  1. So i stumbled upon this interesting article this evening. And it works for the most part, even just for 5 mins of fun. The lens im using is from a dvd writer and i am using a iphone 3gs. so the quality is still pretty bad, but the zoom amount is amazing. and much much more than 5x. as you can see below. http://mods-n-hacks.wonderhowto.com/inspir...x-zoom-0114018/ All i did to mount mine was cut a small square piece of paper out, fold it in half and cut a hole in the middle of it about 3/4s the size of the lens. then taped up the side with the lens inside. stock iPhone 3gs cam the screw thread The bottom left star on the $2 coin this 1 is interesting, i hadn't ever noticed that this was actually readable text before. the first word is.

    GPU/Sound Card Collection

I'm using my 2 retro gaming systems for testing and benchmarking all the AGP cards. Then I have a more modern system running XP to remove CPU bottleneck on all the PCIE cards. AMD Athlon XP 3200+ / 2Gb DDR400 / nForce 2 Ultra Chipset / XP SP3 Pentium 4 Northwood 3.4 / 4Gb DDR433 / Intel 865 Chipset / XP SP3 i5 2400 / Z77 SLI matx mobo / 4Gb DDR3 1333 / XP SP3 Benching is going well so far, no major issue. Both AMD/ATI & Nvidia have good legacy XP drivers that cover all the cards I've got. So no driver/game issues thank god. As far as CPU effecting scores, its not too bad. 3dmark06 is the main CPU killer, 01-05 only run dumbed down game tests for CPU unlike 06. The easier way to test this is using Aquamark3, where it gives both a GPU/CPU/overall score breakdown. For example: P4 @ 3.6Ghz / 9800 Pro GPU - CPU - Overall 6,579 9,944 49,436 XP 3200+ @ 2.4Ghz / 9800 Pro GPU - CPU - Overall 6,030 7,100 42,306 Where as in 3dmark05 is reverse. The 3200+ produces the higher score. I tested it a few times same results. Yet when you use 06 is over 200 point on the P4 due to having HT for the better physx tests. P4 @ 3.6Ghz 3Dmark05 Score: 3244 XP 3200+ @ 2.4Ghz 3Dmark05 Score: 3314 "Real-world" gaming however this is where the P4 really shines. Everything runs smoother and much more stable FPS, not to mention the 3200+ lacks SSE2 support so no legit source engine games run.

I need to find a display cabinet for them too, since the photo a couple more arrived and i've ran out of room on that shelf :( I'm also going full benchmarks & overclocking tests on all the cards as well. got a rather large spreadsheet going atm with all the results. I'm doing a mix of 15 or so synthetic/game benchmarks per card. fun times :P
  6. Project Nalu, Retro build: A system from hardware from 2001-2004 (single core / agp era). I've started in my spare time wanting to go back and play some older games. But I found getting them to run on modern systems just doesn't give the same nostalgic feel. So I decided to build one a system based on parts from that era. Back then right before the X2 & duel core era took off, I rocked and Athlon XP 3200+ & 6800 ultra AGP. So that was my base starting point. That was the level of performance I was aiming for. I didn't want to just buy the first items I found on ebay either, as most hardware from this era was very prone to short life spans. So the part search began... 7. I'm going to test a cross a mix of my old school agp win xp system and my racing using windows 7. it will allow me to cover both dx8.1, 9c & above separately. rather than try do everything on a single machine and have driver and support issues. im not after best case results just a rough scale of performance starting from 2001 to today.
  8. Thought i'd lurk by & say hi :P Also going to be doing a big benchmark post soon. Over the past couple years I've been slowing building up a collection of every GPU I've ever owned. And i thought it would be fun to do a evolution comparison of where it all started up to where I am atm. I've still got a couple GPU's left before I complete my full history, but thankfully I've managed to source them. My list: HAVE 2 - Voodoo 2 12mb SLI PCI (2x Magic 3D) HAVE - Geforce 2 Ultra 32mb AGP (Leadtek) Sourced - Geforce 4 Ti4800 128mb AGP (Asus V9480) HAVE - Radeon X800 GTO 128mb AGP (Sapphire All-In-Wonder) Sourced - Geforce 6600 GT 128Mb AGP (XFX) HAVE - Geforce 6800 Ultra 256mb AGP (Reference) HAVE - Radeon X1950 XTX 512mb (Sapphire) Sourced - Geforce 8800 GTS 640Mb (XFX) HAVE - Radeon HD5770 1Gb (XFX XXX Editon) Sourced - Geforce GTX 460 SLI 1Gb (2x EVGA) HAVE 1 - Geforce GTX 760 SLI 2Gb (2x EVGA SC) CURRENT - Geforce GTX 970 4Gb (MSI Gaming 4G) I'll do a mix of 3DMark06 + 3DMark2001 SE. The Voodoo cards wont be benched due to lack of drivers & the 760 is sadly dead :(
  9. Help me build a top 10 desirable vintage GPU collection. Hi all, I am currently building a new display cabinet for my ever growing collection of vintage hardware. The cabinet isn't big, but it would house lets say 10-12 graphic cards for example of size. However I would like to reach out to different communities for inspiration to help put together a meaningful collection of hardware to go into it. Sooo, want I want to do it put together a collection of 10 of the most desirable video cards from over the past few decades. So i would like some help from you guys in order to work out what are not just my most desirable cards, but what others might wish to have in their own collection. Notes on what I am after: - Item must be an add-in card classed as a "graphics accelerator" design for either PC 3D gaming or workstation 3D rendering. Not a 2D video out card. - Cards Interfaces: ISA, PCI, AGP, PCI-E or workstation extended variants. - Think of 1 card or a list of your top 10. - Both reference & board partner models are ok. But think unique/special. - 1 off concept or limited release cards. 1 off example, Galaxy Duel GPU GTX460 White. - I want extreme, over the top or truly unique. (eg: outrageous cooler design, crazy duel/quad/hex/oct core, insanely over engineered overclockable.) - Beautifully crafted card. sexy cooler designs or custom PCB card. Vintage/old cards I already own: - 2x 3DFX Voodoo 2 12mb SLI Cards (going into top 10) - Nvidia Geforce 2 Ultra 32mb - Nvidia Geforce 4 MX 440 - Nvidia Geforce 4 Ti 4600 - Nvidia Geforce 6800 Ultra 256mb AGP - ATI Radeon X800 GT 128Mb All-In-Wonder (going into top 10) - ATI Radeon X1950 XTX 512Mb Crossfire Card - ATI Radeon 9800 XT Options I've got my eye on so far: - 3DLabs Dynamic Pictures Oxygen 402 32Mb Quad Core PCI video card. - 3DLabs Wildcat Realizm 800 - ATI Rage Fury Maxx 64mb Duel GPU card. - Nvidia Geforce 7900 GX2 (or 7950 GX2) - EVGA Geforce GTX 780 TI Classified K|ingP|in Edition (overclocking insanity) - Asus MARS III ROG Card. (Duel 680s) - 3DFX Voodoo 5 6000 (Quad chip) - ATI Radeon 9500 Pro. (An old school legend) - Quantum3D's 8-way Voodoo5 SLI (3DFX insanity) - Quantum 3D Mercury (no words....) I may have room for up to 12 gpus depending on what I end up getting, but I am going to add into the collection an Asus Ageria PhysX Card for the lols. Please feel free to list any of your favourite cards or any suggestions you have. There just might be some crazy card or vintage legend I wasn't privy to.
  10. I just spent the past 24hours rebuilding my mates PC. Added 2nd 970, GPU blocks, New rads, new Ice white coolant & remade some of his cabling. Specs: 2600K Asus Z68 Mobo (i forgot model) 16Gb Ripjaws X ram 2x MSI GTX970 gaming. CM Cosmos S Case EK GPU Blocks. XSPC CPU Block EK parts Purple PrimoChill tubing.
  11. Fittings are BItspower White 1/2" compression fittings and tubing is PrimoChill LT Advanced Purple 1/2" inner 3/4"outer
  12. Got bored of the Red & Black, went with Red & White instead. Frost White Plasti-Dip to be precise.
  13. Water cooling works well. 140 monsta in front, 120 45mm in rear and 35mm 360 in roof. 2600K @ 5Ghz sit around 23c average & 45c under load. 970s sit around 25c idle and 48c load. nothing goes over 50c.
  14. Just checked your score gamble to compare to mine. Wow... I think I have even more respect for my old 2500K now. You get a cpu score of 12.7K@4.8Ghz, While I only get 9.5K@5.2Ghz. We both get 11.1K overall, even know your GPU is slightly lower clocked, your CPU evens it out. :D
  15. I was meaning the CPU Physics score, not overall score. sorry. It went from between 9k to 9.5k just from running duel channel and the correct timings. Which in turn only made up to a 0.5% (100) increase in the overall score.
  16. The Mini Me rebuild With a new rebuilt office in our new place, I decided to downsize my PC from my old Corsair 600T into something smaller & lighter. I ended up going with the Aerocool Xpredator Cube since it was the only matx case of this nature that supported a decent sized 3.5" HDD cage and had room for my water cooling. New Case: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=25_1287&products_id=29335 Some of you guys may have seen my old build, but for those who haven't this is what it was. This illustrates my downsize old vs new. Build Log in pictures. Info: I will be looking at getting a 2nd 970 at some point in the future when I feel I need it, and water cooling them both. I've also had to rebuild the pump/res system twice due to faulty pumps and bad manufacturing of the acrylic pump housing. Ill also be replacing the 120mm rear fans with 140mm ones at some point when I can be ass'd." The colour theme is still Red/white, the dark photos make the fans look orange, but they are red.

    Rare game

This doesn't seem legit.. 3 brand new users all coming to the same thread, 1 seeks info, the others give the exact info. Almost seems like a search-bate thread from a game dev seeking for people to look at their game. :/ oh, yikes just realized how old this thread is. :/ XD
  18. So Dasa I was doing a bit of research on how to get this board to support all 4 of my ram dims. As it refused to work in duel channel mode or have any modules installed in A1 & B1 slots. And I found a post as to what might explain the crazy ram timing I got. Turns out there is a bios bug which reports the incorrect timing by a factor of -3 on the main one and -6 on the final timing. This means when I thought I was setting it to 6-6-6-20, but it was actually at 9-9-9-26. So your honest surprise (and mine) initially was correct in thinking this wasn't right or was some kind of super amazing ram. Both issues have been solved gladly. I had to install a single stick into slot A2 only > boot into bios > manually set the exact rated timings & voltage of the ram > re-boot > wait until it boots once again > shut down > then install 2 modules into B1 & B2 only > boot once again > get into windows > shut down > then install the other 2 modules into A1 & A2. Once that was done in that order i could finally boot with all 4 dims @ there rated speeds (and above) while also getting the correct timing reporting. Sooo i redid the bench tests to see how much of a difference duel channel + default timings made vs 8gb single channel incorrect lower timings. And it was a small gain, but still a gain. The biggest difference came from the CPU physics score where it added an extra 450-550 points.
  19. Yeah much quieter. Having fewer fans in general all running on low rpm lowers the overall noise. I've got the duel pumps running on there lowest settings too and they are the loudest part of it now. If you read the post in the atomic 3dmark ranking thread the specs are listed there. But ill be running it at 4.6ghz and gpu at stock most of the time. It would be sub 20db maybe upto 25 while gaming.
  20. Corsair Vengence Pro, check the cpu memory. It took a bit of trial and error but it booted ran the tests @ those timings so I didn't question it haha. IMAGE LINK HERE!
  21. After getting my Gene-Z build back up and running I've cranked out what I think to be the absolute limit of all my hardware. BLK @ 101x52. CPU 5.252Ghz @ 1.5v. Memory @ 2154Mhz @ 6-6-6-20 1.5v (ram can go 2200+ but no point extra adds nothing). GPU @ 1542Mhz core @ +0.25v, 8208Mhz memory. Firestrike: 11095 - http://www.3dmark.com/fs/3436789 - i5-2500K @ 5.252Ghz(Water) / MSI GTX970 @ 1542/8208(Air) Yay 11K club!

GTA V removed from sale from Target Australia

Someone has made a change.org partition to get fifty shades of grey removed from target as a direct result of them taking GTA 5 off shelves. it's never going to happen, but it's funny. https://www.change.org/p/target-stop-selling-fifty-shades-of-grey-in-all-target-stores
  23. when I run FS, only the first test will show changes in core clock. say if I've got it set at 1549, the first test will hover between 1529-1549 but then 2nd test and beyond will sit at 1549. the only time i see more throttling is if i have my system fans set to low & stock auto gpu fan. When I bench/oc/game all my fan are controlled via gpu load so everything revs up and the card sits between 58-64 @ 1549. * I also get my new Z77 mobo soon so I should be able to re-bench with a 5.2 cpu clock. Going from 4.7 to 5.2 made about an 800 point cpu score difference which should give me over the 11k FS mark which would be nice.
