Do Virus checkers spy on us

Ran this over a systems using Avira, MSE or AVG and found a lot of infections as most of those programs allow malware and PUP (crapware) on PC's. Pure AV is a fail to average users full of crapware auto installed with 'free' software and driveby toolbars and search hijackers.
  5. AMD cpu's and Windows 8 My friends old 64 bit cpu would work on 8 and not 8.1 so do some research. My feeling on 8 installs is it needs a cd key during install and does not have the 30 days grace that windows 7 home had. Might not be 100% correct about 8 as I rolled a 8.1.1 integrated usb I use for my installs AMD cpu's and Windows 8 My friends old 64 bit cpu would work on 8 and not 8.1 so do some research. 9. http://lifehacker.com/5467758/move-the-use...ry-in-windows-7 At work we used to move 'Documents' to a share on the file server of small businesses, so the users files got backed up and where there if the workstation hardware failed or was upgraded If you use the libraries system you can do a lot more then documents in win 7, you also might want to move temp folder to another drive. The libraries method requires less assng about. Commonly this is done on small SSD installs. basically nothing but OS on C: My recommendation is do a full backup of the drive if you can using windows backupor macrium reflect (free edition) before you make major changes, always good to have a backup anyway

    Windows 8 cant log out

SHIFT when you reboot (onscreen kb) can give you new options like safe mode. F8 might also work. Used to be holding power on the device should "clunk power off" and prevent sleeping

    Belkin Easy Transfer Cable

M$ just bought this app to allow noobs to get onto Win 8 easier. NO idea if its good or not. FREE is a nice price. I have used easy but its about as good as manully copying over files. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/en-us/xp/...-your-data.aspx
  14. to make a reinstall easy as, check out ninite.com it will automate the whole reinstall of most common free programs. Its got no malware, saves so much time, updates if older version installed. Bbut does all go on C: (issue if small SSD) . . so don't go nuts

Installing Windows from a USb flash drive

I like to build a USB with lots of tools, Live CD Linux, Repair DVD tools and Installers for Windows 7,8 and Linux YUMMI is my goto tool. I might mention shorten the ISO names and all lower case. that's been an issue for me in the past. Even takes to the download site for Linux Distros etc. 1. One USB you want to WIPE 2. Download and install YUMMI (no install just run it) 3. Wipe the drive for the first write (tick box) 4. Add more ISO file, linux, repair tools whatever. 5. Boot USB and choose from the menu. NOTE: Its Slower to boot ISO's this way than Windows 7 DVD Tool but I like a lot of tools on a USB 32GB etc Linky http://www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-multiboot-usb-creator/
