So my Oculus Rift arrived with Touch controllers and my current PC isn't exactly a power house, I don't want to spend $$$ on it because I've spent so much money on other tech it's hard to keep justifying it to the wife. Current system: Core i5-750 OC 50% at 4Ghz (That is Haswell generation there) ASUS P7P55d-E Pro (16 lanes of PCIe 2.0, USB 3.0 and crappy SATA 3 implementation that runs at SATA 2 speeds) 8GB RAM (2 x 4GB @ 1600) 512GB SSD (Thanks to Atomic / PC Authority) Corsair 500W PSU Crossfire 2 x 7950's (so many problems with Crossfire) So I don't want to spend too much to get my Oculus Rift to work with games like Elite: Dangerous, so I was thinking of not upgrading the motherboard and CPU, which I know will hamper any new GPU I purchase but it would cost a lot and I don't think the price to performance is worth it, agree or disagree? I want an AMD GPU because I like to support the underdogs. So upgrade existing system to: 16GB RAM (4 x 4GB @ 1600) AMD VEGA 56 8GB or AMD RX 580 8GB Would that allow me to play Oculus Rift well enough to enjoy it and not to puke? Considering the CPU would limit the GPU, I was thinking of undervolting and underclocking the GPU a touch to dramatically reduce power consumption and heat generation, without affecting fps (due to CPU limitation). However VEGA architecture is supposed to offer improvements in optical recognition, which is something I am trying to play with in the past few months and failing miserably at.
