    The coronavirus conspiracy

The aftermath of the bushfires is reconstruction and repair so the big picture is a sort of economic boom. At the moment here it's supply not meeting demand for shopping. I stopped in around 7pm for supplies and the amount of cars parked was somewhat higher than normal. What's pissing me off though is the shortage of everyday stuff. The meat section was almost bare at Coles. About the only thing not affected is the junk food.

In theory you could get a mod where the accelerator is put on the left though how necessary? Or even a stalk on the steering column for throttle. What I've found when doing left foot braking is it's real hard to do it in fine increments though in general usage you only really do it in an auto when doing precise reversing or 3-point turns.

A rush on commodities and consumable groceries maybe? All the muppets, you know, the ones that use shopping trolleys as mobility aids they don't actually need, have nothing better to do than empty the shelves and hoard stuff they'll probably end up chucking out.

Fresh brocolli is another, though probably more due to the fires. There's state gov advice saying to keep 2 weeks food. The reason is in case you have to isolate if sick, but people seem to be thinking everything's going to be stopped being produced. Morons.

I dropped into the local Aldi on the way home with plan to grab a lasagne. The meat based produce in the freezer section was almost non-existent. It's all 1 week perishable unless you freeze it, so NFI what's going on there.

Don't spread it but the bleach is actually something worth stashing... if the water goes to shit you use a capful or just under per litre to kill the nasties.

Found it https://metro.co.uk/2020/03/13/please-dont-masturbate-hand-sanitiser-12393761/ Was one of those jobs where you get some referral from a reputable site and before you know it you're at tabloid central.

Must be a slow news week. Some site I was on had 2 articles on hand sanitizer - one on how to homebrew it, and the other was about the dangers of using it for masturbation.

Hospitals have become in vogue since bulk-billing doesn't take place at lots of GPs, as well as the fact some are appointment only, usually on a 2-3 day lag.

And can't some learn to cough or sneeze at a civilized level, like yeah it's really necessary to do it at 110 dB just so everyone knows you've got an ailment.

AFAIK I've not lost anything. Session cookies got wiped so had to re login to the several sites that needed it. So no drama aside from the annoyance of doing the restore etc.

    What's on your mind?

OK, so that's strange. Work machine has a similar extensions setup though a little lighter but version 73.0.1 like this one. Did a backup of local/roaming FF profiles and an export of the TreeStyleTabs setup then performed the update. And it verks!@#%! The only thing I noticed is that it enabled the "cycle through tabs in recently used order" option which I don't use as it puts the preview up. So either something else is causing it to break here or I just received a dud update.

I've got similar setup on my work machine so might give it a shot later - with relevant backup performed first.

    What's on your mind?

The Windows update isn't really relevant, but was convenient for me as it created the restore point that I could roll back to. Every chance it might just be changes that affect an extension or two that I'm running and not other installs. But it seemed to screw up the style to the point where all my tabs inherited a dark colour so weren't visible. The release is only days old so I guess I'll just wait and see if any complaints appear about the update and my extension. The not being able to roll back and keep using the same profile is a problem, suppose it must be a recent thing too. So now I'll be backing up the profile before allowing any update.

    What's on your mind?

Caution: Firefox 74.0. I just allowed the update through and it fucked me over and NFI why. My TreeStyle Tabs extension stopped rendering properly and the tab bar was blank. So, download and install 73.0 and guess what? They no longer allow you to roll back and use the existing profile which means you lose all your settings, bookmarks, extensions and themes. Fucking great! Luckily a Windows Update had just gone through minutes before that created a restore point which acted as a saviour. I don't allow FF auto updates but usually just click the notification through and have had little drama since Quantum came out a while back... except for this shit.

The bludgers were in full force way back when. Had a neighbour when I was a kid who pulled the "oh, my beck" scam. Walking stick in the front yard, pushing the lawnmower without much trouble in the back yard. The difference is in those days the government didn't seem to worry about splashing the welfare money around as much as now.

What Did You Watch Lately ?

Black Mesa (Half Life reimaged) wass finally released earlier in the month. I've played the prelim version through a good number of times but the big wait was mainly for the offworld levels which have been remade fairly comprehensively. A review, though not very thorough...

Probably because too many people use it as a rort. It's a short term alternative to the disability pension and intended for recuperating from injuries etc but very much open to abuse and no shortage of doctors out there willing to write out 3 month certificates.

I used to have an oil filled - they're OK to take the nip off the cold and are best in a not too big enclosed area. But if you open a door and allow a cold blast in you're back to square one. Something I need to look at is the computer - I just leave it on all the time although it only uses about 65 Watts idle including the monitor but that adds up to probably 50 cents a day considering busier time - and I generally turn the monitor on and leave it on all day too whether I'm here or not. I'm sort of tempted to use my Win8 Pendo tablet as a torrent box, then the main machine can just be shut down when I'm not here.

    What's on your mind?

Yeah, it used to be that you'd pay a fraction for off-peak which was great for hot water with the dedicated element. But now it's smart meters and they just skew all the rates so you get ripped off in the peak 4-5 hours of the day and don't save much during quiet times. Additional to that, the more people who use off-peak turns it into a normal period anyway with the rate hike to match. It was being said a few days ago that we should be in for some price drops in the next year or two but I'll believe it if I see it. I guess at least being in the ACT we did have some good rates negotiated for a while but my bill has jumped from an average of about $320 a quarter by a hundred and this year a bit more.

    What's on your mind?

The saving aspect is that you charge using off-peak then use some of the energy during peak time which also lightens the load on the grid (and assuming by breakfast time most solar panels are producing something). On paper sounds great but the reality, like I said - False economy in a big way.

    What's on your mind?

Reminds me... the latest brilliant idea is to use electric car's batteries in home situations to supplement power during peak periods and "save money". I should think not - like any battery they have a finite number of charge/discharge cycles until they die and saving a few bucks a week at the expense of probably halving the car battery life?

I'm surprised we actually have storage here for 54 days, I'd have thought it might have been more like 30. But still the sad fact is we have no refineries. So any war situation would see us screwed.

Some nice classic racers in this one, ranging from late 60s to the 80s. He has an off around the 5m 20s mark due to trying to avoid a shunt. But check the acceleration once he's onto Mountain Straight.

    What's on your mind?

24-30 for the next week and the humidity to go with it... no thanks. Best weather of the year coming up here... mid 20s days and 10-15 at nights. Except... there's probably only 2 weeks worth of swimming weather left. The local pool closes on Tuesday. Last year my last river swim was 5 minutes in the Murrumbidgee (Pine Island) on the day of the Equinox. This year it might go a few days beyond then but I doubt it.
