Optimizing a PC for an SSD

For step 5 I use the following method http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/12419...stallation.html Is quick and relatively painless than the manual methods. advantage of this is that it will move user folders and future users will be created on the specified drive but also program data will be also moved.

The SilverStone LC17B is a great HTPC case that can hold ATX boards and full size GPU cards and plenty of room inside. With mine I did put a fan controller on the rear fans as they can be noisy. http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=82&area=en

A & B are possibly in landfill somewhere, Thanks, labels were done on gloss photo paper then I used thin double sided tape. I got so involved with playing with the machine I didn't realize it was 5am. Silly me trusting the Asus software temps installed HWmon got the real temps, ran it up tp 4.4 GHz 1.26v after 30 mins prime temps were 63 deg c but time to call it a night.

Finally pulled my finger out and installed psome parts I had sitting around replaced the following Coolermaster 212+ with Noctua NH-U12P SE2 HIS 6870 with Gigabyte 6870 OC Added Bitfenix Sleeved cables Sleeved the rear fan and started the case connectors Added labels for the drives I frequently connect them up to my other rigs and it was becoming annoying constantly pulling the wrong drive. whats in it 2600k Noctua NH-U12P SE2 Antec Formula 7 Asus Z68 Deluxe Corsair Veng CL8's (Ripjaw 2133 CL9's in RMA atm) 2x Gigabyte 6870 OC 1 GB 120Gb Corsiar Force 3 1TB Samsung F3 2TB Seagate Barracuda 1TB WD Green 2 TB WD Green XFX 750w Black Edition Liteon DVD burner LG Blueray multi drive Coolermaster HAF X NZXT Blue LED light cable Will be testing OC performance in the next few days and this is a new CPU and MOBO fresh from RMA Primed at stock with the new HSF 28 deg idle, 52 on prime for 2 hrs.
  6. TBH its a waste of money, a $150 board does exactly the same thing as a $300 board After my experience with the Asrock Extreme 4 recently, I could say nothing is further from the truth at this point of time. My Z77 Extreme 4 (bios flashed to 1.7) was a crash riddled fest of endless issues even after uninstalling Vritu MVP. Also performance was significantly below the previous P67 Evo in 3D mark when i could get it to complete the damn test, this all occurred on a new 2600k not overclocked. Popped in the Asus Z68 deluxe, same hardware and its rock solid 24/7 stable again. There is just something wrong with the current Asrock boards and till it's fixed I would just avoid it. probably just a bad board, you get that from any company believe it or not. it is quite possible that it is a lemon butI got plenty of hits when I was chasing my errors. Most seem to be around Virtu MVP and USB 3.0. Also it could not cope with the 2133 MHz ram I had to wind that back to 1600 to get that part stable. The USB 3.0 is a killer as I have quite a few external USB 3.0 devices. Seems there has been quite a few BIOS updates/fixes since I flashed 1.7, i'll try the new one out and see if that helps with stability. but atm it all boxed up and in the cupboard, I'll have to get a new CPU which is in the plans. However I still stand by my statement and the 7 bios updates since launch in March are indications of many issues needing their intervention. Simply put you don't get this with the other major board manufacturers. So to me given the choice of a extreme 4 or say a Asus Z77 pro the pro will win, even if it costs $70 more.

The gripping Nobody813 v Asus saga continues

In total agreement with this. last month i RMA'ed my Asus P8P67 EVO, yesterday I received back a P8Z68 Pro which was a refurbished unit and the box had looked like it had gone through hell. This was obviously unacceptable both on the condition and the lower speced board, I resolved it with the retailer today who gave me a full refund on the price I paid on the EVO 12 moths ago and i grabbed a Z 68 deluxe which was cheaper than the refunded EVO. With that gesture the retailer has guaranteed I will always come back.
  11. I just had my motherboard and CPU die. When the XFX 750 Black editions system protection kicked in I actually thought the PSU had died. So I swapped it out for my Corsair HX 650 This lead to a puff of smoke being emitted from my motherboard when I hit the power. both PSU have the same system protection (both Seasonic based PSU's). this all happened while the machine was running at stock speeds and voltage. So i'll give a + to the XFX 750 Black edition and a - the the Corsair HX650 Rather pissed at the Corsair PSU as it fried a very nice CPU 4.4 at 1.22v

  15. CPU depends on what your doing with the PC. If your just gaming and doing simple web stuff the 2500k is fine. now if your doing other stuff (Photoshop, video editing etc) go the 2600k. With that said the 3770k is not far off.

I agree about the G19 massively overpriced for what it is, look at the Corsair K60 or K90, if you want back lighted keys then the K90 is the go also the macro keys are damn handy just in normal PC usage. Currently I have a G110 and use thse keys for cut, copy, paste etc any multiple kestroke operating can be placed in those. Regarding the mouse you do need to try them out see how they feel. I would recommend avoiding wireless/Bluetooth mice they are a pain. from my experience you need to place the receiver in the front USB ports, My MX1000 bluetooth will not respond properly if I place the blue tooth receiver in the rear USB ports. It is also prone to interference from other bluetooth devices. For gaming you just cannot beat a corded mouse.

Everything MisterK said is right. What you have up there is massive overkill, I'm not sure why you are set on a xfire setup when it isn't needed. Keeping with the Intel Asus ROG based system, I did move to ASUS GPU's as then the GPU's tie in with the ASUS motherboard software Intel CORE i7 2600K - $308 Asus MAXIMUS-IV-EXTREME-Z Z68 - $399 G.Skill DDR3-2133 8GB Dual Channel [RipjawsX] F3-17000CL9D-8GBXM - $87 ASUS ATI EAH7970 PCI-E 3.0, 3GB 384-bit GDDR5, 925/5500MHz - $637 CoolerMaster RR-212E-20PK-R1 Hyper 212 EVO - $39 Crucial 256GB M4 CT256M4SSD2 SATA 6GB/s Solid State Drive - $364 Hitachi 3TB Deskstar 7K3000 7200rpm - $260 Corsair 850W AX-850 ATX Power Supply - $245 Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64bit OEM - $125 Samsung 27.0" S27A350H Widescreen LED Monitor - $343 NZXT PHANTOM WHITE FULL TOWER - $179 Liteon Dual Layer Burner Black SATA - $27 Total $3013 That is not including mouse and keyboard which are personal preference things. PS. 7970's are being sold regularly on OCAU as people are dumping them for 680's so you can certainly save some dollars there they are fetching $450-500 each atm PSS. all prices are from ARC computers.

  21. yes it does I have checked the ASUS site and it is in the supported CPU list http://www.asus.com.au/Motherboards/AMD_AM...V_Formula/#CPUS The 955 is also in the supported list, so it not starting seems to indicate there maybe issues with that motherboard. your ASUS M4A79T Deluxe will support the 1100T with the 3303 and later bios.

Looking to buy a new micro-ATX mobo

yeah that is a hard one the only one that pops to mind is the Asus Rampage 3 Gene http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Soc...mpage_III_GENE/ But x58 boards are becoming hard to get it appears pccg has stopped stocking any x58 boards. Did some digging Mwave have 2 MSI X58M's listed on thier ebay page, this product doesn't appear on thier regular site listed at $154 but shipping will set you back as the board is in the US http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MSI-X58M-LGA-13...d-/380384416647 The only other stocks i could find of this board were at It supply http://www.itsupply.com.au/products/x58m-l...ducts_id/280376 listed at 231 Otherwise you may need to look at 2nd hand as it seems they are all out of production. Hope this helps
