    Xonar Essence ST/X

Do you think they will bring a whole new/updated range out (DG 2) along with the STX 2?

  3. Sometimes when i turn my PC on it doesnt start. When i take the plug out of the wall adapter and when i put it back in theres a spark where the plug goes into the adapter and the PC fires up from that spark...

    Is this a PSU problem?

I havnt checked the capacitors but, Its working back to normal now, i also didnt change the bios. I went to look for the bios battery and jumper, couldnt find it and couldnt be bother taking it all apart (at that moment) to see if it was behind the heatsink. Then later on, my headphone jack broke off and is stuck in the mobo sound output. Took out the gfx card to get to it easier from inside, didnt workout. (oh well, this gives me a reason now to get that Asus STX i want :D) I put gfx back in and gave the pc a spray over with canned air now its working But i already did all this same stuff a few weeks ago when it was playing up then aswell, so i dont know.

    Is this a PSU problem?

It seems to be getting worse now, and that hold the power button down trick to drain the power isnt working anymore. Whats the best way to reset Bios? My manual says to "Load Optimized Defaults" I did that but its still the same (latest) Bios version. So that must be just for the Bios settings. Should i update it to an older bios vers. and then update it again back to the latest? or should i reset CMOS or something?

    Is this a PSU problem?

I meant my power button, i dont have a reset button. I did that drain thing last night after i turned it off and it worked, it even flashed its blue light after 5 secs telling me it was drained. Turned it on just now and it works fine. Thanks So to stop me from having to do this all the time i reset bios and update it again?

    Is this a PSU problem?

It happened again, i forgot to power drain after i turned it off, but i did this when it didnt turn on again: Switched off PSU Switched off Plug in wall, left it in. Held down reset to drain power Still didnt work. I havnt tried the reset of mobo bios yet, but i have reinserted the GPU and RAM recently. It was doing the same thing before i touched those. Maybe the adapter is abit stuffed

    Building a PC for Mum

Done! Thanks Dasa! I wont switch the case tho, it has a pre-order status (cant wait, plus ill throw in some $ for her bday) She'd prefer a mini case but it was just too much for me to take in with the limited stock and understanding.. (frikkin PCIe/mini PCIe, SO-DIMM/U-DIMM, ATX/ITX/mini ITX/Micro ATX ahhhhh!!) She was going to buy a $545 with worse parts (1333 Ram, 500GB HDD, etc.) Awesome! Thanks again guys!

    I think ive decided with either this or the NUC above: CPU: Intel PENTIUM G3220 3.0GHz/3MB CACHE/LGA1150 $75 MOBO: Asus H81M-E 2xDDR3 PCI-E 2xSATA3 2xUSB3.0 DVI D-SUB $64 RAM: G Skill 4G(2x2G) DDR3 1600Mhz PC12800 9-9-9-24(CL9D-4GBNQ $59 SSD: Samsung 120GB SSD 840 EVO SATA III 6Gbs $109 PSU: SeaSonic 350W OEM V3 80Plus Gold PSU $69 CD/DVD: Pioneer SATA DVR221L Black OEM $25 CASE: NZXT H230 USB 3.0 White Mid Tower(NO PSU) $89 $490 Or the NUC? $599

Ok so i have to add those parts into the NUC? I cant see where you found these: G.Skill 4GB DDR3-1600 1.35V SODIMM F3-1600C9S-4GRSL $58 Samsung mSATA 120GB SSD 840BW EVO $135 I found these tho: Intel SSD 120GB 525 Series, mini PCIe, mSATA 6Gb/s, 25nm, MLC, read/write speed 550 MB/s, 500MB/s $159 G.Skill 8GB Single Channel DDR3-1600 SODIMM [sQ] F3-1600C10S-8GSQ $89 or Corsair CMSX4GX3M1A1600C9 4GB (1x4GB) Vengeance Performance Memory Module DDR3 1600MHz CL9 SODIMM $59 The Corsair says its for 2nd generation... the intel box is 4th gen, does that matter?

    Building a PC for Mum

I just realised how tiny this case is and that its got its own PSU and Seasonic probably wont fit Will its own PSU be enuff for what i have?

    Building a PC for Mum

Thanks for the awesome response. I need to build this quick cause she need it soon. I came up with this, using what was available on the umart site, and what i thought was good along with the most popular choices/reviews: Intel i3 4130 $137 Asus H81l-Plus $109 (This is the cheapest mini mobo instock) G skill 4GB (2x2) CL9D-4GBNQ DDR3 1600MHz $59 (review said: has no cooling fins, good for mini tower) Maybe Corsair is better? Case: Antec ISK110 VESA Mini-ITX Case 90-watt adapter , 2 x 2.5" internal drive bays, Included VESA mount (she likes this one from what was available) $88 Samsung 120GB SSD 840 EVO (damn, intel out of stock) $109 Samsung SATA Black Internal DVD/RW Drive $21 SeaSonic 350W OEM V3 80Plus Gold PSU $69 =$592 So far: Not sure if i3 is overkill, im leaning to no? Not sure what the diff is between Asus H87I-PLUS $134 and Asus H81l-Plus $109 but im thinking the $109 one is fine. Not sure if the case comes with a PSU and if Seasonic even fits the case Not sure about PSU wattage, seems 350 is fine by your posts Not sure if i should choose Corsair Ram instead. Not sure if everything goes together. I think her budget is ok at 600ish
  20. Im browsing the telstra site for broadband, it says for my address "Great news, you can get Cable broadband" So im going to get this. It gives me the option to buy their moderm, or not... I dont know what the difference is Between ADSL2+ and Cable broadband, but do they use the same modems? The Telstra one offered is something like a "Cable Home Network Gateway 3.0 DLNA Certified®" for an extra $72 If the telstra cable modem is the same as an ADSL2+ modem, arnt i better off getting something better for a little more money and possibly NBN compatibility?

    Telstra Offered Cable Modem

Cable net isnt phone line? So im guessing i have to pay for the cable line installation... Cable net is faster or about the same as ADSL2+ right? EDIT: nvm, telstra says "This means you'll enjoy the fastest speed available in your area." I just need to call up see how much its going to cost to install this cable. Thanks

    Telstra Offered Cable Modem

    Xonar Essence ST/X

Ok, im convinced now. Xonar DG $30-$40 you saved me money :D Right now im getting an annoying buzz from my headphones connected to my monitor, connected to my realtec HD on board sound. This should probably go too, judging from peoples comments on the product. Bonus :D
