And What Are You Listening To?

Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy First album I've bought on release day....it's fuckin' sick.
  2. Hello Atomicans. I've recently started doing (unpaid) gig photography where a blog/website sends me and I chuck the photos on their site. I've had one artist contact me, and I sold her a few photos where I just had her bank transfer the money over. Now, I've had some other friends who are in bands ask if I'll do live and promo shoots, but I don't have an ABN or anything. I've googled around, and I am super confused. They talk about claiming expenses and whatnot? I'd like to take the easy way out and just have them deposit it to my bank account, but I'm pretty sure that's frowned upon/illegal/throw me in jail FOR LIFE kinda thing. Any advice is appreciated! Thanks in advance. :D

    The next picture will...

JESUS FUCK GET IT AWAY. (Translation: Nice work, lighting is great- leads straight to the eyes....DEVIL EYES.) This is my favourite photograph I've taken, everything just worked so perfectly for this shot. Took it at my uncle's farm about two years ago now. The next image will be lo-fi.

    Headphones: Open vs Closed

I've had my pair of Senheisser PX200's (closed) for over a year now and they've served me well. Pro's- durable, lightweight, doesn't let sound out (which is good, cos I only use them on PT), sounds okay. Con's- doesn't have the greatest sound, distinct lack of bass.
  21. Sorry for the wall of stuff, but questions like that are my Bat-signal... Judee Sill - Judee Sill Sill's story is a pretty sad one. She wrote songs for other bands and artists while trying to make a name for herself. She only recorded two albums before disappearing from the limelight and dying from a drug overdose in her 30's. This is her first album (released in '72), and it is beautiful. Up there with the best of Joni Mitchell's work I reckon. See Jesus Was A Cross Maker and . Sianna Lee - Phoenix Propeller Sianna Lee is (was?) the lead singer from the Aussie band Love Outside Andromeda, and what's surprising is that it sounds nothing like that band at all. It's a quiet, sparse and dark album. The instrumentation and production is minimal. The duet Lily, What Did I Do? is my fave. http://www.myspace.com/siannaleemusic Unrest - Imperial F.F.R.R. I have a total soft spot for 90's alt rock, and this album tops them all. It has some brilliant pop songs on it ( , Cherry Cream On, ), some solemn moments (Isabel, the epic track ) and even a few instrumentals. What I find most odd about this album is that it doesn't really sport a particular 'mood', I'm not sure if that's just 'cause it's so diverse, but I love it nonetheless. Jenny Lewis with The Watson Twins - Rabbit Fur Coat Mashes up country, folk, pop and a bit of soul. Although it's nothing groundbreaking, it is unbelievably pretty (especially those harmonies *swoon*). Bit of awesome- Sarah Silverman is in the video for DJ Shadow - Endtroducing... Where to start with this one? Shadow made this album entirely from samples, using nothing but a sampling machine (save a few overdubs IIRC). Took him something like three years. The songs are pretty chill, but this definitely has to be heard as a whole. Check Stem/Long Stem and Midnight In A Perfect World. Okay, that's it for now...
  22. Ah, I totally walked past this Friday night, got the voucher for the free ice cream but cbf waiting in line. WAIT! Just saw the voucher on my desk, expires end of this month....will grab one on my break tomorrow. :D

iTunes the weak link for Apple?

iTunes 9 was pretty much perfect to me. Don't like the look of 10, but I'm getting used to it (DAMMIT, I want my album art slider back). From what I've read, v10 is supposed to be heaps faster on Windows too. What I like about it? I like the interface (big arse album art ftw) and the easy syncing between iPod-iTunes-Last.fm. It's damn fast and responsive too with a ~215GB library. And Genius is a nice touch. What I don't like- no way AFAIK to have multiple composers or genres for a song. Editing song info on a compilation does funny things, but is fixed with a restart. I'm not really a heavy video user, only use iTunes to put videos on my iPod, which I delete after watching anyway. That's my 2c.

    Got myself a camera!

Enjoy it man. I had the biggest case of buyer's remorse after paying ~$800 for a s/h Nikon a few years back, but it's been one of the best purchases I've ever made. For learning the basics, Athiril wrote a great guide here - http://forums.atomicmpc.com.au/index.php?showtopic=72 P.S. Don't use idiot mode! And be sure to show us some results :D
