    Attacks in Paris

You didn't watch it, did you? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXUZjyZVj6s Listen to it and get educated, code. Actually listen to the source for once rather than your dimwit friends on FB.

Yup. This was always going to be their undoing. With al-Qaeda you had to bomb the general areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan and hope you had good intel. With Daesh, if you hit Raqqa and Mosul there's a good chance you're going to do serious damage.

Sad part is it'll probably be a bunch of Sikhs who end up paying the price because some fuckwit's going to go 'durr hurr horrible-militant-muslim-type-person go home i r patriet'

    Attacks in Paris

Well.. back at you, agree with some, not all. This is not a refugee problem, that is a stupid stalking horse easily sold to those of a conspiratorial bent and racists, it is about idealism not individuals although some individuals need expedient removal. However to ignore it and go on as usual has pretty much been tried and does not work - it's like any infestation, need to go feral and exterminate. Cheers I suppose that leads us to the question - how do we do that? I don't know if burning Raqqa and Mosul to the ground will solve the problem, and I have a feeling you'd have to assassinate a lot of people to weaken Daesh's command structure.

    Attacks in Paris

I don't think refusing to take in refugees will help all that much. If Daesh want terrorists in, they'll just send them through legitimate channels. They've got the abilities to do that. Booting people or cracking down on them because they might be a terrorist looks good on paper, but the problem then becomes what do you define as evidence of being a terrorist? Either the measures will be weak enough for terrorists to slip through the net, or they'll be so strong that innocent people will be punished and that'll in turn isolate minorities whose help we really need right now. This is something I think the human race is going to have to weather and ultimately I think the only real thing we can do is carry on and continue to operate as we would usually do. If we go overboard and become police states, then fascism comes in and terrorists win. If we start persecuting minorities because they happen to be the same religion/general 'look' as the perpetrators, terrorists win. If we arbitrarily attack nations and piss off our allies, terrorists win. Only winning move is going to be for the world to stay as united as possible.

To be honest I've always thought of the whole appeal to religion side of terrorism to be a tool of sorts. I actually don't think bin Laden, al-Baghdadi and company believe what they're selling, they do however see that such an influential and powerful thing can be abused to brainwash and manipulate people into doing their dirty work. The suckers who actually blow themselves up and shoot people probably buy it though.

I don't agree with all of what you've said, but this quote? Hell yeah. I resent some people using 158 people's deaths as a soapbox for their demented prejudices and conspiracy theories. Or indeed pointing out harsh reality? If you have better suggestion please put one forward cos living in denial is what caused the problem in the first place. But yeah, turn on us if you like. How about we just focus on bringing the actual people who did this to justice rather than speculate on some idiotic theories that have no actual basis? I'm not turning on you, I'm asking that you listen to reason.

I've been waiting for the iOS version with baited breath. I've made more progress on my novel in a year than I had the previous five thanks to that little godsend.

I have to admit I have no real reason to have a garden. It's unnecessary effort and when I'm at home and not working the last thing I want is more stuff to do. If I want plants I'll go to the park.

    Abbot's Thatcher speech

Certainly didn't offend me. You basically hit the problem on the head. The current state of a lot of indigenous Australia is entirely a result of botched integration, and botched attempts at social engineering. It's a vicious cycle, because when people with considerable social and economic power write an entire ethnicity off because 'they're just a bunch of drunks/chromers/thieves' without looking further into why, it's already an uphill battle to break that perception. It's a shame they weren't able to challenge the British militarily like the Maori could. Maori integration seemed a lot more successful and beneficial for all involved, and I have a feeling part of that was because it just wasn't going to be as easy to subjugate them as Aboriginals so the Brits actually had to do some bargaining rather than go 'lol terra nullius sucked in'

Well it all comes back to our beliefs ,as most fully support a social government ( Labor ) their views are along the same lines. Its also prevalent that when rallies are held against what is happening, the do-gooders come out in droves and protest about it. We have a Generation of those who believe that freedom should be for all ,including those segregating in our society. We are prayed upon and the do gooders cannot see it. Just like in USA its not if , but when the USA explodes in a civil war.

    Abbot's Thatcher speech

Doesn't help when a good quarter of the continent seem to believe that they're a lower species by nature either. We've gotta focus on finding ways to empower them to be masters of their own destiny instead of treating the entire race like children- which is why people like Adam Goodes are so important right now.

    World War 3

To me it seems like China's basically testing the waters here- seeing exactly how much they can get away with and seeing who blinks first so to speak. There's no question that they're gunning for the US' crown as big man on campus, and truth be told they probably won't even have to fight the Yanks for it since they seem to be declining quite fine on their own. How much they're allowed to get up to in the South China Sea will probably determine their next moves over the next decade. That said, I have a special place in my heart for the South China Sea, so I'd appreciate it if they didn't wreck the joint or cause armageddon before Fallout 4 drops.

    Abbot's Thatcher speech

We should rent him out to the other nations as a kind of traveling freak show. The Yanks missed the chance to do that with their version, they just kind of let him retire into obscurity.

I admit to not really knowing why having them leave the room was necessary. That I think we can all agree on. I don't think keeping kids off school for an entire month is really that practical for what is effectively a small and fairly non-intrusive religious practice. Besides, I can just see the onslaught of butthurt over 'dem Muzlimz getting the whole month off cause they're treated special'. Damned if you do, damned if you don't... Eh. I didn't really say all *that* much about old people rather than mention them in passing. Like every group there's good eggs and there's assholes, and I expect that to be no different when I'm an old man about to die in a still-free democracy :D

    What's on your mind?

It's entrenched in their religion. That's not the case at all with Islam - maybe except "worldwide brotherhood that transcends national boundaries" but you could say that for any religion. Actually, the very reason these students (a sect of Shia as I understand it) are declining to sing the anthem is because they're currently in the middle of a religious event where they're not supposed to sing. Sounds like it's entrenched in their particular brand of religion to me. In fact, you could argue that the JWs are actually actively refusing to show allegiance to Australia (because that's the whole reason why they don't sing the anthem). Surely you can see there's a certain level of cognitive dissonance in getting up in arms about some Shia kids opting out of an anthem for one month out of twelve, while going 'oh that's fine, it's their religion' when JWs actively refuse to demonstrate any kind of allegiance at all. But with all due respect, these guys aren't going 'lol I refuse to sing your capitalist pig song, hail Allah'. They're going 'we're literally not allowed to sing right now but we'll happily do it for the remaining eleven months'. As for patriotism... heh, that's a double edged sword in and of itself, and I fail to see how singing because you were told to inspires genuine pride in your nation. If we're talking in a legal paradigm, I agree that the laws of the nation have to come first. But this doesn't have anything to do with laws, it's a ritual and one that the people you're complaining about are adhering to eleven months of the year. Maybe when you were a kid singing the anthem every day was a universal expectation but with all due respect, that was a long time ago and times have changed.

JWs are given that option. I wouldn't be surprised if indigenous kids were given that option too. Yup. As usual, a beat-up about nothing. 80% the people whinging don't even know the anthem even has a second fucking verse so they're not exactly in a place to have a go. Not a beat up at all. A part of Australian school assembly criteria ... or most of the ones I went to anyway, excepting in my particular experience, a prayer was always part of the mix too. Accepted practice for a religious school. The school in question was described as multi cultural. This means all sorts, yet Muslim kids were the ones not expected to show respect for the country they live in. It is a beat-up. JWs get out of singing the anthem all the time, not just one month out of twelve either. They're just not the boogeymen of the common day so nobody cares. And to be honest I fail to see how singing a song because a bunch of old people told us to is in any way showing respect for one's country. It's just doing something by rote. If you really want to judge a person's conviction in their country, see how they treat their fellow countrymen, not how they carry out what are effectively learned rituals.

They won't acknowledge the concept because it's an idiotic one.

So, basically, the yanks are happy to start WW3 because Russia (and rumours say soon China as well) are attacking ISIS? ('US-trained militants in Syria'= ISIS for those who didn't know that.) The world has become so Orwellian I can taste the Winston. US had plenty of opportunities to go in too Syria and fight the rebels ,but Obama turned his back on Syria. Now we have a ISIS regime destroying the Middle East and causing havoc in the World. I suppose Russia and China are doing what they should to protect their citizens ,just like US. Let the War begin as EU ,UK and many other areas in the World will burn too. All because Obama did nothing. Notice how he always rings Australia and tells us ( Australia ) to deploy forces. So... you'd rather he have supported a dictator who used chemical warfare on his own people? Personally I'd have rather we stayed out of the whole thing, but your logic is idiotic at best.
