  1. My cock? You couldn't manage it :P My unit? Man, the landscape has changed, big time. Notice that I said I was the DBA... Means someone has left ;) I'd love to stay on as Ass. Man. (lol), but there are possibly some changes coming up which I would feel much better about if I was in a different role...

    In Brisbane? Like metal?

Rumours of our demise have been greatly exaggerated... Well, yes and no. We're still playing this festival. We're still billed as Dead Deities. But we'll have new music, a guest vocalist (or new singer couldn't make the gig), and a bigger sound. :)
  3. I recently applied, was interviewed for, and "won" a demotion. I went from being the Assistant Manager within our unit to the DBA. I take a hit in pay, but have negotiated conditions to make it worth while. Professionally, it is more of a sideways step than a backwards step as the move was definitely smarter for my longterm future. Personally, little has changed. Quality of life has improved slightly, but that will definitely have its ups and downs.

I bought this today: I had the obligatory: "Holy fuck, I'm about to do this" moment, followed immediately by the "Holy fuck... I own this" moment. 2012 Les Paul Traditional in Honey Burst, for those playing at home.

So it has been a while. I'm not going to bore you with the stuff that only a select few care about (uni, work promotions, training, and so on), and skip right to the good stuff. Noddy and I are in a band! Dead Deities! Even tho we've been threatening to do so for ages, we didn't start it, no. In fact, once again its the whole "who you know" game that gets you places, when Noddy picked up the sticks to help out some old school mates of his. Their original drummer left, from what I can tell it was not long after they recorded their first album, right when they wanted to promote it. So Noddy steps in and starts banging away like your mum after a friday night session at Rooty Hill RSL. Somewhere, in the midst of all this banging, it was said that a second guitarist could really bring some oomph to the band's sound. Noddy, being the legend that he is, says "I know just the guy". Nek minnit, I'm rehearsing with the band, and given 2 weeks to learn the album in preparation for our first gig as a 5 piece. Wanna know if we're any good? Ask Mills - Mr. 666. ;) (or, you could click the link above. But ask Mills anyway. He loves it.) Pics or it didn't happen: Rehearsal (and filming the video clip) Promo shot: 2 weeks ago, we played our first gig together at the Agincourt Hotel, in Broadway. We were 3rd on a 5 band bill, and easily had the noisiest audience :) The show went well, once I managed to shake off the first gig jitters. It was the first time in a long time for both Noddy and I to set foot on a proper stage, and once we got settled in, the music flowed, and we all got right into it. More pics: And my personal favourite (thanks Gir) Video clips (both shot before Noddy and I joined): 1st single - Invisible Man 2nd single - No Sense There are a couple of videos of us from the gig, but they were uploaded to facebook and I'm not sure if folks would like their fb linked here without checking first, so yeah... Maybe later >_> So yeah, thats what we've been doing. Cheeky has been pretty good about it all, just another thing to add to my already massive list of extra curricular activities. Then again, she enjoys drinking with the band, so its a win/win for us both :) If you're interested in catching us, we've got a couple of shows coming up - Saturday 6th of July at Valve, Tempe, and our first interstate show on Saturday 10th of August at The Basement, ACT!. So... without wanting this to become a community event thread, anyone wanna come have a beer with Noddy, Cheeky and I in August? ;) That's what Noddy and I have been doing. You?

I initially started watching it on ebay because i was sick of how my King V's tuning would vary wildly from one song to the next. Decided pretty quickly that I didn't really want it (plus, my V is a much better guitar), but kept watching it anyway. Got a notice yesterday afternoon that the auction was ending in about 10 minutes. Called my brother, asked him if he wanted it. He did, set a max price, and told me to get it for him. I sniped it with seconds to go, for $2 more than the listing price (the other bidder must have only matched the listing price in his opening bid), and $50 less than my brother's price limit. Not bad. Comes with a case too. And I'm in the seller's neighbourhood today, so will just pick it up with a minimum of fuss.

Should receive it by the end of the month (which is handy, as I'll use it in August). Bought it off ebay, to avoid paying the Australia Tax.

Speaking of potatoes, the rest of the yt vids are up. Thy Father. (I really enjoy playing this one). And just because its a little hard to understand: Lives destroyed In the name of God Preach peace and love But it's a blatant lie Protected by the church Rapist priest Protected by the state Rapist priest Protected by his friends Rapist priest Protected by the congregation Childhood innocence gone Another priest gets away with it No more silence Time to speak up If there is a God How can this be?

Money (and the spending of it)

I'll research something long and hard before buying it. If its worth real money (greater than 25% of weekly take home), then I'll consider the timing of the purchase in line with other expenses. If its less than that, I'll just grab it. Right now I've got a shopping list that i've limited to $1500 on a few items. I can afford them, I've researched them, but I don't *need* them. I can get away without them for a while, but I will certainly be better off once I have them. The only reason I'm holding off, is because Cheeky and I are planning a holiday in September. We've been forced to take leave, so we figure we'll go overseas again. Again, its not the issue of spending the money, or even having it in the first place, its simply the timing and the buffer that I like to allow myself via my bank account. I was actually thinking about this over coffee today, when it was suggested that I see if laybuy is an option for the gear i'm after. I just don't see the point. I have the cash, I can spend the cash. Laybuy won't affect my situation at all, because I'm still spending the money that I already have. I'd throw it onto credit, for the perks that gives, and still may opt to do so once I've got some solid figures for my holiday. But even then, I might just wait a few months and see if I can get a bargain on ebay.

Yeah, the comment was made that I fit more the punk aesthetic than the metal one... (which is kind of why I bought them in the first place :P) The comments re: my new jeans, and their similarities to leather pants, have confirmed my stage wear from here on in :)

We smashed it tonight. Converted a venue full of death metal folk to our sound. Stuck around fr 4 hours and had beers with everyone. If you weren't there, you missed out. Maybe next time.

FTFY :P Fantastic! Maybe I should start badgering the guys about a national tour :P (Speaking of, those in Sydney who want to see us, our show this weekend (Saturday 6th) will be the last Sydney show we play for a while. We have a few other things lined up, as well as a return to the studio).

They're serious, but don't take themselves too seriously. I mean, everyone has a ft job and a family/other commitments, but everyone is fully pro to what we're doing. The lyrics are personal to our singer, Nathan, and even tho i dont always agree with them/his position on things, it works because i understand where he comes from. And the fact that when he's singing about priests raping kids and it being covered up by the church, or police abusing their power, or meat being murder - they're happy to let me wear a TMNT mask in the process. That's a fucking fit, no matter where you stand.

I got denied. Tho not because it is Hello Kitty, but because the tone of that guitar wouldn't be right for what we're playing (which makes sense, we were questioning a guy using a tele last week and it didn't sound right. We'd be bagging someone one week, then doing the same the next). Edit: for reference, i play a jackson king v and a ltd m-100. They both have active pickups and a particular sound. They did dig it tho, they enjoy a bit of that action - they let me play with my turtles mask on at the last gig. Just got out of a rehearsal, went really well. Found my tone, ran thru the set, and worked on a new song. Now to take the missus out for a night on the town. Life is good :)

I was actually considering doing it. I'll ask about it for the gig next week :)
