  1. Thanks again, Static oh that's not good for PC parts, sort of defeats anti-static parts bags and case earthed wrist straps...:(
  2. Thanks Rybags Will do as per your instructions :) Yes it is getting a bit dirty, I normally get the compressor on it every year in spring but I did miss last years clean... Thanks for the reply cheers ;)
  3. Hi Guys n girls, I'll start with some basic spes 1st.. Oh it's an oldie :) Operating System Windows 8.1 64-bit CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 @ 2.53GHz 43 °C Wolfdale 45nm Technology RAM 4.00GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 399MHz (5-5-5-18) Motherboard Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. G31M-S2L (Socket 775) Graphics ASUS VH222 (1920x1080@60Hz) 1024MB NVIDIA GeForce 210 (Gigabyte) 42 °C Storage 232GB Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB ATA Device (SSD) 25 °C 465GB Western Digital WDC WD5000AAKX-001CA0 ATA Device (SATA) 29 °C 931GB Seagate Expansion SCSI Disk Device (USB (SATA)) 24 °C Optical Drives ATAPI iHAS324 B ATA Device Audio High Definition Audio Device.. Yesterday the PC wouldn't boot and kept getting hung up while trying to post, so fired it up in bios and had a look through. The usual 4 boot options were gone except boot from add in cards (don't have any) WTF! It couldn't see any HDD's. So I set every thing to default settings and tried again, still won't boot. Back to Bios again and this time the drives where there but not on the the same master/slave channels as they should be, checked the boot order and it had Seagate expansion drive as 1st boot then the add in card and then the 2 hdd's :( I changed the boot order to what it should be and it did boot but took a long time doing it!! It was working but still not right and went through everything I knew of and still not right, bios settings moving around by themselves....I gave up and turned it off. But thought later is the battery on the motherboard going flat?? I'll turn off the PC at the back on the PSU and leave it overnight and fire it up the next day to see it it still knows the day - date - time in bios... Yeah time n date still correct so fired it up and all is good again "How"? I brought a CR2032 ready to replace the one on the motherboard just in case but so far it's not needed.. What do you think? Motherboard about to stuff-up or something else to cause this? Working great ATM and booting up quite quickly as normal...

Fire Danger from a PWR supply

just sit there unthought of and powered on for years at a time.Exactly like the ones before this one has always done and I turn off the modem it's self when it's bed time so it's not even powering it and only knew there was a problem when the misses said I tried turning on the wifi this morning and i couldn't get any lights on the modem to come on.. I have never had any fail before...
  5. Hello just wanted to say keep your eye on your plugin power supplies!! I'm sure if we had gone out today I wouldn't be posting this from my house, so long story short no modem working today. Went to check if it was plugged in properly and it was red hot and had obviously failed in a very bad way.. Was the supplied unit for my NetComWireless NB604N 12-14 mths old. Running now from a variable voltage power supply I had in the spare room after testing the voltages of a hand full of spares kicking about..

    Roll Call!

10 Sep 2008 That many all ready wow...
  7. Thanks for that info ;)
  8. I will replace the psu to a seasonic 350w gold as Dasa has recommended.. Also I put every thing in a new case "new" to me a Xion with clear side and blue LEDs ...and a new Cooler Master CPU cooler with a 120mm Fan..
  9. Thanks for the reply to this Chaos.Lady but Nich...has already fixed this for me, thanks again ;)
  10. Thanks sammy_b0i + bowlen+ Dasafor your replies as I couldn't get back into my account to reply!! So an up date is in order, Samsung 840 EVO 120GB + 64Bit Microsoft Windows 8.1 is running nicely. More ram was put in and this has been the best up grade to do so far from the old XP Pro all straight forward and no problems with any drivers..
  11. I too have the same problem and needed to make a new account so I could post this... I also can't PM a mod from this account.
  12. Hello Dasa :) Thanks for that... I think I'll go straight to the Win 7 then as the mb supports and the Win 7 is still a very good os as you said.. I just remembered I have my sisters old pc in the spare room which is identical to mine (I built it for her) and she gone to a lap top, so there's the 2nd hand ram ha ha another 2 Gb... I can get Microsoft MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OEM for $106 and will grab the Samsung 840BW EVO MZ-7TE120BW 120G :) Great.. Sounds good to me yeh.. Hi again Dasa ;) What do they say about the best laid plans of mice n men? No Win 7 OEM, they wouldn't sell it to me %#*% seems Microsoft have have cracked down on the OEM with a HHD and bits n pieces, Must be with a new PC only... Says I won't find Win 7 retail anywhere either, might be lucky if I scour the net.. So I got the Samsung 840 EVO 120GB + Win 8.1 Retail 32/64Bit Microsoft Windows 8.1...$123.00. He said do more research BEFORE you open the box and if you choose to use it once it's opened you can NOT return it.. More Panadol, so 8.1 or nothing then?
  13. Thanks Rybags ;) The graphics card is very "winky" but for what I do it seems to be fine.. It has been pointed out to me that the old set up will run Win 7 and the Gigabyte site says yes also. It should go fine - I'm hoping so.. Thanks also Gunny :) Research happening as we speak + panadol too..
