  1. Hi, looking at getting a new PSU for my upgrade and at a similar price there are these two: Corsair Gaming Series GS700 700W 14cm Fan 80+ Bronze CP-9020064-EU Corsair Builder Series CX750M 750W 12cm Fan 80+ Bronze Modular CP-9020061-EU Should I go for the Gaming Series? The builder series is modular. Is there much of a differnce when selectin series? thanks
  2. OK placed my order. My new system will be: AMD FX 8350 4.0GHz, 16MB, 125W, PIB Asus M5A97 Evo R2.0 AM3+ AMD970 ATX Corsair HX SERIES 650W POWER SUPPLY Sapphire Radeon HD7870 XT Edition with Boost, 2GB Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8 8GB (2x4GB) 1600MHz DDR3 - X2 (16GB all up) OCZ Vector SSD Dell U2412M 16:10 IPS monitor Logitech G105 keyboard Tt esports by thermaltake mouse all in the Cooler Master K380 midi case full with led fans :) EDIT>> forgot to mention the ASUS xonar sound card and the Altec Lansing 5.1 speakers ;)
  3. ok, so it is not a stupid thought to put it facing up. My old Enermax psu had 2 fans. So I guess the psu fan sucks air in?
  4. if you're getting a new CPU that comes with the heatsink and has some paste already applied to it, do you change it? Or use it as is?
  5. thanks. looks like I could not find the mentioned FSP PSU but I don't mind paying the extra for the CORSAIR HX series HX650 650W. It is gold and has 7 year warranty. So it looks like it can handle my system. Just a quick stupid question. When we mount the PSU at the bottom of the case, do we face the fan up? Or down just like we used to when it was at the top part of the case? I always been mounting them fan facing down as per normal
  6. the Corsair HX SERIES 650W POWER SUPPLY should be enough and it has a GOLD certification by the looks of it. Not sure how it will go in the future if I need to change GPU. Cause the AMD FX 8350 4gh should last me a while just ran the ASUS Wattage calculator and it recomends a minimum of 700W psu with just one gpu, no crossfire... the saphire site reccomends a 600W psu for crossfire... confused now, should I go for a 750W psu to cover everything?
  7. thanks for the great info
  8. say I want to get a new PSU. should I go for a Corsair HX SERIES 650W POWER SUPPLY which is modular, or Corsair GS SERIES 2013 EDITION 700W PS there is a price difference. The gaming series is cheaper
  9. If i'm lazy ill use the pea method. If not i will actually lap the hsf and the heatsink on the CPU apply a small amount and polish it into both. Then i will apply it to the CPU heatsink and spread it with a razorblade. lap the hsf and the heatsink on the CPU ??? what do you mean.. sorry
  10. thanks for the reply. I tried that PSU Calc. and it blows the Watts needed once you enter some percentage on the capacitor aging. MY PSU is almost 3 years old now. The AMD 8350 does need more power to run, but it has 8cores right? And better clock speeds.(I don't overclock). The other thing I don't know is how does the GPU on the CPU work? Since we do get graphics cards. Does it help the overall Graphics Processing?
  11. ok here is the system I will be building I already have the following: Sapphire Radeon HD7870 XT Edition with Boost, 2GB Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8 8GB (2x4GB) 1600MHz DDR3 - X2 (16GB all up) OCZ Vector SSD also have anothe HDD SATA, DVDRW, ASUS PCI Soundcard and 4-5 120mm case fans with leds. Now looking at getting these: CPU AMD AM3+ FX-8350 Box( FD8350FRHKBOX ) MOBO ASUS Mod SoAM3+ ASUS M5A97 R2.0 (970/ATX)( 90-MIBJK0-G0EAY0MZ ) So been through a few PSU Calculators with different results, so I've come to the thought that a 700W or greater like the Thermaltake Smart SE 730W 14cm Fan SPS-730M will be a safe bet. Taking into account the years of usage. I currently have a Corsair 520W Pro series psu. your thoughts?
  12. no. I have a 7870 with boost and thinking of getting a new CPU the AMD FX-8320 or 8350 currently have a 520w pro corsair psu
  13. looks like the builder series is the bottom line one. Gaming series is better and the pro even better
  14. thanks. that's cool. Will I need a new CPU FAN?
  15. Yes I currently have a modular asus 520. Love the modular, but just had a thought and wanted to ask why the Gaming Series is called that? What's the advantage (if any) when gaming?
  16. looking at ASUS M5A97 R2.0 will that take the phenom II X4 965 AM3?
  17. OK just got back from checking the mobo again. Checked the heatsinks as Titan suggested. They seem fine. So here is what I did. Used different RAM sticks, it loaded once, then same things again. So I tried the mobo with nothing on it. Got beeps for RAM. then tried with RAM and nothing else. Got beeps for Video Card. Then tried with RAM and Video card only, can got stuck on startup again. So I used a PCI PC Analyzer and from the codes and leds, it seems that the loading gets stuck in a loop. One of the leds does not turn on and the book of the Analyser says : "..there is a circular frame message" and the display gives a loop repeat of codes. So left it there for a while, and a minute or two later, it got out of that loop and got stuck with showing "Loading ASUS Express Gate" message on the screen. From all that I do now think that 90% it is the mobo. Will have to order a new one. Might go for a mobob with socket AM3+ that supports the AM3 CPU, in case of future upgrade, then we'll only have to get a new CPU and not a mobo again. (your thoughts? am I right?) thanks
  18. Well I have set the BIOS to default. Also tried one stick of ram at the time. Got the blue screen even using Hiren's boot dvd 15.2, while trying to load the live WinXP. Could not get to test the second stick of ram cause the pc does not boot properly once it boots once. Needs to cool down for a while before booting again. Not just a couple of minutes. More than that. I will try my own RAM on it tomorrow and see. If that does not work, then a new mobo will be ordered.
  19. did that too. both with the jumper and the battery
  20. thanks for the replies. I tried differnet mouse and keyboard. Even new ones. Also tried USB keyboard and PS/2 keyboard. No luck. Been trying to get Hiren's Boot to run with no luck. Today I'll try one ram chip at the time and see how it goes.
  21. Hi Atomicans. A have the following items and would like to upgrade my cpu and mobo. Monitor: DELL U2412M RAM: Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8 8GB (2x4GB) 1600MHz DDR3 - X2 16GB all up GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD7870 XT Edition with Boost, 2GB PSU: Corsair HX520W Sound: ASUS Xonar DG PCI 5.1 SSD: OCZ Vector SATA3 256GB At the moment all is running on this mobo: ASUS M4A77TD PRO And my current CPU is: AMD Phenom II X4 925 2.80 GHz Can you recommend a PSU and Mobo? The system runs fine but I guess that my SSD is not running at its full sata3 and a better CPU and mobo will give me a boost. I was thinking about an 8-core AMD. Like: AMD FX-8150 3.6GHZ 8-CORE BLACK EDITION You have something better recomend? Also need to decide on a mobo. I always had ASUS mobos. They always lasted for me, but now have looked into mobos as of late. AsRock came out of ASUS right? Is ASUS still the best for quality build? I want to get a better CPU since my current one might be bottle necking the system, but I don't want to go overboard and bottleneck my other parts. Any thouhgts and opinions are appreciated. thanks
  22. OK after doing more tests I think that the mobo is dead. Tried a different PSU with no luck. Took out the RAM, got beeps. It even hangs on post. Sometimes it hangs where it says "Loading Express Gate", or at the AMD logo screen. Sometimes it will start up and go past POST if its cool enough, and once you hit the reset button, it hangs again. Power on the fans and lights but no video out and no beeps. When it is cool and it starts up it does beep for Post and starts up. But the you get a blue screen at windows. Restart and you get no bees. thinking of getting a new mobo. Currently its the ASUS M4A79XTD EVO, with the AMS Phenom II X4 965 CPU. Should I get a socket AM3+ mobo and use the same CPU in case he wants to upgrade the cpu later? Is it worth it? Or go for a simple AM3 mobo???
  23. thanks for the replies. thinking of getting the following AMD FX-8350 4.0GHZ 8-CORE BOX ASUS M5A99X EVO R2.0 CORSAIR GAMING SERIES GS700 700W PSU 80+ CERTIFIED 2013 EDITION
  24. Will waiting for the Haswell release affect the AMD processors? So should I be aiming at getting a haswell?
  25. Hi atomicans. I have a friend's PC here which had been getting random shut downs and blue screens. They formatted the PC with a fresh install (win7) on a new SSD, but the problems remained the same. They changed the Video Card but that did not solve it either. So he asked me to look at it. When I looked at it, the PC started up, I got into BIOS and it froze on me. Then I tried to start it up again and only the fans would work but the PC would not start. They I removed the power cable, removed the RAM, I hold the power button for 10 seconds to remove every trace of power off the mobo. I hook everything up again the the PC started. Now I noticed that before it started, the fans kind of started slow, as if they were not getting enough power, and then kicked in. Entered windows and before long I got the blue screen. My thoughts are that the PSU is failing. It is a TAGAN BZ series 700W and about 3 years old. Should I get a new PSU? Is the slow power boost on startup an indication that the PSU is failing? thanks :)
