutting down. Had a haircut today and overheard someone saying the Asians are buying up all the potting mix. Sort of useless in Canberra, everything will stop growing in about 5 weeks. Maybe they're planning to get some grow lights and do it indoors. I heard a rumour that a bloke got pulled over crossing the border Queanbeyan into Canberra and asked where he was going. I suspect that's utter bullshit - saw all of maybe 2 or 3 cop cars in the 180 km journey Goulburn and back. Though it seems to me the rest of the country has decided they don't want NSW residents coming in. Most OS arrivals come through Sydney so it seems the logical explanation of why the figures are so bad there.
