  1. Hi guys, I've had a workmate come to me and ask for a suggestion for a build. Has told me his wife said he has $1k to spend on said build. He only needs a box as far as I've been told. Thus far I've arrived with this from looking around here... and pricing at various mobs Intel i5 4670 Gigabyte GA-Z87-HD3 GTX 650 OC 2GB WD 1TB Blue Antec 520W Modular HCG-520M 8GB Ram Antec one Gaming Case (He chose the case) LG Bluray/DVD combo Price is 930-1060 depending on where I order. He would prefer to buy from one place. Thoughts/Opinions, Keeping in mind it has to be sub $1k so he doesn't get in trouble... Cheers

    Nvidia 660ti OC issues

Ran OCCT a few times with vary lengths. No errors were found and Temps didn't reach anything high, maximum of about 53*C. No crashes.
  3. I purchased a Gigabyte GeForce 660ti late last year. In the last few months I have been having quite a number of issues with it. Everytime I play a game that pushes the card at all it crashes, usually whilst I'm playing BF3, the card crashes the screen goes black, I can still hear the game sounds and my friends tell me that I am still in the game up until I use task manager to end the process. The error I get is usuaully "DirectX function 'GetDeviceRemovedReason' failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG: device hung due to badly formed commands. GPU: 'Nvidia Geforce GTX 660 Ti', Driver 32619" I get this error no matter how far back I roll my drivers. I recently mid June upgraded my system in hopes that it may have been a mobo incompatibility. As such it turns out it wasn't and the same error occurred. I even tried going back to windows 7 with the same error occurring. I then Sent the card back to PCcasegear for a warranty return, apparently a fault was found and "apparently" fixed. I received the card back Monday and the problem is still occuring. I can't even start a game of BF3 and alot of my other games struggle. I Have completed fresh installs of W8. Still to no avail. My system is as follows: Gigabyte GA-Z87X-OC Motherboard Intel Core i7 4770 8GB Corsair XMS DDR3 1333 Thermaltake 775W Toughpower XT WD 1GB Caviar Blue Geforce 660ti Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers :)
  4. I forgot to mention, we tried that this afternoon, didn't really work, the error still happened although I did get a little more gameplay out of it. *** Forgot to mention a couple of things though, the Temps are fine while I've been playing I upped the fan speed and the temps sit between 53-60 while I'm playing. I also have plenty of headroom in my PSU.

    NFS - Underground II

Nostalgia much! So many good hours were spent on this game, all my mates and I used to talk about was this game when it came out. Golf Gti, best car ever!
  6. So last september I upgraded my gfx card to a Gigabyte factory overclocked GTX660ti. Nice card runs everything at full spec, even battlefield 3, but every game and a half I usually get this; " DirectX Function "GetDeviceRemovedReason" failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED. Hardware device removed..GPU: "Nividia Geforce GTX 560", Driver: 30142. This error is usually caused by the graphics driver crashing; try installing the latest drivers. Also make sure you have a supported graphics card with at least 512 MB. " When this occurs the screen freezes, but the game continues to play until I hit ctrl+alt+del and get the task manager up (I can't alt+tab) and end the game. I had windows 7 at the time I got the card and I tried fix after fix after fix, to no avail. So I upgraded to W8 when it arrived, no win. Same error, same shitty bloody error, I've been trying fixes since, and I'm at the point of thinking there may be a fault with the card, my mate has just bought the 3GB iteration of the card and he is not having any issues as of yet. Though mine have become particularly worse of late, I'm lucky if I can get through 2 rounds... My full Specs are Intel i5-750 (old but I'm hanging for the new processors in June) Gigabyte P55-UD3R Nvidia Gigabyte GTX660 TI 2GB Factory OC 8GB RAM 2 x 1TB WD hdd Has anyone got any suggestions?

    What of Atomic?

:( Makes me sad also... I have 5 years worth of Atomic mags, bought my first issue back in August 07 and haven't stopped since. Quite Ironic that I actually was getting PC&TA (pc authority then :P) in 07 till I started getting Atomic :D. So I suppose its like doing a big loop. Thankful the forums are still around! Thanks Hawkeye! But hey at least Atomic shall still be around in one way or another...

Apple knows better than other tech manufacturers

My point, proven. Because, you know, it's fucking impossible that someone chooses a laptop for reasons other than tech specs. Sacrilege! Perhaps I'm a prophet? I foretold a circle jerk, and in response I got a circle jerk. Quite obviously a devout MAC user/fan. ^^ There is plenty of Tech around that looks better than Apple Products. For an informed person it comes down to value for money. I enjoy the contemporary styling of Apple products, but alas they have lost this footing, there are so many other "good looking" pieces of tech out there now and have been for the last 18 months or so. The average consumer is starting to wake up and see value for money, they will 'shop around' and find something that looks quite similar to an Apple Product but offers better specs and is cheaper. Apple has peaked in it's business cycle, it is on the flat plain now, it is where MS was after the release of XP. They need something NEW and Exciting in styling, "SquallStrife" is right in saying the average consumer doesn't really care a great deal about specs. The release of the Nokia and HTC phones that come in various colours will be appealing to those who have iPhones, as it will appeal to them, because they are refined and contemporary, but it will give them more personalisation and choice. Apple are not TOP of the tech world, they do not hold controlling market shares anywhere, not in Phones nor in PC's. They Sell overpriced tech, that looks good.
  9. Thanks for the help guys! Have completed a complete driver cleanout and reinstall, BF3 installation and also worked out that part of the problem was skype. Which there is no apparent fix but to stop using it whilst playing. Purchasing a new Heatsink as well! Cheers! So now I can play for hours, aside from server errors :/
  10. It isn't cold like it is when shes been off for awhile, but it is cool to the touch. When I stress tested it the temps got up to about 80 using Prime95, the fans are pumping. I'm gonna redo the paste anyhow, as I brought it pre-built. Thanks :D I'm gonna keep trudging along.
  11. Yea it has a stock intel cooler. I ran Prime95 and watched the temps let it go for about 5 mins a couple of times and no errors and the temps got up there a bit. I removed all the drivers and started again. I had a 9800GT 1GB. The new one being a factory OC Gigabyte 660ti I did monitor it while I was playing and its running at full the whole time, but theres nothing really out of the ordinary. I usually skype or teamspeak while playing, my mate said that when I drop, the skype call gets quite distorted. And the game tends to freeze then just drop me back to the desktop, and I drop from the Server and EA.
  12. Hey there peeps. So I recently procured a Gigabyte GTX 660ti OC, Thermaltake 775w and a new case and transferred my existing Mobo and such. So I have: Gigabyte P55-UD3R 1156 Intel I5 750 Gigabyte GTX 660ti OC 2GB 8GB DDR3 3X 1TB WD Blue Thermaltake 775w So Since upgrading I've had battlefield crashing to desktop, the game is still running but it crashes to the desktop and I have to use Task Manager to end the process. I have tried Lowering the ingame GPU settings, Fiddling in the nVidia Control Panel, Increasing Fans Speeds, Rolling back drivers. Everything short of a fresh install. BUT I have found that my CPU runs quite hot [around 50 degrees Cel] when NOT under load, thus it increases to about 60-80 under load. I figure this temp issue may be the root of my problems. Any suggestions/help? Cheers !
  13. Cheers Guys, I did end up reaching out to that GTX670, should last me a little while. I'm a bit partial to nvidia, suppose we're all suckers for brands somewhere along the line.
  14. Hi guys! I need a little help, Currently I have a 9800GT which is limping me along at the moment. I wasn't looking to go for a full system upgrade until after xmas... But alas I am Buying a new Graphics Card and PSU as I need them. Anyhu, The Gigabyte GTX660 Ti OC is PCI-E 3.0 but my Mobo Gigabyte P55-UD3R is only PCI-E 2.0 Is it backwards compatible and/or would I be better to just do a Full Upgrade? Cheers Smivvy
