Ideas for rock star/metal themed party

No Slash :P BRILLIANT!!! Hahaha I have a Kurt Cobain wig already... Clothes can be mustered up from the op shop since he always dressed daggy. I'm just not sure about the shotgun wound. I know a lot of the people there would be like "WOAH, that's AWESOME!" but not sure about the rest...

It was also "Kurt". :p No need to get picky about it really; Grunge is still a sub-genre of Rock if you want to truly be a genre-nazi...

Haha komuso I looked at Rollins. The thing is I am in Tassie and we're experiencing sub-zero temps at the moment, wearing nothing but shorts could be a problem... Angus Young would be good but I believe one of my mates already has that set! Xen I got at that in my post, I've asked a couple of friends about doing the Cobain thing and covering my head/chest in blood, some love it, some hate it. Dunno.
  5. Hey all! Heading to a rock/metal celebrity themed party in a few weeks, been throwing around ideas about who I want to go as. There is so much to choose from, and it's for once a dress up theme I really want to put effort in to. I want to avoid cliche stars if I can - Slash, Ozzy Osbourne, Alice Cooper etc. but I also want it to be recognizable to most fans of the genre(s). People I have in mind: - Kurt Cobain of Nirvana - Dee Snider of Twisted Sister - Dimebag Darrell of Pantera - Axl Rose of GnR - Gary Moore of Thin Lizzy/various others - Steve Tyler of Aerosmith (not sure how I could make this recognizable due to the insane plastic surgery, if it's possible to do it via make-up I would TOTALLY do it!) - Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge/Slash There are a few more but just throwing this out there. I'm totally up for make-up. I was toying with the idea of going as Kurt Cobain, complete with a toy shotgun, a gun shot head wound and a blood covered head/chest. But then I think I might get bashed by dedicated Cobain fans, even 20 years on. :p Any suggestions?

    Brisbane has been going off!

Lol, horrified, really? :/ Gimme a good growl any day, but I am glad I'm not at the point where the vocal style determines whether or not I listen to the band, it's so much more than that for me. There are plenty of great traditional metal bands out there with clean vocalists, with much less vocal prowess than the lead singer of Tessaract... But if you don't like it you don't like it ;) I just can't fathom how anyone could possibly be "horrified" by a vocal style, especially a clean one.

Which vocals? The heavy or the clean? I'm assuming heavy vocals, since clean vocals can't really make your ears bleed :P Their album "Altered State" is really meant to be listened to as a whole, start to finish. No love for Meshuggah because everyone already knows they're awesome :P

Glad you enjoy it, only a fairly recent discovery for me, it's overall pretty chill metal listening but their song structures are just so good.

What are you playing at the moment?

Make sure to download and install this:http://games.on.net/2013/06/cd-projekt-red...ial-combat-mod/ I did read about that yesterday actually, but didn't think it was released yet, thanks for the link. Hopefully it doesn't reset any of my saves or anything. Best change is the 5 second reduction in combat dropping time after finishing a fight. I hate standing around waiting for combat to drop so I can loot. Also the strafe while locked on is awesome.

What are you playing at the moment?

The Witcher 2, first play-through (finally), getting ready for Wild Hunt. And Kerbal Space Program.

    Game Sharing on Steam

I think he means the inbuilt web browser, could be wrong though, but that's all I personally find "clunky" about Steam. I don't find the Store to be bad at all.

    How do you handle trolls?

This is what I do all the time, it's the best way to deal with them in my experience haha. Like in BF3 if I am having a shit night where I just can't be fucked concentrating and playing well, and something happens to turn their attention to me, like, I dunno, I crash the chopper into a pole while they are gunning. My K/D is something ridiculously low like 4-19. They're like "stay out of the fucking chopper you useless cunt" I'll simply say "noob" And then proceed to get in the chopper whenever I have the chance.

M_S, I love this thread. It's exactly how I feel when I go to a metal gig, even if the crowd is shithouse, I still have no problems getting into it with a couple of friends close by. I love bands that just take you away to another place. Normally if I go to the pub I'll sink a heap of beers and eventually get blind, but if I go to a pub to see a metal gig, it's rare to find me at the bar. Music always comes first! I'm in Hobart so I don't get much in the way of international gigs, mostly just check out the local stuff (which mind you, is quite good!) - at the moment I am heavily into this new(ish) "Djent" stuff, and off-beat/odd time signature core bands (not sure if they have their own genre). I love symphonic metal as well, haven't been listening to a lot lately as last year I gave it an absolute thrashing! I did go and see Northlane last weekend: Supported by a bunch of bands, including Save The Clocktower from Northern Tasmania!: And if you're wondering what this "Djent" genre is all about, maybe check out TessaracT, one of my favourite bands at the moment. This song has a great chorus, beautiful vocals and writing.

So what's covincing you more so far?

The only thing I have an issue with in relation to the XB1 is the fact that it requires Kinect. Giving MS the ability to essentially peer into your common living space doesn't sit well with me. The always online thing, for me, is a non-issue, as long as some changes are made to it. My PC is always online, Steam/Origin always logged in, Facebook always logged in, etc. If they do make a push for a full DRM-only model in the future, they need to make sure there is an offline feature, like Steam. There are circumstances where I (and many others) wouldn't have access to internet and/or 3/4G to "check in", like for example if I take my console away with me on a family trip to the shack out in some obscure location that doesn't have mobile data coverage. They need to think of these things. They have done the right thing in going back on their original ideas for now, I don't think the typical console gamer is quite ready for full DRM yet. I like the DRM model overall, and would love to see it eventuate within the console market, but I don't think now is the right time. MS were only shooting themselves in the foot. As for what I'll be buying, I'll buy both, play both for a few months, and then they'll go back to collecting dust just like every console I've ever owned post-N64.

Let me know what you think of GW2 again Nuke, been thinking about playing again to finally hit 80 and maybe get into WvW a bit now that there are rewards for it etc...
