I just tried the Occulus Rift

I posted it while still hysterically laughing at the stupid video, but then realised some may not enjoy the humour behind it. Tried linking it differently so people weren't taken straight to it and could decide for themselves. Back up now anyway, and have flagged it to the mods in case I've broken a rule somewhere.. I was giggling up until the ragdoll/guitar/mass explosion scene when I nearly fell off my chair

What will really happen with VR - NSFW Link goes to ebaumsworld, and some may find the video offensive (got taken down by youtube).

Windows 7 install on MacBoor Air

Ran it with Bootcamp, didn't like 64 bit Ultimate so tried 64 bit Professional and all worked fine. Now boots to Windows on startup and everything is working as it should! Was thinking about deleting the OSX partition ad expanding the Windows one but I have no idea if the Bootcamp drivers are tied to the OSX system at all... Anyone tried that before?

Windows 7 install on MacBoor Air

No dice unfortunately - that article is from 2010 when MacBook Airs had USB 2. I tried making a Windows 7 install USB with added USB 3.0 drivers from Intel but still no luck. No idea how to "reverse" a USB installer to an ISO to see if the new USB3 powered installer works from disc. At this stage I think I'll have to head to Plan B and go down the BootCamp road and install side by side. With a 120gb SSD this isn't ideal for disk space but will have to do. I'll try and update when victorious!

Windows 7 install on MacBoor Air

Hey guys, Just throwing a quick query out into the world. My friend has a 2013 MacBook Air, and wants Windows 7 installed on it (I don't care why). They don't care for Apple OS at all, so I'm going to wipe it for a complete installation of Windows to the drive. Boot it up with a Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit install disc in an external optical drive (connected over USB - MacBooks don't have their own drive). Installation starts with the Language menu, and the keyboard/trackpad do not work. Connect a USB mouse (tried wired and wireless) with no luck. I'm pretty sure the issue is related to Windows 7 not having native USB 3.0 support, but thought it weird that the USB Optical Drive would work, but USB keyboards/mice wouldn't. Any suggestions for how to get past this issue? Plan B involves installing Boot Camp and going Windows/Mac OS side by side, and set it to Windows by default I suppose, at a cost of HDD space for an OS that will never get used. Cheers and thanks in advance if you have any ideas!

    Racing Simulator Build

Honestly cannot remember! I do remember trying to wrap my head around Crossfire, Eyefinity and Soft TH and getting them to work together being a pain in the arse. Two screens? No worries! Three? Trouble! This was my first multiple GPU build and I was hoping it would be a bit easier with everything. The trouble was more than likely my fault, not the hardware's though. The break through came late at night after some serious beer consumption. Next time I am over there I will recheck the settings and let you know. The GPU set up will need some revision when rFactor 2 and the new iRacing come out. Speaking from memory, Soft TH works with Direct3D 8 and 9 games only - at least I have some time to do some research to see how we can make it work when they are released. Haha don't do much rallying in it but now you have me wondering if from time to time we can reprogram the sequential as a handbrake... We settled on 24s for a few reasons; firstly, we could mount them much closer than other Simulators have their monitors. Secondly, at the time they were the best in regards to bang for your buck. Gotta stick to the budget! We played around a bit with the position of the monitors to get them as optimal as possible. When you are in the seat they take up your FOV quite well. Maybe for the next build though.... Thanks to everyone for their good work comments!

    Racing Simulator Build

Cheers! It works a treat aswell, everyone that has a go doesn't want to get out! Why wouldn't you? After my mate wrote off the ute at Clipsal we had to salvage parts - it was there on the workshop floor and we needed to build the rig out of something. Plus having the cage around you while your sitting in it adds to the simulation I guess. Not to mention having to climb in and out of it; just like a real race car! Done! My bad, haven't posted in quite some time and I seem to be more than a little rusty!

    Racing Simulator Build

So the new review of the new Cyberkart has made me get off my arse and actually post something for a change. Tossed up whether or not maybe this should go in Building or Gaming; but as it is already built (for gaming) I settled on here. If it needs to be moved, please do, and my bad. With rFactor 2 coming up; my friend and I are very excited. Excited enough to build him a new Simulator for it. Plus it acts as training for when he races IRL. Its a Cracker! Built it over a couple of weekends and too many beers.. THE SPECS Sim Rig 3 screens at 5760 x 1080p; run with Soft TH Triple Head Software Logitech G25 pedals, shifter, and modified steering unit with MMG Dash Dispay Unit and OMP Porsche 997 race wheel. Carbon Fibre Cobra Race Seat. Simworx Custom Sequential Shifter. Custom Guiher Motorsports Button Box. Cracker Custom built Race Frame from V8 Ute roll cage. PC AMD Phenom II X6 1090t Black Edition w/ Noctua NH-U12P SE2 cooler ( to be OC'd...). Gigabyte GA-890-FXA-UD7 Rev 2. 8GB Corsair PC2000 DDR3 RAM. 2 X Sapphire Raedon HD6970 2GB GPUs. WD 1TB Caviar Black HDD. Corsair HX-1000watt PSU. CM HAF 932 Case. Original Sim Rig. Computer ran rFactor with one screen, but couldn't do multiples. We kept the Seat, G25 setup and modified its Framework for our build. The Frame is actually a cut and shut out of a crashed and written off V8 Race Ute. The newly modified frame. we found the old one was particularly hard to get in and out of, plus we wanted some new mounting points for more screens. Carbon Fibre Cobra Race Seat installed. With adjustable rails of course. Custom Guiher Motorsports Button Box. This has now been revised slightly and has clear, printed labels. 3 BenQ 24inch 1080p screens and Logitech G25 mounted. Left of the seat is the Logitech G25 6 speed H-Pattern shifter, on the right is the Simworx Sequential (bolted to the bottom for rough sequential treatment). PC built; got too excited and gave it a test run with one screen. PC Guts. Specs as above. More cable tidying to come, but as before, just got excited and fired her up. 2 Sticks of RAM had to lose their bright red heat spreaders for the Noctua cooler to fit. Being a bit anal, I was pissed off about this initially, but as it kind of hides the sticks anyway its not so bad. PSU cable tied in; As it is a larger variety a few mounting points didn't line up (not a problem I thought I would have with such a big case) so we zip tied her in for a little more stability. Case doesn't get moved anyway but it might add to the "Race Car " aesthetics. Succesful test run with all 3 screens running at 5760 x 1080p. Here we added the MMG Dash Dispay Unit on top of the steering mechanism and swapped the original steering wheel for an OMP race wheel straight out of a Porsche 997 GT3 Cup Car. The newer Logitech G27 has a similar LED output built into the wheel but we already had a G25 and this gives a little more info. Larger wheel makes the shifter paddles slightly harder to hit at first, but you get used to it. Mainly use the Sequential shifter anyway, feels great getting slamming through the gears. Screen shows Porsche GT3 Cup Car at Bathurst. The completed build. Still have a few nit picky things on the wish list; - 5.1 speaker set up (have a Logitech one ready to go, just need to stop playing and mount it) - Bezel correction for screens/adjust screen angles for optimal peripheral viewing pleasure. - OC that CPU - Cup holder for Drink Driving - Whiteboard for Lap Records. Probably make it fancier than this one at my old share house. But that's it so far! Let me know if you see something I should of done or if you have any questions! X-men: First Class is going to Kick Ass

Just watched it - awesome flick for sure. Plenty of eye candy and they tied everything together pretty well. Save for one part, which bugged me a little... The movie showed Beast in his furry blue appearance. In Xmen 2, Dr Hank McCoy is on TV with a human appearance. Then with Xmen 3 he is blue again. Great action scenes and some genuinely funny moments, I'd definitely recommend catching it at the flicks.
  10. Wired.com's Expendables IP checker Probably not 100% as IPs change etc but not bad for anyone sweating.
  11. Building a new Racing Simulator, just wondering what the best option for a triple monitor setup would be? The GPU world has moved so far since I last looked into it with any detail, so I thought I had better ask people who know more than me. Would like to run games (rFactor/F1 2010/iRace/rFactor 2 etc) at max res over 3 1080p monitors (5760 x 1080) I was looking at this Radeon 5870 Eyefinity 6, however, I don't think gaming at that resolution will be very pretty off just that card. Have tried checking out the AMD/ATI website, and a few reviews, it seems if going a single card, the Radeon HD5970 2GB is probably the best option. However, would it be better to XCrossfire two Radeon HD6870 cards? Is Eyefinity still possible with a xCrossfire 6xxx series setup? The bits and pieces I have read so far don't seem to give a definitive answer. FYI; All the peripherals are already dealt with, so the rest of the build will be as follows CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition...........................$295.00 MOBO: Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD7 Motherboard Rev2................$279.00 RAM: Corsair CMT4GX3M2A2000C8 8GB (4x2GB) DDR3...........$330.00 HDD: Western Digital VelociRaptor 600GB...............................$349.00 PSU: Corsair HX-1000 Power Supply.......................................$279.00 CASE: CoolerMaster HAF 932 Case.........................................$179.00 Total (without GPU):..............................................................$1711.00 The other option I guess is to wait a few weeks and pick up the 6970, and maybe xCrossfire it later on down the track... Any input would be appreciated! Thanks in advance

    Moving Interstate

Cheers everyone! Moving from Tassie back to Queensland, selling my car down here and have bought one up in QLD, so driving up isn't really viable. I even thought about hiring a car for a bit of a road trip and see some family and friends along the way, but apparently when you are in Tassie you cannot take hire cars interstate using the Spirits. I still have the box for my server rig, which is a very simple setup (just a lot of hard drives) so I will throw that in there ready for courier-ing. My gaming rig has a few more fiddly bits and pieces inside so I may contemplate taking it apart before boxing it up and courier-ing it along. At best I will be definitely taking the graphics card out (4870x2) - its (very) heavy and moving around a lot would stress things I would think. The gaming rig's case is a CM690, which seems to be able to take a bit of a beating, but I'll box it up with some towels around it or something and hopefully all should go well. Thanks everyone for your input!

    Moving Interstate

So I am moving interstate soon, and whilst packing all my gear up I realise I have no idea how I am going to transport my two PC rigs. Wrap them up in bubble wrap and put in a box labelled "FRAGILE!" for the furniture removalists? - I did this for cash back in high school, and I know they are not the easiest or most delicate on gear. Get them couriered up to the new placed in said "FRAGILE!" boxes? How have you guys moved your PCs in and around the country?
