    GeForce 275.33 GTX580 Issue

No problems here on the 275 drivers - solid as a rock, although the PC does lock up now and again - I'm putting that down to the SSD.
  3. So being a little bored this weekend, I decided to throw another drive into the PC and see what all the SSD fuss was about. I installed Windows on the SSD and started testing. I didnt really test the drive before I put the OS on it - but I doubt it makes much of a difference. I've used two different programs, HD Tune HD Tune and Crystal Disk Mark CDM as they both show different test, giving good feedback on how the disks are performing. HD Tune; As you can see the OCZ access time is unreal - just what you want for an operating system, being the OS im not too concerned about the Transfer rates. The one in the middle is 3 x 320GB Western Digital WD3200KS - this is used for storage of the usual rubbish found on everyone PC. The one on the far right is 2 x 74GB Western Digital Raptors WD740ADFD - this was my system drive, but the noise they made, even just surfing the net, was starting to drive me nuts. As you can see the access time isn't too shabby, nearly twice as fast as the 3 x RAID. These are benchmarks of the same, individual disks on the HD website: Individual Raptors - as you can see - the access time is very similar, but the Transfer rate on the RAID is much higher. Means the RAID is working exactly as it should - increasing transfer rates while not having too much of an impact on Access Time. Individual WD3200KS's. Same as above, the RAID is working perfectly - tripling the Transfer rates but not having too much of an access time hit. Shows the nvidia RAID controller is performing admirably. Crystal disk mark; Test Types: Seq : Sequential Read/Write Test (Block Size = 1024KB) 512K : Random Read/Write Test (Block Size = 512KB) 4K : Random Read/Write Test (Block Size = 4KB) 4K QD32 : Random Read/Write Test (Block Size = 4KB, Queue Depth = 32) for NCQ&AHCI Even though the Nvidia 780i does not support AHCI - you can still see it is obviously working in Nvidias own special way. The SSD clearly spanks the other two RAID arrays in the random read/write tests, which makes sense as there is no moving parts - the head doesn't need to whip back and forth. I've also changed the strip size on the raptors a couple of times, this doesn't change the results of the above tests. All in all, whilst not really needed, the SSD does make a nice addition to the family, I love how windows starts up now in seconds. The best thing though, the thing thats made me most glad of the purchase is how beautifully quiet the pc is now - just the gentle whir of fans....

LOL what? Crappy resolution? Its the Full HD standard. And thats just it, its standard. I prefer to go beyond the standard. :) Take for instance a 24 inch monitor. It has a resolution of 1920x1200. That means I have more pixels in the area of my monitor then a 24" showing 1920x1080. It means that the gaps between the pixels is less. When you then extrapolate it out to a 27" monitor showing 1920x1080, the gaps between the pixels is even greater... Using this calculator : http://members.ping.de/~sven/dpi.html Display size: 23.53" × 13.24" (59.77cm × 33.62cm) = 81.59 PPI, 0.3113mm dot pitch, 6657 PPI² (27" monitor at 1920x1080 has 6657 pixels per inch) Display size: 20.35" × 12.72" (51.69cm × 32.31cm) = 94.34 PPI, 0.2692mm dot pitch, 8900 PPI² (24" monitor at 1920x1200 has 8900 pixels per inch) Of course these are all just numbers, if your happy with your display and like the look of it, then they're unimportant.
  5. Link broken? I get a server not found error on Firefox... Im hearing you - I grabbed my first EVGA board, a 780i FTW and it worked like a dream straight off the bat....No BIOS updates and rock solid reliability. Its a shame they dont have more market share, they would release more products...

cheaper manufacturing costs, higher demand in the marketplace for 1080P personally I think 1080P on a 27" screen looks pretty bad, I tried it on a U2711 which was also 16:9. You would think Asus would understand there's a money spending group out there who would pay a bit more for a 27" 2560 x 1440 LED monitor, seems a bit short sighted to offer nothing in that range... Couldn't agree more re the looking bad - on TV's where you're 3 metres away its all good - but from the 500mm that you sit from your monitor it would look chunky.

So the resolution of these are only 1920x1080... Whats the deal with large monitors with this crappy resolution?
