XP VERY slow to boot up.

Recommended Posts

Bah,

Been working on a P4 machine today (intel d915gav mobo, 2gb ram , x1300 GPU) anyways, all I've done so far is put on XP, mobo/graphics drivers and done a windows update. The damn thing takes about 15 minutes to boot up, literally.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Cheers, I'll check it out and get back to you. ;)

hmm, looks like a mobo driver issue, I did another format/install and it was rebooting fine till after it loaded the on board audio drivers from the original CD. hmmm

OK definitely something to do with the audio drivers, machine seems to shutdown/reboot fine until the audio drivers are loaded and then it goes REAL slow again. It has the realtek ALC860 audio chip on board.

*long sigh*

You assume correctly sir. Does the same thing.

I've even tried installing XP without SP2, makes no diff.

Next thing is to do a CMOS reset and if that fails I'll disable the onboard audio and whack in a soundblaster...... :(

Nup.

OK, I've disabled onboard audio in BIOS, REINSTALLED XPSP2 (again) with a soundblaster in it and so far so good. I'll start loading proggys this arvo and see what happens.

Cheers
