Creative MegaWorks THX 5.1 550

Recommended Posts

They can e got from here for $479.00 , was wondering if any one here has them or has heard them action.

They aren't recent, the reviews I have read are last gen like the speakers are, so when the reviews say that that have a good dynamic range and clean sound, I wonder if that is relative to what was around then and that they wont compare well to something newer ?

Man, save a few more pennies and go these : http://www.megaware.com.au/index.php?main_...28143647f8d70fd

I have had them for about 3 years now - and they sound awesome, especially for the size of them. The amp died on me a little while back, now I drive them with a Onkyo amp and seperate sub but the speakers still sound terrific. Good enough to run a house party on - plus the gigaworks s750's have dual drivers - a midrange and a titanium tweeter.

Cant fault them to be honest, long life, great sound and only a little bit extra.

They can turn 5.1 input into 7.1 output, that's a plus my USB sound card is 5.1 , Im going to read some reviews but I think this set up is the kind of thing I'm looking for , Thank you for the link and suggestion Lazzarus2nd {:)

I just got some z5500d's on Friday and OH MY GOD!!!. They are good speakers.. running through my media center/games machine using a digital cable they are just unreal. High recommend them! They look much better then the Creative ones posted as well.

Can be picked up for around the $500 dollar mark. I got mine from Harvey Norman 2 for 1 on Logitech accessories on Friday, so I got 2 sets of z5500d's :)

I've owned both Gigaworks S750 and Logitech z5500 (2 of them at once in one system actually :D) ... GET LOGITECH!!! Much more reliable and a far better product if you ask me...!!!

I know this isn't the same model Gigaworks as you're talking about but surely the s750 are better. Just check reviews on Creative sound systems... shit... fail... blown amps and drop channels everywhere.

Go creative for sound cards not speakers in my opinion...

Just my 2 cents :)

Thats fairly subjective, but nonetheless, I prefer the subtle look of the creatives, horses for courses i guess. i particuary like the stand they come on and have removed the front covers to give it that "industrial" look.

I have also owned the predecessors to the z5500d's, the logitech Z-680's. I found them lacking of punch and clarity, also when I turned the volume down on them, I could hear an annoying high pitched whine. It was just at the wrong pitch too - complimented the sound of my fans woefully. The more I listened to it the more I heard it. I took them back after 6 months and got the Creative Gigaworks.

and my personal favourite : http://forums.logitech.com/logitech/board/...thread.id=18208

) Satellites:

While the satellites do a great job overall, the only consistent critcism with the speakers from professional reviewers is a lack of mid-range.

* I would like to see the L and R front speakers go to a 2-way design, with a larger woofer (maybe 5.25" or 6.5":smileywink: and a seperate tweeter. The other satellites could stay pretty much the same.

* Allow for expansion to a 6 or 7 speaker system. I don't recomend offering the successor in only a 7.1 variety, since many people will not want to pay the extra cost, or do not have the space to accomodate so many speakers, but it would be nice to be able to expand the system. Provide additional speaker outputs and sell satellites sperately for people who would like to have a 6.1 or 7.1 system.

Oh yeh - Logitech are waaaay more reliable and a far better product! Dont foget either that the Logitech's are single driven (one way) speakers. If you're not sure what that means, then stop now and do a little homework.

Im not pointing this out to be a shit-head, all im saying is that both companies have porducts that people aren't happy with. To say Creative speakers are any more or less reliable than Logitech's is wrong, all have little problems now and then - thats what warranties are for. Show me one company that has never released a failed product (electronics ok!! :D ) and I'll post a picture of me eating my hat.

Lazzarus2nd, DIGITAL DECODER!

You can keep your " titanium tweeter" and I'll use my single digital cable for full DTS 96/24 along with the sub I can fit my arm in!! :D

I ended up opening the sub enclosure of the Altec Lansing 5051 , and finding that the port tube had fallen off the flange port opening so I glued it back in place with fast liquid nails , seems to be still holding , it has improved the bass to the point where I can stand listening to them but the upper bass and lower mid area is a bit hollow.

I will wait a bit longer and see what is around, plus the partner is worried about the world wide moneymess so its hard to justify spending at the moment when as far as she can tell the Altecs are working fine. {:)
