    What's on your mind?

Really guys. No, not due to lack of maintenance & that's a ridiculous statement for the media to make with no information (not a direct dig at you Jerusalem). Also, splitting the hull for mid life refit as has been mentioned around the place is normal procedure, hell *we* do it. Also, I'd question some people's involvement in certain aspects as usual. Me? Ex O-Boat Submariner (Ovens), maintenance design engineer (ADO, specifically aerospace) & current training contractor to COLSPO (WA).

What Did You Watch Lately ?

Another year, another MIFF - so far we've seen: - Blade of the Immortal (Takashi Miike - brilliant samurai flick) - The Go-Betweens: Right Here - Liberation Day (Laibach in the DPRK) - In This Corner Of The World - Have A Nice Day - The Endless - The Lost City of Z - The Mole Song: Hong Kong Capriccio (another Takashi Miike, sequel to The Mole Song: Undercover Agent Reiji & utterly, brilliantly batshit crazy) - Ancien & The Magic Tablet - My Entire High School Sinking Into The Sea Later this week: - Dark City: Director's Cut - Patti Cake$ - Godspeed - I Am Not Your Negro - The Void

... pondering this a bit tonight. Music. I'd try classical, but it's your head not mine;) Bouncing between Kendrick Lamar, Anderson .Paak & ATCQ. Not working yet, but it's early days.

    What's on your mind?

Had my second bite at long-service last year & went to Europe for 6 weeks. I could do with another break soon but nothing planned/available until January - 2 weeks in NZ. There's sadly too much to get done here and too few people to do it. Woe is moi.

    What's on your mind?

Job fatigue. I've been in this industry for going on 26 years now. 8 in uniform and 18 with my company. I don't hate the job and I don't plan on leaving it. I enjoy the hell out of it for the most part. I haven't stagnated, growing from an analyst 18 years ago to management and running several large programs at the same time. Fun for the most part. I'm in a very niche area with hard to find skill and experience sets. We're only ever going to experience increased demand for our services as the available pool to draw from for new employees is shrinking. I guess I'm just in a slump; but it's not an easy slump to crawl out of. Almost feels Hari Seldon Crisis-ish. I took the day off yesterday as a "mental health day" and now I'm back in the office I actually feel worse. Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid customers don't help either. /whine

Why does my job have to be so fucking difficult these days?

    Doctor Who

What was wrong with Ghostbusters apart from a fairly average script? The actors were good and the effects were okay. I don't get the "appeasement" line, honestly. I grew up with Dr Who, The Goodies & Monkey & I have no problem with character's sex being altered; Tripitaka was played by a woman after all. It's just a movie & just a TV show...nothing to get whatever you choose to wear as undies (if indeed you even do) in a twist. People like it or don't, watch it or don't, and it's not as if we're starved for alternative content these days.

And with heavy heart we bid farewell to George Romero. Both he and Dario Argento along with Tobe Hooper & John Carpenter had a huge impact on my early film-watching life and my love of the genre. George was a great director, never one to go for huge budgets or to be bound by studio execs and chose to tell his stories his way. I had the very good fortune to talk to him briefly a few years back at MIFF. Always generous with his time & always there for his fans. I'm going to miss him.

    What's on your mind?

Yeah, I know. When I need a good laugh I trawl through this thread to catch up on things which I have missed and read certain comments which is like reading a science-fiction novel penned by the world's biggest wanker. lol It fills me with joy at times, on a particularly burning flange of a day ;)

Picking up too many from conference, forums & committee meetings these days. Picked up some nice NATO ones more recently. Not likely to need to buy a pen any time soon.

    What's on your mind?

QF72. Duh. I'm not particularly defending Air Asia, I've had a few good flights with them, but the media has a real hatred of them for some reason. That aircraft is rated ETOPS, all their International aircraft are - it means they can fly perfectly ok on one engine, it was simply prudent to turn back, good decision. As for the fool who asked why they did not divert to Learmonth 25 minutes away, it's a bare bones forward deploy base with no emergency facilities and nowhere to put passengers - dickhead in other words... The pilot did the right thing, may have over-done it a bit on the pray and I'm scared bit but everyone is different. The one thing that I have heard about them is that their training can be a bit sketchy, not unusual with the budget carriers but I'd say he did a fine job. Cheers

They link to the Edge 1000 I'm running, so I can adjust beam, brightness, dip and flash from the unit. It also uses the light sensor on the Edge 1000 to adjust the light level as well. The front light is a bit on the weighty side (225g) but I'm running a steel single speed CX for the daily ride anyway - weight's not really a factor any more :D

Hey, it's a great flick! :p And as one critic has said, sadly the first mis-step DC has made in their history of producing shit superhero films.
