Recommended Posts

I got 4 of the WD green ones, and haven't had an issue with them.

The WD Green Power drives are quieter slower and more power efficient

The Samsung F1s are faster.

if you want higher quality look at wd black 1tb it has a 5 year warranty and should be the fastest of the lot to it dose cost a little more though at ~$180 vs ~$150

I would go for the Samsung 1TB SATA II 7200RPM 32M drive. I have several Samsung drives and I use them for my clients so I am happy with their preformance and have not had to return one yet. Just be aware that no matter what drive you get any drive can fail. So if you don't mind spending a bit more, and the 5 year warranty gives you a warm fuzzy feeling, then go for the WD. :)

Technically the faster a drive spins the shorter a lifespan it has. The greenpower should last longer in theory but in practice that is a person to person variance. I have had drives that are supposed to be rock solid fail in weeks and dodgy drive models last years. The greenpower are better for low cost servers while if you want to get some more performance in your machine the Samsung would be a better choice.
