what was the kids TV show with the salamanders?

Recommended Posts

OK just throwing it out there, about 15 years ago there was a kids show on TV of an afternoon and there were salamanders involved. I think they were metal statues that the kids had to track down but I cant remember and fucking details at all.

Also how cool/scary were "the tripods". Was that the same show or different?

It was a life action, not animated series and they(the kids) were going around trying to find these hand sized salamander statuettes than look like metal.

At least that is what my memory is telling me.

Oh and thanks for trying

Thats as close as Wikipedia could get me for now.

Shame it was not the one but I have just learnt a little bit more about anime and a lot more about salamanders.

Based on random trippy childhood memories, with possibly no relation whatsoever to the question, I'm going to say H.R. Puff'n'Stuff.

I know this is an old thread, but it was bugging me too that I couldn't remember what show this was, that my searching for it brought me to your thread.

So as I had nothing better to do this evening, I've just spent a good hour going through lists of old TV shows, and was about to give up, but then found it!

It's "Professor Poopsnagle's Steam Zeppelin".

To quote from Wikipedia "The golden salamanders had been buried long ago to indicate where each mineral could be found. After the first one was found, the cryptogram on it would lead the children and the doctor to the next one. What they had to do in each case was to decipher the cryptogram on each salamander."

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Professor_Poopsnagle's_Steam_Zeppelin

Now just to find somewhere that streams the episodes!

Wow, man - just finding this thread let alone the series is a work of dedication!

I wonder if any of the original posters will ever see it?

The thread that that wouldn't die, on the forum that wouldn't die, answers the question that couldn't be answered, by someone out on the intartubes, who 10 years and 2 days later signs up and posts the answer.

If this doesn't prove the feasibility of " Infinite Improbability Drive" nothing will.

?Is it !Atomic! .. !Yes Sir! .. It's very Atomic!

.................................................................

By the way putting Professor Poopsnagle's Steam Zeppelin into Google produces strange edcuation based results... methinks there is a problem with Google's brownian motion generator.

A fresh cup of tea might sort it.

Anways Hello and welcome to the Atomic Forums Kel 🙂

*** I NEED HELP! ***

okay, so ive got one of my own thats been bothering me for quite a while......

my memory is really sketchy, and i mostly remember it because the theme song was annoyingly catchy.

- the main character was old and white haired and vaguely mad scientist looking, and he lived in a vaguely steampunk looking kiosk type building in the forest

- he would look through a telescope a lot, and there was a seagull or something...and did he deliver the mail???  and was there a flying bicycle???

- 1980s episodic animated short, maybe only 5 minutes long?

- ABC TV, over many years in either mornings or afternoons??

- british maybe

That right there rules me out.  Only animated anything I was watching in the 80s were things like The Wall's marching hammers and the odd music video.

Sounds to me a lot like "E.T and Stormboy Phone Back To The Future Home."

Starring Lee Lin Chin and John Cleese.

I think Tom Selleck played a cameo role.

woohoo! at long last, i finally find it: Doctor Snuggles  ...doctor fucking snuggles?  never wouldve remembered that!

- so the 'seagull' was an ambiguous dove/seagull/pelican that flies around with a satchel bag around its neck and delivers the mail

- the 'flying bicycle' was actually his pogo stick which is also an umbrella and a talking duck, obviously, WTF haha

- the 'steampunk kiosk' was his wooden rocket ship, and he had a robot assistant he'd MacGuyvered up out of old junk

- no John Cleese, but voiced by Peter Ustinov :)

on my travels, i came across this interesting read 6 terrifying children's cartoons from around the world

I was still thinking this when I clicked the link, and until about halfway down the page, until some of those characters started to ring a bell... Googled up an episode on YouTube, and fuck me, that tickled some pretty dim memories!

o.O  Some of those are... Well, I'm surprised to see them as kids' books.  I mean, a lot of "fairy tales" are pretty damned gruesome when you look at them (Hansel & Gretel anyone?), but accidental cannibalism and soul-trapping dolls are a step above.

This thread is pure gold 😄 Although reading some of the descriptions, those of us who grew up in the 80's stand a good chance at being subtly warped for life, given some of the strange shit we watched as kids. I am ok with that.

LOL - right wing? You are so far from the truth you're in another galaxy.

However, once anyone pigeon holes someone into a 'left' or 'right' category, you've lost all credibility with me.
The world is not black and white, champ.
Perhaps to you it is, but it's all grey to me.

Idiot.
