    Thanks Obama

Poor Donald...:-( I think he has forgotten that these refugees are all running from wars his country has either started, provoked or supported in some way or another. War on Terror - started by US supporting Al-Qaeda to destabilise the Soviets in Afganistan (CIA Operation Cyclone) eventually Al-Qaeda decided they don't like the US. IRAQ Wars - US originally supported IRAQ in the IRAN/IRAQ wars giving Sadam a decent powerbase to become a pain in the US's arse. Syria - Yanks supported the anti-govenrment rebels. Lybia - Lybian Civil War - UN supported this one, no doubt encouraged by the US Yes each of these wars were probably justified....but it is about time countries who fight wars start stepping up and assist the casualties of these wars.....this includes Australia as each time we have followed the US like little lapdogs begging to be patted.

    This Census

Sounds like an IT stuff up. They load tested it for 1 million users per hour, but failed to realise that peak loading would be over 10 million users per hour during the 'the kids are in bed, lets do this stupid census crap, so we don't get fined' window of about 2 hours between 8pm and 10 pm. A DDOS attack wouldn't have helped things either but they should have expected that with all the media publicity about the privacy issues the changes in the census was raising.

how crap is this government ?

We've already discussed this, eveln. They took an effective cut, as the raise was less than the rate of inflation over the same time. If your employer said "Sorry, eveln, your pay is only increasing by 1% this year." wouldn't you be pissed? Wouldn't you walk out and apply for a job somewhere else? Err....no. Not in the current employment climate. I think you will find that many private sector workers have not had a payrise inline with CPI for ages. The last time I had one in the same role (Mining Electrician at the time) was when JH introduced Work Choices and Individual contracts...the company I worked for offered huge sweetners to entice people to sign over then offed no further rises for the next 5 or so years. Maybe my perception is skewed as I only experienced the view from within the mining industry (during the boom) and other industries were offering huge payrises to entice people to their respective industries but I doubt it.

how crap is this government ?

Why is there an assumption that CEO/Lawyer types would be the best candidates to run the country, or is that just Liberal policy? For many (who would do a much better job, {one look at question time to confirm this}) a MPs salary would be a payrise, and it includes generous entitlements to relocate the family to Canberra for the term served.

how crap is this government ?

Would you do your job if you copped abuse from newspapers, TV, radio and blogs constantly, and the pay was shit and you had to spend your life in airports or in some hole away from your family for 6 months every year? Those are just some of the vested interests I was refering to, the media seem to stir the pot of Australian politics just to improve ratings. Does't help that a lot of pollies are that dodgy the media don't have to look far for ammunition.

how crap is this government ?

I would prefer to have pollies in government that were actually interested in making a difference rather than being in government for the pay. Unfortunately this will never happen in this country, way too many vested interests in all parties.

My kids 4 & 6 (both understand Hot and Cold and know how to use taps) were recently showering at a holiday house when one accidentialy bumped the mixer in the shower all the way to hot with her head. If I was not there to quickly reach into the shower and shut the water off they both would have been scolded quite badly by the hot water. The holiday house had no tempering valve fitted to the HWS and the straight hot water was extremely hot. To help prevent these sort of occurences legislation has been introduced to limit the temperature to 50deg C, you can call this being a nanny state but where do you want to draw the line, what level of carnage is acceptable? Maybe being a sparky has made me more accepting of legislation as I see first hand some of the more dangerous aspects of shonky work not to mention some of the dodgy crap you see coming into the country from China via Ebay that completely fail to meet any sort of electrical safety standards. On a side note the tempering valve will actually give you a slightly higher volume of water from your HWS then the HWS Capacity (not as hot though) as it dilutes the 60+deg water with some to get it to 50deg. And to get back onto the original thread topic, I just purchased a Panasonic DMR-BWT955GL http://www.panasonic.com/au/consumer/home-entertainment/recorders/dmr-bwt955gl.html I am hoping to get it region unlocked at the local Panasonic repairer.

Yeah stopping kids being burnt from scolding hot water is a bad thing. Why dont you bypass your earth leakage while you are at it? The fines can apply to anyone if caught.
