Basically our reception computer is running win xp for the last 3 years, and has been running quite smoothly. We have a hp laserjet 1020 which was installed about a year ago. Everything was running smoothly until one of my staff attempted to open a pdf file. and bang... the printer would not print instead we got a printer spool error. i have searched the internet turn spooling off and on set it on automatic. but i need to turn in on permanently as it turns off then i turn it on then it goes off.... any help would be appreciated. in my fustration last night i formated the entire computer took me a few hours to install everything. All day the printer was fine.. then at 5 pm printer spooling error again. SO im not a happy camper, i have activated and turned the printer spooler on and if it fails i have set it to restart the spooler indefintately. i think this post maybe in the wrong location, this is more software than hardware. anyways i have removed the pdf reader and its more stable now but i need to read pdf files !! error : says : Spooler subsystem App has encoutnered a problem and needs to close. szAppName : spoolsv.exe szAppVer : 5.1.2600.6024 szModName : ZSR.DLL szModVer : 6.20.1625.0 offset : 0001f979 As soon as i install acrobat pdf reader i got the printer spooling error. So the files from the pdf reader are stuffing up my printer spooler !!. any help would be appreaciated. thanks

Hi guys. Im setting up a "server" computer for my dental surgery. In the past i always server computers needed to be very fast, with multiple backs up on site and off site. However i remember posting about this on other threads, and some members thought i was insane for using a i7 960 as a server. File server= low specs computer? The functions of this "server" is bascically to share files to the other computers on the network. FIles such as data files and patient jpg of X rays. The same "server computer" is currrently running win xp pro . Should i upgrade the server to win 7 pro? And no its not using windows server. thanks for your help

Does faulty RAM cause PCs to reboot/not turn on?

i just had some dodgey ram..... in one of my computers.. it can cause blue screen of deaths..., quite often there will be nothing wrong for a few days then bang blue screen of death.... turning on and off i suspect maybe more motheboard and wiring the power/ reset buttons to their correct jumpers on the mother board. jusy my humble opinion. -

ok im back from overseas, and got a phone call from msy. They are good chaps. they tested the ram and its dead. when they run it 2 ram chips together its stable but when they run all 3 errors. So to the Technicians AT MLN in essendon IT Wasnt Software issue !! the men at msy are champs. They quickly replaced my memory chips, so hopefully all will be good. now i have to reinstall windows 7 again to make sure there are no errors in the first installation. -

smack me water off a ducks back now.... they had some good intentions though.... I dont see why everybody seems to think that it must be handle by an IT professional. I have had my computer network set up for ten years. I had a computer blown up on me which i replaced with in 1 day and restored all the back up data. It not hard and its certainly is not rocket science. The networks are simple basic stuff. I have had a hardrive also pack it in.. back up data was immediately restored after new hard drive was purchased, and software was reinstalled. MIssion critical the data it is, But the whole surgery DOES NOT HANG ON THE BALANCE OF IT. If a patient died on me yes My reputation as a dentist would hang on the balance. if a patient was unhappy with treatment provided then yes i would loose that patient. but if my computer wasnt working for half a day they dont care about it.. as long as i can still do my work and that they are treated well and with respect. What could result in the computers being down? i cant issue them a receipt for payment or write digital notes take digital X rays.. Well guess what i can do it all manually take a normal film x ray, and write notes on a paper and as for the receipts, i tell the patients" dont pay today pay come back when our computers are back up." they are more than happy not to pay on the day :) if the computers are down it doesnt stop me from giving the Local Aneasthetic or Drilling into their teeth. the one thing that can stop me from doing work is when the mouth light died on me.. i cant see inside the mouth.. or the compressor blowing up on me the drills wont work.. And the person to blame if something goes wrong with my computer network is me or the F$%#$ computer equipement !!! Im going to ruffle some feathers by writing the above but my dental surgery has survived 10 years with full data restored with out an IT guy. i came to atomic looking for answers and some info, since the local IT guys down the road thought it was software issues resulting in bsod. I got some answers and knowledge from atomic, many thanks. I have also plugged inthe 8 pin 12 volt adaptor and have not had a BSOD since. The moboard came with 8 pin plug but 4 of the pins were covered up witha plastic thing that i thought was especially placed there for the moboard. I suspect i may have found the answer since i have had no BSOD since.. but its only been 3 days.. and i was fed up with it so i sent the ram off to msy for inspection. no ram = no computer so no BSOD yet. ill give you an update when i come back from holidays and get the results from msy. -

back to the topic at hand fellas :) the answer to your questions : i bought it all at msy. i had a chat with my it friend and he knows way lot more than me, and yes im begining to think that im way over my head. im just a part time gamer not full time it consultant. We made a decision not to purchase server 2008 as our dental software has server and client versions that run on windows and doesnt need server 2008. i given the ram chips to the guys at msy and they are going to test it. in the mean time ill be overseas. -
i was transferring a huge video file from one computer to the other data transfer rate was 1.6 megs/second... bottle neck was the hard drive ? normal sata drive 1.5 - 3 gigs sata 2 data transfer.

Just an update on what im doing : ive purchased another system to use as a server : exact same configs Except the motherboard. its a gigabyte 58X UdEr. i7 960 6 gigs G skill, BUT the graphics card i got a cheap 45 $ one a gtx 210. and a 450watt power supply. what im doing now is swapping the ram chips with the old one and swappping mobos too to see which one is the culprit. Also I just noticed the following on the old faulty set up : The ATX 12 volt power connecter has 4 pegs.. into a 8 slots motherboard connector :.... as 4 of the slots were covered with a plastic covering. I have removed that plastic covering and now placed in all 8 pegs. DOes that mean i did not supply the motherboard with enough volts ? and hence got the BSODs ? anyways ive set the new rig up with Raid 10, 4 HDDS with remote back up. ive learnt a lot today..... the dodgey set up ill use as my gaming machine. -
motoxx can you please recommend me a good cable ? msy dollar cable is just too cheap to be any good !!
