    Sound card died again

Depends on the headphones you’re driving. My on board is ok for most but not for one pair. If it’s just for listening purposes then a nice dac/amp combo is good.

    What a joke

There have to be rules in place for such an entity to exist. They wiuld have to impact, in some ways, how your country is run. It would be naive to think it would work otherwise. Other than that though, it hasn't taken over any country in the way you are alluding to. You can see from Brexit that any country is free to leave if they don't like the terms of membership. You can also see from Brexit that most countries won't want to leave completely but like most cases you always want the positive aspects without the responsibilities and hang ups. It's biggest problem is it's complexity of differing individual countries and all having their own sovereignty/culture/history/economic challenges. If it were to run like a country with complete control like states it would be much smoother but to the detriment over all of the individual identity of each existing country. So it's a more difficult proposition given less time and a greater worldwide scrutiny than the USA ever got. So if any country thought it was just freedom to roam and a unified currency then a: stupid and b: free to leave if they don't like the terms and really don't think the benefits outweigh the costs.

    What a joke

I'm just saying the USA took something like 130 years from first state to last state (not including the non contiguous late comers). And it was hardly peaceful. And plenty of people didn't want to join. It's a bit rough to give the EU 26years and then deem it some Hodge podge that can't ever work compared to a country that took that many times as long and doesn't have the same language/culture/history barriers.

    What a joke

Ye gods, it's getting hard to be sure at times Which happened overnight? They all agreed at the same time and didn't take years to agree and there was no fighting about the right way in the mean time?

    What a joke

I think you'll find that Nich... Could substitute any number of states having their people go to WA for the mining boom. Not really meant to be a slight on Tasmania. I thi k the point is about arbitrary borders and which ones matter and why. Why one is legal and one isn't especially with the "taking our jobs" argument. Tasmania is just a place that is a bit weak on jobs at the moment.

    What a joke

I'm enjoying this line of questioning. Ev, Nich... Seems to be asking why people crossing state borders to leave Tasmania for work is different to other refugees from around the world choosing Australia to come to apart from it just being the law. Is the law an arbitrary divide? Are the laws just? Should they, in your opinion, be tightened so those Taswegians have to go back to where they come from. Chrisg, of course people go to Tasmania to retire but that is not the question. That is people going there when they already have money, not those dirty young south Island people who come and take the jobs of hard working people in other states.

Could the Democrats please wake up ?

I don't see how these primaries are healthy for a party. At least not the way they are done. Tearing down another person in your party who may well be the candidate you need to later endorse just seems crazy.

...and another mass shooting in America...

Which brings my point full circle in a way. If you think the gun nuts follow you and you believe in yourself as a leader then you probably aren't worried about them being armed and maybe see it as a positive.

...and another mass shooting in America...

I'm thinking more about their president. He seems like a guy with a lot of self belief.

...and another mass shooting in America...

Maybe it says mire about how much you believe yourself to be an effective leader and the people to be sheep?

...and another mass shooting in America...

Probably not when you appeal to the sorts of people who like powerful gun collections. More people with guns who have your back.
