Star Citizen / Squadrdon 42 - a real PC game

Yeah that's what I hear as well and I'm not surprised and to be honest it doesn't bother me at all, a universe of this fidelity and density is going to come at a price ans that cost will be HD space and a computer that can run it at an acceptable level. My FSX install is over a 100Gb so I know what thats like and hard drives aren't that expense so bring it i say :)
  2. ah thanks people, this is exactly the kind of advice I was chasing, I'm still pretty keen on keeping a duel card set up for the large amount of other non sim games I play im still thinking team green for the time being. Ah so many options, to wait for maxwell, to jump in now and get a couple of 780's ( which in leaning towards ) switch to ATI. ah I do love being a PC gamer :) Your not wrong about arma 3 being very poorly optimised , I figured my rig would almost run it at full tilt everything but its not the case, most of the settings are pretty high but its that damn distance slider that drags things down, hopefully they iron it out but I got a feeling it's more of a game engine thing and can probably only be tweaked so much, shame cause it's an absolutely amazing game.

God damn I'm excited for the DFM, I've got an Origin 325a Fighter but I keep eyeing off the RSI Constellation, it's not cheep but damn it'd be a nice stylish ride, insurance would have to be a must though. does anyone have one, is it worth the price? Between this and Elite I don't think 'll see the light of day especially if I spoil myself with that DK 2 rift I've been eyeing off. The future come at me!
  4. Thanks gents for the replies, ah Frunj na I'm running 1440p 60hz so it's not 4K but does require a little more power then normal to keep it all smooth and the 680's do do it well for the most part, I'm a massive flight sim fan and not many of those are very well SLI optimised unfortunately so they end up normally running on one card most of the time which brings things down a little, this is slowly changing in the flight sim software world but it's taking time. That said I do like the ability to run other stuff full tilt ( BF4, ARMA 3 that sort of stuff ) and silky smooth. I hadn't even considered ATI to be honest as last I checked their crossfire isn't as well optimised as SLI (is this still the case?) and I am kinda keen on 2 cards if possible, if they've ironed out the kinks maybe it is time to switch teams back to red. Any ball park when the Maxwell stuff starts seeing the light of day though? if nothing else it'll drop the prices of the 700 series so even if I don't go for a Maxwell card it might make the other option a little more attractive ( read cheaper! ) p.s. and thanks for the avatar help!
  5. G'day guys and girls, the deal is I got a bit of cash coming in soon and I'm wondering what the best bang for buck is GPU wise cause I might use some of it to upgrade my current beasty rig. At the moment I'm running duel 680's in an i7 3930k Oc'd to 4.6 and 32gb of corsair 1866 Ram and to be honest it runs pretty damn well, but since I have some cash coming in I thought I'd maybe upgrade to future proof my rig a bit, this is the first upgrade I'l be doing to this rig so I wanna do it right if I do it at all, I don't think I'll really have a bottle neck anywhere else in the system so I figure I should really try to do it right. Basically the options I'm looking at are either just jumping straight onto the overboard train and get 2 x 780's, these look particularly good, pricey but good Gainward 780 goodness the other options are either maybe 2 x 770's not sure which ones yet but I wonder if the jump in performance will be enough to justify the cost or.... I could get a single 780ti, possibly something like this EVGA 780 classified and just get back into the simplicity of not having to worry about making sure my SLI is running correctly and the rest of the hassles that sometimes come from running a duel card set up, I know it definitely won't perform like 2 x 780's but really it should till run like a demon it pretty much all situations, right?........ or will it again not be a huge jump from duel 680's. I've tried to read up about it all as much as possible but there are a lot of different opinions so I thought I'd ask you guys for your opinion. The money isn't coming in for about a month so I've got a bit of time to figure what I'm gonna do but a little guidance would be super appreciated. Cheers Ross p.s. as i side note does anyone know how to upload an avatar pic, everytime I try to do it it fails and tells me to contact an admin and I don't know know who they are :/ the pic is resized correctly and all that but no go :(

    Anyone played GRID 2 yet?

Yeah I'm curious too, it works perfectly with my G27, it even lets me use it with the H-shifter and clutch which I love. Had it for about 3 weeks and really do enjoy it, it's definitely no iRacing but to ne honest I like it for that too, just a bit quick fun, it's pretty good online as well, quiet competitive. I'd very much recommend it to those who want a bit of silly racing fun .

    Best Gaming Headset! 2012 June

Really? I've rad that the sound is quiet good as long as you use it for games only, definitely not a music set, which isn't a problem for me as I got a proper dedicated set for beats and recording, gotta do a little more research about em maybe. bad mic eh :/ could be a deal breaker. Some reading about em I guess, might see if I can find a pair at a shop somewhere I can listen to.

    2560 x 1440, Worth the hassle?

I've an 23" ASUS at the moment, and while it's pretty good, I find it has a small amount of ghosting on the screen, it's only really visible at certain times times over certain colour backgrounds, I'm oversea's atm and can't for the life of me can't remember what model it is though. This looks like it could be the goods, great res, it has a lot of input options and comes with a shitload of and cables as well, pretty handy, the sumsung seems a little light on imputs. ASUS PB278Q there's almost to many options, sumsung stuff's alwasy been pretty good for me in past if not a little pricey although the ASUS does have more inputs which could be handy down the line.

    2560 x 1440, Worth the hassle?

Cheers hitman, I'm definitely sold on the higher res, I'm looking forward to seeing how BF3 and some of my flight, racing, soldier sims, shit all my games really look at that res, the only problem I really foresee is that's there's no going back once I'm used to it !

    2560 x 1440, Worth the hassle?

Yeah I see what you mean, going by that graph the 7970 looks amazing, I was leaning towards Nvidia cause I used to be an ATI guy but my last few GPU were Nvidia and they were just amazing I had the 490 then the 580 which were both fantastic cards, plus I find the driver and software a lot better to play around with, also annoyingly some of the flight sims I play lean towards Nvidia as far as performance and providing support for SLI n such, but not so much for CF. I've heard about a 4 gb 680 which would help future proof it to a certain extent, although maybe it's time to have a harder look again at ATI, well Dasa you've thrown a spanner in the works in the planning for this rig haha but in a good way of course, it's always good to have real options :) Well time to do some more research on this.

    2560 x 1440, Worth the hassle?

Ah cheers for the reply Dasa, it sounds like the res isn't something that shouldn't be too much of a problem to get around with a little fiddling in the config files, worse comes worse I can just run it in a smaller window like you said. Yeah 2 x 680's seems like a little overkill I know but I'm trying to future proof it as much as I can since it's going to be me ultimate rig, hopefully I won't have to change the initial configuration for a while. Plus if a game doesn't support SLI I can still throw a single 680 at it and it should run it pretty well albeit at a lower res worst case scenario. Cheers again.
  15. G'day all, I thought I ask you guys about this one a I'm a little stumped about it, I'm getting a new rig in about a month and a thought I might spoil myself to a new monitor to go with it for shits n gigs. I was looking at this one in particular Samsung 27 inch goodness I like the Idea of having the ability of a much higher native resolution but I was thinkin that it may cause problems, I know pushing that kind of res is gunna take more power but I'm getting duel 680's in my new beast so that shouldn't be a problem I think, it's more the ability of games to use that res, I'm a bit of a flight sim buff and I play some older ones ( IL-2 1946 n such ) and wondered if it'll be a real hassle to get older games to use it? I imagine all new games would use it no problem at all, right ? Also if there's any other unexpected hassle from using a higher res then normal that anyone has run into that I might not have thought of. Any help would be muchly appreciated. Cheers gents :)
