Home Automation - Anyone in to this?

Everything set up is device agnostic, it's more that it's a pita to have to go and get a device if it isn't handy. Ideally I'd have a tablet wall mounted with a permanent power supply. That way I can use the app, or the homeassistant webpage.

We've dipped our toes in, but only so far as purchasing a couple of bulbs and a smart switch. We use a combo of the vendor app, homeassistant, and ifttt recipes to do the basics of what we need: Lounge room lights fading in about 30 mins before sunset, then fading out at 2230. Bedside lamp not on a schedule, but remote access allowing for lighting for the pets. Porch light that comes on when we're within 50m of the house. Outside of that, we've got homeassistant to manipulate the TV (mostly on/off), and a few push notifications for key information - traffic, weather, and shares. So far, so good. Biggest issue i have is that I have yet to configure a workable tablet to be mounted in a key position for full access. Having to grab your laptop/device can be a pain in the arse at times - but nothing that timers and some motion sensors won't resolve.

    Who Here Plays Guitar

I know the tuner is good, I tried the game but I find it has a hard time picking up my guitar on my ipad's Mic even with it tuned to the apps tune program. Get an iRig off eBay. http://www.ebay.com.au/bhp/irig Allows you to do shit like this:

    Who Here Plays Guitar

20 years here. Only a pup compared to ^this guy^ :P I say to break down your playing into two components (and you did say you wanted to learn, so i'm assuming you're starting from scratch again. if not, the below still applies, just you've progressed further along): 1) Learn to play guitar. Learn what notes the strings are, and then learn how to determine what note is what on the fretboard (Protip: you only need to learn the first 11 frets on the fretboard, then it repeats itself). These will help you with barre/power chords. Learn how to make a chord, you're most likely going to learn how to play the aforementioned barre/power chords before you move on to open chords as they're significantly easier to learn. Learn open chords and how to transition between them. This will set you up with the basics for playing songs. 2) Play songs. Look up chord charts for your favourite songs (and be realistic here. You might really enjoy listening to Slayer or Dream Theatre, or whatever, but you're going to be playing Paul Kelly esque tracks to begin with). Learn how to play songs all the way through. As you progress, you'll find the need for additional chords that you've not yet covered, or you're going to learn how to play riffs. These will assist you moving forward with Point 1 - theres no point telling you to learn scales, modes, and so on if you're not able to relate to it. There are plenty of resources online which will show you the above. But if you follow this two pronged approach to playing, you'll be learning and enjoying what you learn as you go along. As for rehearsing, i'm in the rehearsal studio at least two weekends a month going over our setlist. When I'm not doing that, I'm either working on the songs at home, working on my own songs, or just playing along to a cd. What strings are you using? Your pick isn't so important (tho i reckon you're rocking the green tortex 0.88 - great pick, I have em by the hundreds) but you strings will be.
  6. Nah, thats the bassist's older brother in the chair. I'm the one slinging the sledgehammer in the beginning of the clip (and with the sleeveless shirt in the band shots). Unfortunately that model aspect of the clip was planned while we had limited internet while in Europe, so I wasn't aware that there was a potential for Cheeky to be in the clip. The lead singer's missus is a photog, and she had just finished working with two chicks on a shoot that she roped in to return them a favour for the clip. On the day, both of them no showed, and by that time Cheeky had accepted a payback shift at work so was unavailable to be called in at short notice. So, in the end, the two chicks in the clip are the HMU and the photog - not exactly ideal, because it meant we didn't get as many behind the scenes shots as we'd have liked. Next time ;)

    'Tis the season... for burglars...

I'm glad you didn't actually catch them in the act. One punch and you'd have been forced to look after a kebab store. And then the cops would show up and have to give your their guns. Probably for the best.

    What's on your mind?

Cheeky's Ma worked as a greeter at the Peninsula when she was much, much younger. She used to descend the steps at the main entry, before greeting guests at the door. Otherwise, she'd walk down and sit at one of the chairs on the side at the bottom of the steps. When we went last year on our honeymoon, it was a must for us to go check it out (and the little bar) so that Cheeky could re-enact the whole process for her Ma back home.

New Name. New Singer. New Single.

I keep threatening to replace Angus McFangus, but Biskit would go mental.

New Name. New Singer. New Single.

Thanks dude :) That seems to be a common theme from a lot of folk, that they find this more accessible than our older stuff. I've just been told that the demo for our second single is nearly done, so we'll work on that before heading to the studio to record it. Apparently its as shit hot as the first one, which will be officially released on Dec 10.
