    You smoked what?!?!?

I did have a friend who tried to smoke tomato leaves once after I told him they were in the same family as marijuana but I've never seen anyone smoke a ham :D

I wasn't referring to you. You appear to be at least involving me in conversation rather than just general insults. I recognise this is very difficult to prove. I used to help out at the intro nights (for my "Alpha Camps" - it wasn't like band camp man and no flutes were involved - in fact this healing stuff is just a small component, most people just wanted to stop smoking or learn to set goals - there's a lot to the course I haven't mentioned) and the room was full of skeptics. A couple of clowns at one wanted me to perform for them and gave me their car keys to hold to work out what car they had. I said it was a green or blue non Australian car (no visuals remember) - turns out it was a green Datsun. Doesn't prove crap I know - just another close call experience I can bend to my will :) But that is the sort of response you expect and get when mind power stuff gets trotted out. The Russians were doing experiments with similar things where they tried to affect a remote subject using mind power and they had to shut it down because the subject was getting really sick (according to 2 TV programs I've seen on the subject - yes most of my "research" comes from things I can't just google, Rob, but, believe it or not, once upon a time people used to just talk about shit they'd read or they read stuff themselves!!). Despite all the Randis who find it easier to just stomp on things because they look loopy and can't be proven to work as well as western medicines (jokes) I'll keep my open mind and keep looking for possibilities. Would be funny if the FAQ had to be modified to include "You shall not use mind control to affect the health and well being of other forum participants" :p

For the case in point my "patient" felt better from the hour I performed the technique to the end of the pregnancy. She had 2 previous pregnancies and had been sick from around the third month all the way through. Its not a double blind study of 1000 people but there was enough in that one example for me to take notice. I didn't charge money for it and never even met the person - they were a friend of my sisters. ...and then there's an aspie like me. Minimal emotions, logical thinking, no reason to make up fantasies as they are lost on me. There were people who failed in the healing part of the course, people who had trouble visualising just like me. I'm an auditory person not a visual person and it takes time to learn the auditory cues and much longer for a kinasthetic person to learn touch and feel cues. The bloody visuals - around 70% of the population - pretty much nailed it. Do I have a double blind study for you - nope. Statistics - nope. But as I was running the background audio I got to sit and observe everyone rather than being stuck with one or two couples and there were too many coincidences for me to ignore. I know. But to just shut someone down or call them delusional because what they are saying doesn't seem logical or possible is no more correct. I'm not asking for money or fame. I'm just sharing my experiences in a relevant forum (thread). I'm aware few here give a flying fuck about me and some treat me with utter contempt so I have no expectation of that changing or can be bothered trying. I would like to have an open and informative discussion about it though...because it's at least intriguing (perhaps only to me!?).

I believe this is the study I was told about. Its been around 15 years since I worked on the course which would explain my failure to recall it exactly. Either that or I'm thinking of "a different one with similar results". I'm keen to see what your research turns up. With all this it pays to be skeptical. Being a closed minded skeptic pretty much shuts off any opportunity whatsoever. As an aspie I have to be skeptical and untrusting of everything and everyone or I'll end up with an underwater waterfront property. It helps to be like that as my initial reaction is negative but I still like to keep an open mind.

I've seen too many coincidences. On top of that the people doing the healing diagnose the people whose details they have received (which is only name and location) and too many students have discovered medical conditions which the target and their doctor have not even know about. We aren't talking about 1000 people doing this and 5 getting it right. This is more like 70% accuracy. I'm as skeptical as Randi about everything (and jaded and cynical in case you hadn't noticed) but the evidence I've witnessed supports "something" working here. Its been supported in other ways too - three similar basketball teams were used in an experiment where one was a control and followed an average training regime, the 2nd trained with extra technology and specialists and the third did no physical training at all but were taught to relax and imagine they were doing the training, improving and increasing their skills and accuracy. The 1st team improved a little and the 2nd and 3rd teams improved markedly and equally well. Its not magic - it makes logical sense when you think about what humans can do when they put their minds to it. It also explains superhuman strength where people have lifted cars and other things to save other people without limiting themselves with too much conscious thought. I am offended by the term delusional - I have put far more thought and research into this than some passing whimsy.

True that! The wires knock together in the wind and bits of molten metal drop to the ground. Great fire starters.

Explain my experiences then! There's no placebo effect if the other person doesn't even know about it. I don't think its divine healing either - I just believe the mind is powerful enough to do some freaky stuff when you let it.

Nah...that would be the Wrath of God then :) Wow...dickhead much!? I've seen fires started by lawn mowers, cars, trucks with dud exhausts, angle grinders and welders. Yeah as a firey you think they're a bit daft starting it in the first place and not having a bucket of water next to them but I'd NEVER compare them to an arsonist. Arsonists are a special level of evil. Spontaneous combustion. Had a fire the other day which was out and we were called back to the market we were protecting and the damn garden was on fire. There were piles of grass clippings dumped on it and there was no connection to the original fire. When we turned a couple of unburnt clumps over the heat that came out was incredible. The collective governments are scared of winged water bombers due to their technical ignorance. They'd rather spend millions on Ericksons which score well in the media but in reality are short ranged useless dinosaurs that cost the GDP of a small country to relocate. Stupid in coastal and lake areas - which would cover 90% of the fire prone areas. Firey tips for home owners: Get a home survival meter from CSIRO Make sure there are no entry points for embers - seal eaves and ventilation points The most likely way to lose a house is ember attack. The front lasts around 2 minutes but the embers can last up to 7 hours. The reason you fill bathtubs full of water is to put out the small spot fires which start in grass or gardens or rubbish which then grow and take the house. So the house is lost from a minor fire not the front itself. That's what happened in Como/Janalli. Fight the fire wearing long pants and a long sleeved shirt both made of cotton and boots. The radiant heat will stop you a lot earlier if you are wearing shorts as chrisg pointed out!

OK I'll give you the smallpox and polio vaccines - they did actually eradicate their targets. Show me an antidepressant which cures depression - there are none. Show me a diabetic treatment that cures diabetes - there are none. But there are many of each which are used to "treat" people yet they will never actually "treat" them at all and end up becoming less and less effective until the patient has to add other drugs or change to stronger ones. You can put your head in the sand as much as you like but unless you're an ostrich its a bad look :) Vitamins aren't drugs and Vit.C isn't really a manufactured cure for scurvy. The first fleet ate citrus fruit to cure it - they didn't pop pills. I agreed that anti-biotics were a cure but you missed the caveat - that they destroyed all bacteria, including the ones you need for your digestion to work properly. They are also incorrectly prescribed for viruses and overprescribed which is why we have resistant strains of bugs which could end up killing us when they become resistant to all antibiotics. At the risk of attracting more hate and venom I've healed people! A course I helped run, the Alpha Course (not the current Church version - this was non religious) taught people to do it. Can't heal myself to save my life but I was really good with others - especially if they didn't know about it. Example: my sister asked me to help a friend of hers who suffered from chronic morning sickness when pregnant. So I performed the technique (all imagination based) and she felt better immediately. My sister didn't tell her I'd done it until the end of the pregnancy but she got better within one hour of performing the technique. The funniest example when running the course was some smart arse who wanted to heal a cat and a dead person. So he was directed to a lovely Irish girl who was on logistics so he didn't freak out a student. She performed the technique on the dead person and was saying "there's a strange glow around him, I can't touch him, he wont respond to me, what the fooks going on, he's almost see through". When she did the cat we all almost wet ourselves (she has a lovely Irish accent and a sailors mouth) by saying "what the fook is this, she's all fooked up, she's wearing a strange fur coat, she's got a fooking tail oh she's a fooking cat!!". Now keep in mind that all the person who is performing the technique is given is the name, age and suburb of the patient and you might see why I don't think all of Randi's targets are total bullshit! I do think homeopathy is 0% medicine and 100% healing power of the mind however. That being the case there isn't a 0% chance of it working and there's no freaking way you can prove that the way Randi has asked for it to be proven so I completely support Director's view on it. Just that I believe in the power of the human mind and he believes in prayer and God. They don't have to be mutually exclusive!!

Where do you draw the line?

Not really weird. Its not the people concerned that are important - its the lawyer vs the prosecutor. I've seen a few prosecutors who just front up and go through the motions like they are bored with the job and its as much their fault the case is lost as it is the system's fault for allowing some flamboyant slut to pervert justice. In this case I keep coming back to the video - I don't need to know any more than what I see on the video. A cowardly bogan attacks a police officer from behind whilst he is doing his duty and cripples him for life. The bogan isn't protecting himself. He's not even protecting his father as his father had the upper hand and the taser misfired and failed to subdue him. Anyone who thinks this is justified is setting a very dangerous precedent as the police are already reaching the point where they'll just stand back and preserve their own safety - knowing they wont receive any protection in the "justice" system.

True! The relevance of my comment goes to Randi's (now I'm being immature...he he he) comment about homeopathy being bad because its not rigorously tested like western medicines. I'd consider the fact they are rigorously tested and still don't provide a cure (in most cases) and have hideous side effects including death (in some cases) as being worse than selling magic water. There's another level of con in there! Very funny - find me something else clever bugger! I'm happy to wait until the first super bug is resistant to every antibiotic we have. There are already a couple which can only be killed off by a single last line mega antibiotic so it wont be long.

Where do you draw the line?

When you've watched your own father being destroyed in court by a soul-less bank and a blood sucking leech lawyer who stated openly that my Dad should win the case but wouldn't because the bank could afford better lawyers then you pretty well lose faith in the amusingly named "justice system". Poor old thing - he trotted out that heart condition bullshit in court too. He also lied about not hitting the police officer and being affected by the tasering but you can clearly see him get three punches in and a headlock and the taser missed so it didn't electrocute him at all. These turds also threatened to kill the video maker. Just exactly what do you have to do to be worthy of gaol time in this bloody country!?
