Cooler Master V10

Recommended Posts

Does anyone own or have interest in one of these? Reviews range from mediocre to incredible. Here's one showing the V10 cooler by 9 degrees than the TRUE. http://www.xcpus.com/GetDoc.aspx?doc=118&page=4

To me such results are incredibly suss, but without any other comparisons of the two coolers, there's nothing else to base it on. Only one fan was used on the TRUE but 9 degrees is still hard to believe.

Also, most reviews show that its TEC only really kicks in at extremely high temperatures. Considering this, would the V10 or TRUE be better on a relatively high clock- say an e8600 at 5ghz?

I've never known a cooler to have so much ambiguity about it.

only look at results from decent websites, xcpus is not one of them.

having owned an e8600 I can tell you now the odds of getting 5ghz without sub zero cooling is like saying pigs will fly tomorrow, maybe if you have an incredibly rare one that boots at 5ghz with high Vcore you might be able to do it with watercooling but I seriously doubt it.

Yeah, didn't think that site was too reliable. Thanks. What do you think about 4.5ghz though? How hot does it get at that?

sucks that it costs $200 tho

Mhmm. There'll always be gear for the people with the money.

Yea thats easily achievable on air, I had mine at 4.5ghz@ 1.4v for a while then let it run 4ghz@stock volts until i got rid of it.

Oh, that's good to hear. Can I ask what heatsink and fans you used? If it's the TRUE, which version?

Unless your mobo is horizontally mounted, like in an Antec Skeleton or DD Torture Rack, I'd avoid it!

Its a heavy heavy of heaviness. My TRUE used to sag enough that I needed wire to tie it to the top of the case, GL with that 3kg beast! I found the Zalman 9700 just as good as a TRUE and had a WAAAY better mounting system - was much, much louder though!

so what sites are reliable

The only site I take 100% of what they say as the truth is anandtech I also like HardwareCanucks for their usually unbiased views on things.

i've had one for almost a month now, it's easily mountable vertically without hurting your mobo, but the thing is for 200 u only gain like a few degrees less than TRUE, i hardly think it's worth it =P

Really? I would've thought Bit-Tech were fairly reliable. For some reason I've always had a soft spot for Bjorn3D and Guru3D though. Totally agree with HardwareCanucks though.

Yeah, I guess 200 is a rip, but when you have the money and your ultimatum is 'Clock to x or bust' then it's worth it. For five degress I might, but... bleh. Maybe I'll just get the TRUE because it's shiny.

if you want somethign other than the true the prolimatech megahalems migth be an option http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_p...oducts_id=11125 fairly new company but going on this review http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MT...GhlbnRodXNpYXN0 then its as good if not slightly better than the true

I would still rather a TRUE and the results show the TRUE is still a tad better by the smallest of margins and by large margins when comparing the prolimatech fans to other ones. Edited by nesquick

err prolimatech (like the TRUE) doesn't come with fans. I susspect you read that review incorrectly.

using the same fan on both reults in the prolimatech being 1 degree cooler at stock speeds and being within ~0.2 degrees overclocked.

No its there

Pg 3 http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MT...W50aHVzaWFzdA==

Thermalright included their line of FDB Silent Fans and they are listed below as 1000 RPM, 1300 RPM, 2000 RPM and 2x2000 RPM (Dual fans in push-pull configuration). Prolimatech included two fans of their own which include their 1200 RPM and 1600 RPM fans. They are listed below in the same manner.

Even if it gets beaten at stock settings when overclocked the TRUE always deals with more heat better than any other cooler on the market, just stick to whats tried and proven and not an obvious copy and paste of a classic design.
