Your saying I need torx screw drivers?

Replacing a HDD on a unibody aluminium MacBook, it's the best of fun at the most of times and now on top of this I need torx bits to get the mounting posts off? Brilliant work Apple! Is there another way to get these screws off? Or is there a good substitute screw I can use... hrrm....

I find the race to see what can be crammed into the "optibay" of a MacBook Pro rather interesting. This isn't really anything new when it comes to expansion limited Macs, some of us might even remember the PCI slot on 1st revision imacs, or installing PC cards into certain Mac models so as you could boot your Mac into a Windows systems without horrible programs such as VirtualPC. Well now one company has taken this step further and released an ARM cpu that fits in the "optibay" of your MacBook Pro and in theory many other systems out there. The focus of this article is for battery saving purposes e.g. booting up into the cloud using something like Chrome OS to gain access to google docs and work on your office documents if your stuck in a situation where you don't have access to power and are running short on battery charge. However that is just one possible application. The ability to run Chrome, Android OS, possibly even iOS or an ARM based Linux distro sees that there will be multiple possibilities for a device such as this. The downside however is that you give up your optibay and more as likely than not void your warranty. http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/14/cupp-cr...inpage_engadget

Well, I'm not disagreeing with you medication does work for some people. What I will say is that at least one of those drugs made me absolutely flat that was Lexapro, and that took me quite some time for my levels of emotions to return to something resembling normal. I've tried a few other SSRI and SNRIs, I've also tried tetracyclics which worked reasonably well in lower doses but made me feel vile as soon as I started upping the dosage. I've been on the medication merry go round and it doesn't particularly work for me. I am, mostly, fine these days. I've chosen other paths, CBT being one of them, mindfulness and awareness another, a better diet/lifestyle and less work/life stress are among yet others. And yeah, I've dealt with this stuff for at least 10 years, so have a reasonable amount of experience, I've also seen a few scary things in hospitals at times. I trust your experience, I'm just really talking from personal experience about what hasn't worked for me and another person I knew. Your a trained medical practitioner though and I'm just a person, I'm not trying to subvert your level of qualification.

Me and medication don't see eye to eye scruffy, nor do I with docs that have an attitude of "here take these pills you'll be right mate". I would also rather not feel like I've consumed nothing other than a concoction of chemicals that makes me violently ill, or have no feelings at all... sure the anxiety might disappear and sometimes the depression and helplessness that comes with it, but as does feelings of being happy, sad, or in between. I've learned to deal with it mostly naturally, some changes in lifestyle, some psychology. As for nose bleeds and fevers, I was talking of the milder kind. No need to twist my words there and yes I do believe mental health is a serious issue and that crisis units are an important part of hospitals when the shit hits the fan and people like myself can't cope.

It's very hard to explain when the only real "sensation" you have some times is "I am going to die, this must be what dieing feels like, I don't feel safe in my own body right about now" couple that with intense chest pains, numbness/pins and needles, dizziness, an irregular/racing heart beat, etc... I have the intestinal fortitude sometimes to tell myself that none of the sensations I am feeling are real and can sit there mostly quietly, or pace around an emergency ward, but that's only come through learning about what goes on when I have attacks like that and knowing I'm almost probably not going to keel over and die right there and then. That said sometimes I just don't feel safe sitting around at home dealing with shit like that. As messed up as the above sounds and some may chose to call me a certain variety of cake, I probably don't have it as bad as some other people, my risk of self harm is fairly low, but that's what annoys me, knowing what other people like myself but with more serious mental health issues go through only to be turned away as low priority at triage. But yeah, coming back to debilitating, it pretty much stops me from doing anything relatively normal at the worst of times, I failed a unit at university just because I couldn't get my head around what I was going through and it stops me from actually going out and doing normal stuff like going to shops, talking to people, or working, etc... so yeah, debilitating is one word for it. I've learned to live with it as best as one can but that doesn't mean its not debilitating.

That's actually a cool idea Rob, an ARM CPU for most day to day tasks, but having a real CPU if you need it as well. Kind of like laptops that have on-board video as well a dedicated GPU. In fact it could be done for desktop PC's as well. The problem really is a lack of software support for ARM CPU's with a desktop OS unless you're planning on running Linux. Both Apple and Microsoft basically have ARM versions of their OS, if you count iOS as a version of OS X, there's just not a lot of support for a desktop version yet. Having used iOS though I can't say I could get used to using it as my primary desktop on a day to day basis, and tend to think it would be a bit hard to use on a day to day basis for my primary machine. In saying that however I'm sure Android/iOS/Chrome will only become better to use on a day basis if products such as this gain popularity.

Embarrassing Simple Things You Dont Know How to Do

That's easy, quantify it... you know how long a football field is right? Well that's 100 metres, 90 metres for American football. As for myself, I still forget my left and right sometimes until I gain my bearings again. I didn't learn to tie my shoes laces until I was about 10 or 11, and I never worked out gladwrap until i was about 18 odd... Assuming you're talking about soccer here, an aussie rules footy ground is more than 100m. Yeah, AFL generally makes do with cricket fields as it was originally a sport designed to keep cricketers fit in the off season as far as I'm aware. I am well north of the magical AFL line in the sand though.

To the people without real medical issues, get the fuck out of the emergency wards and either A) Find a 24 hour doctor OR B) Wait until the morning I have had real, sometimes serious fucked up, I'm going to die, debilitating, mental health issues related to anxiety/depression and get sick and tired of waiting behind someone who has a fever or a nose bleed because I might be able to restrain myself and not show any outward symptoms in a waiting room so as not to disturb everyone else in it. From experience the triage system rarely works for those with mental health issues even when I've gone to the only hospital near me that has a mental health care ward. A friend of my brothers tried to get help from that same hospital but ended up killing himself instead.

Embarrassing Simple Things You Dont Know How to Do

Asking geeks how long a football field is let alone visualise one is assuming the wrong geeks. im mildly displeased that it is assumed "Everyone" knows how long a football field is and this example is drummed up everytime someone asks.also, is this AFL, Soccer, or some other type of football. I do not know how to weld. Football field was the first analogy, pretty much anything that isn't an oval is about 100 metres. Rugby Union/Leauge, Football [soccer], American Football if you count the end zones, etc are all about the same length as they all come from the same sport originally. Someone else said swimming pool, well that's either 25 metres or 50 metres if it's a proper half olympic/olympic pool. I guess you're right though, the only sport a lot of geeks would understand is LAN games, especially on a forum like this. That's the thing though, I don't qualify myself as being a real geek.

T-Shirt and shorts bellow the knees... it's far to hot for much else in Queensland. I do like wearing long sleeve shirts but not when it's over 28 degrees out.

APT vs APT-RPM... Mandriva is still an RPM based distro. I know you're gonna tell me APT is a package managment system and that packages in the case of Mandriva are RPMs I still like to differentiate between the two.

    My 1961 EK holden

Cars are shits of things, I just spent 3/4 of the morning replacing a bump strip on my car as the screws on the other one rusted through and it fell off. I had noticed it but forgotten about... no yay for 80's crap boxes. If there's one thing I hate more than most other things it's working on cars... not mentioning the $17 for a can of bumper black to match the rest of the bump strips on my car. It's really the last thing I felt like doing on my last free day off. Oh well, I fixed it good and proper... pulled another one off a wreck, rust converted the back of it and primed it before getting round to the front and putting a new coat of paint on it to match the car. It'll be another few more years if that ever rusts through by which time I'll be rid of this car and have a decent job. The joys of being a uni student and having to fend for yourself. If I asked a panel beater to do the same he'd probably smile and say a couple hundred bucks in my time and labor.

    Hurt

Did we forget this, or not get this far? All of this suggests a much bigger picture and a possibility that Xap in her current state is misunderstanding what is going on. On the other hand, being put between a rock and a hard place means it seems Xap doesn't have much of a choice, or doesn't want to see an alternative. The above post muddies the waters considerably and despite the fact that this is a fellow forum member i'm not really sure what side of the fence to be sitting on. As has been sugested by someone else here it appears Xap has her own dramas, the root cause of this problem could simply be the fact that Xaps boyfriend feels under-appreciated. Does this condone his actions? Not really, however dealing with someone who is venting their own serious health problems is never a walk in the park. I know as I have my own. My best piece of advice in saying as much is to tread carefully before the relationship becomes destructive and if one or either party needs an out they should do it amicably before flirting leads to cheating, or Xaps mental health reaches a crisis point.

Taking the boy out of boisterous

An interesting article and well worth a read. The author puts forward the argument that we are providing to much pharmaceutical therapy to young males, suggesting that typically male behavior is being curbed after being seen as some how wrong. The wider implication is that men are becoming to effeminate and that the causation for this is wide spread diagnosis of anti-social behavior disorders, as well as anxiety disorders leading to an over supply of prescription drugs such as Ritalin to children in an effort to stop this behavior. If I were to draw a long bow I'd suggest the author is making a point that men have been pussy whipped and had their balls put in a draw. Just personally I suffer from anxiety disorders and know how crippling real the effects of anxiety can be, however I tend to agree and think we've gone a little overboard with pharma therapy in order to alleviate "problems" which in the past would have been non-existent. You might have said someone was difficult but you wouldn't have said they had ADHD. http://www.smh.com.au/opinion/society-and-...tml?from=smh_sb

I don't want this to sound harsh but it is what it is, grow a pair of balls and tell her how you feel. A letter is just going to weird her out. You take your shot, she says no, fair enough, she says yes, bonus! It really is that simple and by tell her how you feel, I mean ask her out on a date. No bullshit, no commitments. You don't win the dating game by going from zero to hero.

I'm not experienced enough to comment on it, some of the people I go to uni with say that there is a huge proportion of kids on medications. She's a child care worker and would have quite a decent idea. I haven't seen to much of it myself.

    Favourite Swear Words.

Sorry man, didn't intend to come off as smart-aleky, or as curt, as it may seem I did in my reply to you (I;ve a passion for the Greek language... my enthusiasm for it may sometimes cloud the way in which I wish to convey a meaning). Depending on context, your grandmother was right on. In terms of actual blasphemous rhetoric, there is no reference to anything point to the divine, in and of itself. Most greek grand/parents hold that particular word in high taboo. If I have offended you in the slightest, in my replies, I apologise profusely. Cheers man, Nick Meh, I'm not that thin skinned, I could have had a better handle on the language myself, unfortunately my dad never really bothered to put the effort in to teach me the language properly and I've had a hard time finding anywhere decent to learn it myself.

Is there a Gas Plumber in the house?

I'm still not getting how the turbine would spin and start the pilot light if there was a blockage... As Chris was saying there is a blockage somewhere, when you drop the water pressure whatevers blocking it seats itself, when you turn the tap on again afterwards there's enough pressure to unblock it. It seems however that you don't have enough water pressure to keep it unblocked. The same concept might apply if you've got any crap stuck in your gas jets.
