    interesting reading nobody, thanks for the link. dammit amd, why always shoot yourself in the foot. I might end up grabbing some if they are too noisy for others and they sell em cheap, will water cool it and overclock the shit out of it. :) they have such a great card, they just need a less shit cooler. now they might end up losing a large chunk of sales to team green until decent third party coolers are available.

    i'm hoping to pick one up cheap, now that they are $300 new, second hand will be even cheaper as everyone jumps on the new cards. 2x 7970 still > even a 780ti so it will keep me happy and my wallet happy too.

    If you can stretch the budget to about $350, you can get some of the cheap korean 27" screens which do 2560x1440. I haven't tried them myself, but I've read a lot of good things, there is about a 50 page discussion thread on ocau if you're a member there. (edit: just realised they only do DVI do might be a shit idea, ignore me. ) You might also be able to get a second hand U2711 for about that price, just another option. Just need to make sure your PC can handle 1440p or it might not be worth it, in which case just get a 1080p screen. From the link to PCCG you posted, the benq looks pretty decent.

    the memory seems to run really low compared to the 7970 for example, i've been able to run the memory on my card at around 7750mhz without any issues, compared to just 5000mhz on the 290x, however the 290x is 512-bit so I wonder if that's what they are having trouble with? Am I correct in saying the 2900xt was the last 512bit amd card, and what a piece of crap it was. I can't believe I wasted $500 on one. Looking forward to seeing if there is any more room to move on water with these.

    What are you playing at the moment?

    I never did play much Dark Souls but i heard so many good things, I think I will grab it next time it's reasonable priced on steam. My girlfriend was looking for new co-op games to play, so this might be fun. I had a LAN with some guys at work over the weekend, we played about 15 hours of BF4 online, running around as a squad. Rank 1-10 was terrible but now that I've unlocked a lot of things, having more fun with it. I've also played through 5 of the 7 campaign levels, and was surprised at how much I actually enjoyed it. Playing on hard but it wasn't actually very hard, would be good to get a very hard or something. Highly recommended though, even if it's a bit short.

    Path of Exile

    i haven't played much of this since around christmas last year, but I just loaded it onto steam last week, now that it's released there, and will probably give it another go whenever i run out of things to play, i never did get a chance to play act 3 yet :) I am glad to see this game is seeing a lot of success, it deserves it. To re-iterate my thoughts on this game, i love it. the level of customisation this game offers is sorely lacking in most games. the passive tree is great, I specifically like that any class can play any way, using any skills, and any items. you could have a 2h melee witch or a spell casting barbarian with lots of HP and blood magic, just simple examples to illustrate the flexibility, I know for a fact there are some very cool builds people have come up with. I like the orbs, I like the skill gems, I like the 'darker' feel to it than diablo 3 had, and the fact that the bosses are not so idiotic and cliche. I'm still bitter about how badly blizzard ruined diablo 3 so I will leave my comments at that. I agree with Ihsan, I don't think they should allow skill resets. It's just how the game is meant to be played. spend your points carefully, and you should be fine, but you will always think of a 'better' way you could have done it, and that's part of the re-play value. or you could just try a different character class/style/combo and will probably make less mistakes, but still find ways to improve your build.

    i have the exact opposite problem, chrome is fine for everything i've ever tried, like my nas and my cloud server, and all of my work servers, however internet explorer always tries to bing search local addresses, even if they are correct. I've never used freenas, but does it have a default port that it runs on? I thought most web applications would run on a specific port, even if it's port 80 it may help to specify.

    so i found out you can now use arcstat with zfs on linux, as of a recent update.     freenas might not be as bad as i thought, but I personally still probably wouldn't use it. my n40l also hosts a minecraft and a wow server for example. well, it did but then I moved it to my cloud server, but I like the options to do whatever I want, not whatever is supported. http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php...nes-Setup-Guide

    i got nexenta certified at my old work, it's pretty nice for a nas exclusive device, same with freenas, good for nas only, but I wouldn't recommend it if you want to do other things too. I would recommend some form of linux, just so you can easily add any other features as required.

    Just get a pair of water blocks to go with it, then you have power and silence. I had to go a week with my GPU on air recently, was the worst week of gaming i've had recently. The noise of a fan spinning up is so annoying. I have become used to silence and GPU temps under load at 30-40% OC and temps below 40C.
