Hi guys, I've always been a fan of this forum, it's been over a decade since I last made a post. It's great to be back. I'm writing with the hope I can get some solid advice on upgrading my PC of a few years back to give me another few years. Here are my current specifications (About 3 year old PC): CPU: Intel Pentium ® CPU G3258 @ 3.2GHZ Ram: 8gb ram Video card: Geforce GTX 560 Ti Motherboard: Asus Z97-K SSD: Plextor PX-128M6S (120gb) HDD: WD Black 2tb I would like to avoid having to buy a brand new motherboard. Therefore priority would be a CPU (compatible with this mobo) and a GPU to achieve smooth 4k gaming performance on games such as Witcher 3, GTAV, Star Craft 2 and Destiny 2. My budget is flexible, but let's say $1000-1200 AUD. To save on budget and time, I want to avoid changing the case and mobo. Thanks and really appreciate the advice. Cheers, Waj
I've viewed these forums intermittently over many years, thanks to all the people that continue to maintain the "Parts Guide" sticky, it's great. I'm building a new computer and I've based my build off the builds found in the "Parts Guide". Would you guys mind having a look over it and making any suggestions/corrections? My budget is flexible but somewhere between $1500 - $2000 AUD. I'm definitely interested in over-clocking (although I've never done it before) and hopefully I'll be gaming at 2560 x 1440 resolution. CPU Intel® Core™ i5 4690K $390 MB Asus TUF GRYPHON Z97 $188 RAM Kingston Hyper X Fury 8GB (2x4GB) $99 GPU Gigabyte WindForce 4G GTX 980 $705 OR Gainward GeForce GTX 980 Phantom 4GB $709 OR Galax GeForce GTX 980 V2 4GB $649 SSD/HDD --Reclaimed from previous build-- PSU Corsair RM650 650Watt $175 CASE Nanoxia Deep Silence 1 $129 CPU_COOL Corsair Hydro Series H100i CPU Cooler $159 TOTAL ~$1845 + shipping 1. Is the 650W PSU enough, should I go for the 750W instead? 2. Does anyone have any thoughts on the Z97 motherboards, is there any preference towards a particular model? 3. The GPUs are about the cheapest GTX 980s I could find. Am I better off trying to get the best clock for buck (Gainward) or getting the cheapest card and overclocking myself (Galax)? When I'm done I'll post some build pictures, although I can't promise anything flashy.
