Deus Ex: Human Revolution - PC version region locked?

You should be ok now. I almost wish I'd never read the news yesterday on RPS. Then again, it was only because of the customer backlash against Square/Eidos over the region locking that got it changed. At least they're honest- their statement confirms that the region locking was only reversed after they 'reviewed' their decision. Fuckers regardless.

I could not have said it better myself Mr.Twinkie. As it turns out, shopto.net still have Aug Editions available (the Collectors Ed. disappeared whilst I was browsing). So there's still hope left for those that want an imported UK retail copy. Edit: I see they've amended their statement too. http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=119397 And this: http://forums.eidosgames.com/showpost.php?...p;postcount=898

Confusion, SHE REIGNS! http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.ph...200#post1651200 So will UK retail editions now work OUTSIDE 'UK/Europe'? Apparently. Either way, I'm going to keep my el-cheapo GMG digital Aug Edition preorder, and use the money saved from having my retail edition cancelled to augment my vision with copious amounts of beer. Within 6 months. What a shame.

Actually, you can get around it by using a VPN account to trick Steam into thinking you're in the UK. Then you could add your retail UK key to your account and activate it, and then hey presto UK game is a go (as the only issue with the region lock is the activation- it's all good after that). What spiritek said. Of course there's the risk of getting your account shut down for violating their ToS etc if you get caught, though I'd imagine that would be pretty unlikely. TBH, I don't buy the language excuse for the retail region locking either. Once activated, ANY player can select any language for the game and have Steam download the required files. And digitally sourced keys aren't affected, hence the flood of users to GMG etc. I can understand the all the language files wouldn't fit on every retail disc, but region locking? Nomakathesense. Oh snap! Can you imagine how pissed the guys that lost their Collectors Edition preorders are going to be? Or Amazon and the other retailers who cancelled so many orders? What a fucking mess. I almost wish I'd not read any gaming news last night, though I would still have had my UK sourced preorder cancelled on me.

Interesting. I bought and was emailed a UK key for L4D2 in order to avoid the 'low violence' version, and it activated on my Aus account ok. Multiplayer is fine too. Perhaps L4D2 keys only play nice with the region in which you first activate it. *** On Dead Island- I'll watch that one VERY closely, as it seems like a great game. If all is well maybe a week out 2 days from release I'd love to chuck in my pre-order on GMG.

In the end I preordered an Aug Edition Steam key for $40USD from Green Man Gaming using the code 20SUM-MERSA-VINGS (20% discount). And I have $5 credit in that account now, which I may use to purchase Dead Island (also a Steam game) at $37. I'm slightly disappointed that I won't be playing the Tong mission (doesn't seem to be included with the digital version), but the $60AUD saving on the retail Aug Edition box in Australia (and the $25AUD saving over my former UK import copy) more than makes up for that. The digital Aug Edition includes all the non-game extras (soundtrack, digital art book, making of etc etc), but no exclusive weapons which will be no loss TBH. Plus I get to play it the moment it unlocks and finishes downloading. Ironically, given what I was prepared to pay for a boxed edition, I'm saving a lot of money thanks to SE's arsefuckery, and yet I still get to play their game.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution - PC version region locked?

Man, this late notice revelation seems to have cost numerous online retailers a lot of pre-order sales (no longer a top seller on Amazon.co.uk apparently, and Ozgameshop are also refunding all international orders, as are play-disc etc etc.). Regardless of the reasons (the language thing is curious, as you can select the language to be used and have steam download the language files), it's a possitively shit thing to pull a week out from release. Square enix MUST have known about this before now. I find it hard to believe that they got to the manufacturing stage before they went "wut? lol, we need to region lock this and not tell anyone." I mean, a WEEK FROM RELEASE?! Publisher PR fail.

Yeah apparently Steam can region lock titles, but only if the publisher chooses to have that 'feature' enabled. Quite why Square would opt for this isn't clear. In fact, there seems to be a lot of confusion over the issue on Eidos' forum, and no one's been able to find a retailer that is aware of the region lock. and Amazon.co.uk are now contacting non-UK customers to advise that they cancel their pre-order. Personally, I ordered online from an Aus website but that's not to say they weren't planning to send me a UK import (and I can't find the PC Aug edition on JB or EB websites now either). Also, note that the region lock apparently only applies to BOXED copies. Digital versions aren't affected. So the story goes. Edit: strikethrough and amendment
  9. Seems UK import versions won't work on non-UK Steam accounts. This sucks hard for anyone that's pre-ordered from the UK (or from a retailer that plans to sell UK imports). Well done Square Enix, a real nice stunt to pull a week out from release. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/08/17...-region-locked/ http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=119397

    Farewell index680i

I remember Brad from the days of the old atomic forum myself. Whether he was treated kindly or otherwise, he always kept his head up and got on with the business of enjoying his games and having a laugh. His outlook on life is something that will endure, and others will be better for having known him. Rest easy Brad, you were one of the nice guys.

    Alien Breed: Impact

I got the game too. Ammo is low as mentioned, though you can buy more. Haven't played co-op. Good for a blast with the sound up though, haven't gone far with it. Worth the money I paid I'd say.

    It has to stop

Seems I'm in exactly the same boat. Its getting to the point where I may have to quit my job and ignore my fiancee completely for a month or two to get through the games I haven't finished. And yet here I am, still buying the odd game at the cheapeast price I can get it for, and STILL playing my way through Deus Ex and Vampire: Bloodlines. For the hundredth time. Hi my name is SavageD, and I have an addiction. P.S. Bloody steam sales don't help either.

MSY finally updates their website... THANK GOD!

And in concert with stock levels, that's the main reason why I like the new website. The .pdf was great when they listed the actual model (eg for CPUs), but not so helpful when shopping for a specific version of a graphics card for example. Now they just need to actually list the model number for such things, and we're set.

    Physx and hdmi

As do I. Maybe I'm not playing the right games (got Batman:AA on PS3, not PC), but so far I've only gotten better smoke and waving flags (Mirror's Edge). Capital MEH at this point.

    GT5 delayed yet again.

Could be right. Thanks for the info.
