The boys from Brazil.
For some reason I didn’t seem to have the pace in qualifying I was looking for and was slower than my offline practice times. I was trying to run on primes but with Fredz showing some speed and Ploddy on options I switched to options for my last run.
Starting second and ahead of SOJ I didn’t want to cause an international incident by taking someone out. So I hung back off Ploddy but he made a mistake going into turn 12 and I inherited the lead. I did have Fredz all over me for the first few laps and he was on for a fight. By lap 3 Ploddy was back in second and closing the gap, I knew I didn’t have the speed to hold him off and on lap 11 he took a dive down the inside into turn 4 but ran wide and I was back in the lead. I was not confident that my tyres would last till lap 15 so at the end of lap 11 I decided to pit and take on primes. I was still in two minds if I would stop again for a sprint at the end or just make the primes last.
Came out in 6th position after the stop with my team mate ahead off me, I didn’t want to fight him and loose us both time but he had good pace and by the time I got into a position to have a go he pitted. Now on lap 15 and I had Toggsie ahead of me, again he had good pace and it look a bunch of laps before I could get close enough to make a pass. I managed to undercut Ploddy by stopping early which surprised me but with Pessi holding Toggsie up I knew things were going to get messy soon enough.
On lap 17 Pessi ran wide and toggsie and myself got by, it was a bit tight but clean enough I think. On lap 18 I had a big go down the straight to get past and squeezed by but toggsie took the corner and I was right up his hammer for the rest of the lap. Right I was getting by on the next lap no matter what and set myself for the battle. I turned the fuel up and used KERS and DRS to get past down the straight and held the inside line into turn 4, job done but I think Toggsie had already done a job on me. Great driving and a fun few laps, he held me and Ploddy up enough to give SOJ the gap he needed.
Now on lap 23 and Ploddy right up behind me he used DRS and KERS to get by down the straight and I didn’t fight him into turn 4 as I k new my tyres were a few laps older and he had the pace from the start to make it stick. I hoped he would get back in touch with SOJ and could fight for the win as SOJ was about 4 sec ahead.
I got the feeling that Ploddy was just holding station as we lapped about the same pace for 10 laps with around a 1-2 seconds gap and I’m sure he was disappointed not to be fighting SOJ. On lap 33 I got a message that he had extra fuel in reserve and I guess he turned it up as he pulled away in the final laps to take 2nd with me 3rd and my team mate 4th which I’m not sure how this occurred as I saw the 4th place spot change a few times between 3 drivers over the last few laps. Would love to see the video of that one.
So overall a good race with clean driving buy everyone and some great pace to boot.
I would like to thank everybody for a great season of fun racing and it just goes to show that even with the bubble effect of F1 2012 we still managed to race cleanly. I hope we all race together again for 2013 as I love the F1 tracks.
One other note is I must thank my team mate Millen for the season and sorry I couldn’t do all the races. Hope we team up again soon.
