So, what do you think about the economy?

Of course. But it's also an interesting subject to discuss. The fact that the Govenor made such a big statement this morning, and that the market is down 1.5%, is entirely original and very specific. I didn't offer an opinion because I just don't know. That's why I asked a question. It's the same reason that kiddy fiddling priests shouldn't lecture other people on morality. Everyone else who has posted - except you - has managed to make intelligent, useful on-topic comments. Perhaps you could demonstrate the kind of posting quality you think the rest of us should demonstrate.

    Yeah, ThinkGeek here we come!

Really? The RBA statement this morning, the 1.5% market fall this morning, the double-dip recession forecast, are "inadequate content"...?! It's a helluva lot more content and effort than you put into your response. Given it's more than 5 days since you created a thread - and that thread consisted of posting a cartoon - I think you're not in a real good position to lecture people.
  4. One of the interesting things about the economy at the moment is how starkly different the forecasts are about its future direction. The Reserve Bank Governor has told Parliament today that he think the economy is in recovery, and that the recession was mild. Reading between the lines, he seems to be indicating that interest rates will soon be going up. Yet I keep seeing economic forecasters - local and international - saying that we're in for a double dip, and that the economy will go down again between now and middle of next year. Australia's is the only major economy not in recession. At time of writing, the All Ords is down 1.5% on its opening today. So, what's on your mind about the economy? Up, down, sideways?

Actually, no, you just reconfirmed that you got my opinion and my post 180 degrees bassackwards. Perhaps if you re-read what I wrote, you may avoid a 3rd jump to the wrong conclusion :)

So, what did you do last night?

I wrote a thread with 6 interesting things that I thought people might like to discuss. But it got locked because, in the words of the moderator who locked it, "The Green Room is a place to talk about whatever non-tech topics are on your mind. We don't need a particular thread for just what you happen to be thinking about." I am still trying to work out the difference between "what I happen to be thinking about" and the "topics on my mind" ... and why it's ok to post one but not the other...?

You appear to have interpreted my post bassackwards.

See? Now that's the kind of thoughtful and considered naysaying I can handle.

Hmmm. I never thought of it that way. But I think you may be on to something...

You see that attitude a lot in alt-energy threads. "(Insert alt energy idea here) isn't viable because noone has demonstrated it on a commercial scale yet." Yet the economics of energy - which are incidentally skewed by the Australian Government's subsidisation of coal exports - are changing. And technological advancement continues unabated. Don't tell me to STFU when the sum total of your consideration of a new idea is "it hasn't been done therefore it can't be". Pointing out the idiocy of that "argument" is more than enough contribution in itself.
